  • The Mugel is located at the northern end of the Gleinalpe or Hochalpe. In the east it is only separated from the slightly higher Roßeck (1664 m) by a flat saddle. To the west and north, the Mugel slopes down in two elongated ridges to the town of Leoben and the market town of Niklasdorf, respectively. The ditch between these ridges is called the Brandgraben. From the Niklasdorfgraben further east, a non-public road leads to the transmission system and on to the Mugel refuge. The south side of the Mugel is steeper, here the mountain drops directly and largely without a path into the Kleiner Gößgraben .
The Mugel summit cross was designed by the Niklasdorf artist Georg Brandner .
