Wow, lost me at Internet superstar or whatever ego much? It’s about the time that I turned off your video if your intro wasn’t boring and annoying enough.
Lesser minds are often uncomfortable in the presence of greatness. We can always tell when its a "lesser mind" becuase they are so stupid they hang around and leave a comment complaining, instead of just immediatly going away and watching something else, like normal people do.
@@TheNotaRubicon Has anyone ever diagnosed you with something called an "autism spectrum disorder"?
@@suspiciouswatermelon7639 You might be surprised that people that fall in the autistic spectrum are much more intelligent than you are.
@@TheNotaRubicon very well-said! I need to use something like this on my "lesser mind" haters, haha
You actually didn't get the straight man humor? How autistic do you have to be?
As a sort of Ham operator I just want to say I really appreciate all your videos as I'm learning and researching to get into GMRS. When I say "sort of" HAM I mean I went through all the testing and proper book work to get licensed over 20 years ago, but never got into it as Ham nerd. My buddy and I, many years ago just wanted a way communicate out in the woods. I've been using 2 meter Ham ever since for that purpose, but the HAM world has just gotten way too complicated and just stupid technical and affordable (but also quality) radios like Yeasus are dropping off the face of earth. I can see now that GMRS is really the way to go. Ham is all but dead. So I'm excited to get into this and buy some radios. You make the best videos ever and I REALLY enjoy your humorous and extremely clear style of presentation. Well DONE!

Preach it!! :)
LOVE the background image on the wall!
Almost self incriminating background image in Commie CA! But love it as well!
Disregard, I missed the “wall” part. thought you were talking about the “Come and take it” background image!
Yavol it is the Commander of lies and god she can lie !🤣

Appreciate the detailed coverage of the MXT575!
I just bought an MXT500 and was concerned I jumped the gun on a mobile radio.
However, I like having the display on the unit (not the mike). I’m comfortable staying with the MXT500 for my needs.
Keep up the great instructional videos.
Just picked one of these radio's up at the PNW Oveland expo. I will install tonight. Thank you for the breakdown. I am new to radio so this explained things very well. I feel less ignorant now. Thank you!
I enjoyed the 2 videos of yours I watched today. Funny! I have 35 years on the radio experience. I’m new to GMRS. I believe the MXT575 would be perfect in my Jeep. Thank you!
Love your style and format you have definitely influenced me I just ordered this radio thank you
I got a text from Midland just a few minutes ago . I’m glad your the first to do a review. We knew it would pricy.
No he isn’t.
Thank you Chris for allowing Randy to speard his knowledge on these youtubes.
This is exactly what I wanted, hook up and go! Me and friends that like to do 4x4 adventures they all have this radio! I just bought mine and installed it. I can hit my friend that’s 6 miles away and he sounds as clear as day. Works amazing! We all have the older cb’s also!
Have kept my ham license current since 1972 and just received the GMRS license-email-notification today. I would have to say that I'm excited about most anything radio related.
Is the price still 70 dollars or was it reduced to 35?
@@seriousb3449 it was reduced to $35 on April 19th.
Great video with even better narrating!!
Keep the videos coming 👍
Nice. This might have to go into my offroad rig.
👍👍👍 Thanks for the demo ! I rescently watched the 115 model demo...I was very disappointed in the narrow band it is on. Probably would've never bought another Midland. BUT, I'm extremely happy that this one is wide band. I'm gonna go find the 40watt Midland review and hope it's wideband. Thanks for your demos, I appreciate your straight honesty. 👏 ...Alan in 🇨🇱
I am new to Gmrs and really value your video's
For all this talk about roger beeps, I would love to see a sample clip or even a comparison of roger beeps between brands; they all have their own unique sound!
I was hoping you had a sample to test, I heard Midland give you a shoutout on the instagram live. I just installed the Mtx275 last week, so your video will decide if I open my wallet back up.
I have this radio. I have it mounted behind the rear seat in my Silverado with cat6 ethernet cable running up to the console for the microphone. The tiny antenna supplied is mounted using a bulletproof diesel third brake light antenna mount. You can barely notice the antenna there. I checked the SWR today, using the same SureCom meter as this video and it read 1.06 :1.
I like the all in one setup because I work in a bad area and when I unplug the mic. and toss it in the glove box. It's looks like I have nothing to steal. I ijust use this for truck to truck comms or maybe for camping with handhelds. Works well for me.
Randy and Chris awsome Work
Chris is the REAL mvp of these videos.
In March I bought the MXT275 (USB-C) model. My first GMRS radio, though I'm due to renew my license in a month, previously I just borrowed a GMRS radio for car meets in the mountains where cell phones do not work. Anyway, after getting that 275 I was really considered upgrading to the MXT575 when it releases, but as you mentioned it is the same simple interface as the 275. For a fixed station is likely all anyone would need since you'll likely not have more than one repeater you plan to use on any given repeater channel. For me I find that my 15W 275 reaches the local repeater just fine, so I have no need for a 50W home unit. In my truck I'm going with the KG-1000G because as a mobile unit I want to program the repeaters in the various areas I visit, so that radio suits this use better. Perhaps with the 50W unit in the truck I'll find another repeater "nearby" that I would like to use but the 15W 275 just can't reach, maybe then I'll update to the 575 in the house, already have a 30A power supply running the 275.
Also, Midland appears to have released an update very recently that should enable wide band for the repeater channels on the MXT275 (USB-C). My 275 is in a box to get ready to ship out for this update, making the need to upgrade for wide band go away as well.
Also, I've watched a few of your videos, I really followed the repeater project as that was informative on several things.
I'm confused. The GMRS license is good for ten years, and you're due to renew in a month? You've had your GMRS lic. for almost ten years? and just bought your first radio?
I considered getting a "50w" setup, but even with the BTECH 50x1 at only $219, I ended up deciding that the Retevis RA-25 with the Nagoya UT-72G (a DB20-G clone) at "20w" seems like it was more than sufficient based on your previous testing. Also at $106 for the radio and $25 for the antenna ($131), it seems like good value.
Ordered, through the affiliated link above. Thanks.
Wow a manual not written in ching-lish. Thanks Randy for another great review. 👍
I’m a ham / radio dork and love the simplicity of this. I use gmrs for talking to non-radio people off-roading, road tripping, etc. and just want something simple and powerful for that that has a clean and easy install since I’m also running tri-band ham in the same truck and don’t have much room for the second radio. I’ll save the more complex stuff and wide scanning options for the ham rig.
I believe that I have finally found the 'Man in the High Tower'. I have been 'watching' (oblique reference back to the High Tower) you and have been lurking around for a while. I finally pulled the trigger on the MXT575 based a lot on 'The Tower's' recommendation. Any preferred mounting location on a 2022 4-door Rubicon JLU? Jeeps are all made of aluminum (all-you'-min-E-um) and blow-molded pretzel plastic; I could drag a chain for a ground plane although Smokey Bear wouldn't be happy. My wife won't give up her favorite brownie pan. She said she just got it properly seasoned.
A very well done video. Thanks again.!
Thanks for the info Calculon.
I like having the readout on the mic, and a very simple readout with the important information, the channel, nice and big. This way a family member would only have to know what channel to go to, and can easily see it quickly.
I love how you challenge and prove wrong all of the “experts”
Now that I have my GMRS license, I’m wanting a more powerful radio. I have a 25watt BTech. It just won’t reach out as far as I want it to. So I’m going to try one of the new Midland radios. Im torn between the MXT500 & the MXT575. Both have the power I want .
I think this is everything I need. People are saying this is expensive, but since I suffer from an NFA Tax stamp addiction, this seems ok.
Great video. I'm liking this radio more and more. Do you know of any GMRS radios with a PA function? I'm getting to the age where I'm allowed to start yelling at kids to get off my lawn, and a PA would make that task so much easier....lol Seriously though, if there is a radio with this function, please share that info, thanks. Keep up the great work.
i tried HAM radio. the whole process left a bad taste in my mouth. So i tried GMRS. it works for what i need it to do. Thanks for the content
Love how you put your ground plane on a brownie pan and not centered and coiled cord as well as broadcasting from your windowsill (inside I’m sure)! I just installed this radio in my Jeep and when I posted about my radio check hitting the repeater 5x5 40 miles away, inside my shop with the doors closes…. Sent a Sad-HAM tech license into orbit and he had to Ham-Splain me that is dangerous to me and the radio….
nice radio. I do have the older 5watt version and you are correct about the antenna and coax. sold at local Walmart also got a 2 pack of GXT 1000 HT same store. we have no GMRS repeaters buy me in NY. I will get the Midland one but my GXT 1000 is not repeater GMRS. My Baofeng UV5 X and G11S are repeater ready and part 95E. sold at Amazon.
Seems like a pretty nice radio for a beginner For sure Might even get 1
YOU THA MAN THAT DELIVERS!
I never doubted it for a second
Simple works...helps when your driving and rock'n..rocking...
It's between the 2 midlands...
Anyways, great presentation on both. All..
Another fine video from Randy! Randaay, Showin us the radiooo...The Randmeister, Randy-ran Ran-Man. The Great Randino. Randaayy! - Rob Schneider probably :)
Pie pan and also a pizza pan work quite well as a ground plain for a mag mount. I have used both on " other frequencies" with astonishing results.
As long as the ground plane is metal, it should work with mag mount mobile antennas.
Thank you. I am quite familiar with the principal of the Counterpoise ground substitute for an earth ground.
Your always so educational and entertaining affiliate link below 9:30 😂
Good content, thanks from many fars away
I'm looking at the MXT575 for My offroad rigs for simplicity and range and ease ability to teach my wife and friends
@NotaRubicon Productions .... thanks for the great video. Hopefully you or one of your favorite viewers can help a newbie out.
I just installed my MXT575, using a shortened 12' midland cable(by CoolTech) attached to a Mildand MXTA26 antenna. I have it mounted to a CoolTech stainless steel nmo mount next to the am/fm antenna on the passenger side hood cowl panel of my JT.
When testing, on channel 01, I had an swr of 1.01 / FW W 2.94 / RW W .000 , but whe I tested on channel 20 I had an swr of 1.62 / FW W 27 / RW W 1.51.
I first do not understand why there is a difference in swr , but secondly why is the output wattage so low ?
I just read Midland GMRS antennas are pre-tuned to center channel (does that mean channel 11 ?) I can retest on channel 11 and lower the antenna some into the base as shown in your video, this may improve the swr, but what could possibly be causing the difference in swr and the low output power... Thank you for any help.
Nice presentation! RWB ❤🎉
Thank you for the nice video.I am your friend Dimitris (Jim) from Athens Greece.
I am really impressed with this radio. The only thing I wish they would have added was a way to create a scan list and a priority channel option. Other than that I love the ease of programming and being able to program easily on the fly.
@@sarahhudock7991 well I was thinking if I just had say 3 channels I really care to monitor I would like to be able to scan just those 3. It cuts down time because the scan on the midlands are relatively slow and may miss part of a message. It would be nice to have a priority channel option where I set my main channel as priority it will consider that channel over others while scanning. I could put my commercial icom radio in my jeep to accomplish this but this midland for me would be nearly perfect if it had the those options.
Love the Tekmats!
This radio is definitely for me. I'm a simple guy.
1/3 Watched the entire vid (btw, BRAVO ZULU) and read thru all of the comments. If I understand correctly, in a vehicle, the MXT-575 DOES NOT require a 13.8vdc power supply. But will operate in a somewhat degraded mode @ 12vdc when the engine is off.
2/3 Applies to a Toyota 4Runner: as the 6" antenna is 1/4 wave, is there any advantage to a longer antenna? If so, what is the nomenclature?
3/3 What's the 'simple science' behind mounting the antenna on the hood (where) vs the roof (optimal loc)?
Randy, You said it does not support multiple repeaters on the same channel. I understand how this works from the B Tech 50X3 which I own. Does it give you 22 workable memory locations or 30 (1-22 simplex and 15-22 repeater setups)? Or do you have to share 15 through 22 with simplex and repeater? In other words do you have to toggle the offset on and off whether you're on repeater or simplex?
I've been asked by a member of our local GMRS group to make a recommendation on this radio and I want to more fully understand it before I do. Thanking you in advance for your response and for all you do. I love your videos and share them with our local group all the time.
(PS. When I say 22 or 30 I do understand that channel 7 through 14 will not transmit)
Interesting at 7:23 the chassis appears to have a 4-hole mount & round opening for a fan like the KG-1000g but no fan like the MTX500. Is this correct? Could be another difference when remote mounting is a big part of this radio.
This was really great performance. I am impressed with this set up. With a big "real" antenna, simplex potential looks really great. Price tag is really kind of a put off though. Used or discounted might help on that. I'm seeing affordable GMRS as what more of us need.
Great unboxing video sir 😂🤣
It's NOT an unboxing, it's a DE boxing
Placing the antenna in the corner of the brownie pan - an epic move! :D
Thanks, Randy.
Randy, these “privacy codes” are they the same as the ctcss tones or are they different? Just looking for some clarification. Thank you!
Do any of the Midland radios allow you to program multiple repeaters tones on a single channel?
Do you know if the MXT575 radio has the same computer programming options like the 500? I have one ordered which should be here this week. It’s going in my rig. I like that the 500 can be set to an auto-off in case I forget the turn it off. Also being able to label channels would be nice as well.
Great video.
Well done! Little known feature the mic has is that there is a metal plate in the back of the mic below the clip for magnetic cell phone mounts or the kewl magnetic mic mount.
I clearly could not put the words together in the order they were thought.
Pricey.... (from an expert) :-P
Now on to listen to you explain why it may be worth the money.
Just wondering if you have done a review and power test on the MXT400? Can't seem to find one on your site. Thanks
Thanks I ordered one from your link.. let me just say great humor.. I was in cb in the 70 and 80s and just got my GMRS license
But…I never felt the ROI was worth all the technical crap to get a license and the promote you memorize questions.
the bottom line the geek HAM really just want a small group. The sad fact I believe is that as they DIE so is the hobby.
WhenI get my drivers license I am not required to know how to tear apart a engine.
Theyshould just test for rules and Regis and code of conduct for ham and pay a fee. At the age of 69 I have more important hobbies
Than sitting all day in front of a radio…BUT if they made easy to get a ham license they could save the hobby.
We need as much communication as possible in a mass emergency..
Thanks for the review
I loved this! I just watched the MXT275 and thought that would be great for my truck. but then I saw this today and I'm totally getting one. Midland has the stubby fixed antenna with mount for the MXT275 with 3db gain, could I use that antenna on the MX575 without issues? or could you recommend another short or stubby antenna that is not magnetic mount
If you are referring to the MXTA25 ghost antenna, yes you can. It also does not require a ground plane, which makes it a great choice for Jeeps ( I run this antenna on a Gladiator with Midlands "lip" mount(MXTA27))
Will you be doing a video on the messi and paoloni cable?
I got my GMRS license yesterday. I’m looking at this and the 275 if they’ve updated it to wide band.
How sturdy did you feel the microphone connection was to the box? My friend and I were a bit worried, and therefore checking out another one of their models with a different microphone connection.
Question, is replacing this included antenna with the popular stubby MXTA25 antenna going to improve much? I bought the stubby before buying the 575 and can still return the stubby if the included dinky one is about as good as the stubby. Thank you.
Great review, been waiting for this. If the end user did not want/need the extra 35w of power, in your expert opinion, is it worth getting the 575 over the 275?
IIRC, the 275 is narrowband only, so that would be a dealbreaker for me. If they've updated the 275 to wideband, then it would be a good choice still.
Hey Chris, nice hat 👒
picture in the background priceless 😆
What are the details on the repeater 60 miles away? What equipment is used and how high is the antenna? Would love to hear more information on repeaters from you. LOVE your content and sense of humor!
The only details about that repeater that we have is that it is on a mountain, at an elevation much higher than me or Chris.
My 575 arrived about a week ago. Any recommendations on where to find a 'best practice' guide or vid for the optimal install in a 2002 4Runner or closely similar vehicle. Edit: I'll be using the MXTA-26 antenna. Best placement and cable run? Tks
While Midland radios aren’t for me, I have to confess that I am impressed by the output power being so close to Midland’s claims!
I am a very happy ham because I watch Randy. When will Randy go on some of the other Utuber ham channels and elevate their audiences?
Chris should come too!!
Happy ham here also. GMRS is another layer of possibilities.
Question ---> there are two 1/8" jacks on the back and one is an extension speaker for the communication side of the radio. The other is labelled as a PA Output. Here's the question =--> how do you access that ability?
Not imperfect ground plane, but could provide some directionally focused radiation for distant fares.
The MTX 575 looks a perfect radio. Although I wish I could find ICOM, KENWWOOD or MOTOROLA GMRS Mobiles, but I assume neither of those manufactures will have GMRS FCC Part 95 A and 95 E typed accepted Radios anytime soon. I am surprized that MAXON hasn't update their GMRS 210+3 or produced other GMRS radios. MAXON GMRS 210+3 handheld looked good when they were in production. I picked one off of Ebay, but the radio isn't working.
Great review and works great for my application. Having all the controls in the microphone is a huge plus for my needs. However, a short coming is in programming repeaters. This seems to be the same with the MXT275 and the MXT575. I have two local repeaters and I have one setup. However the one on 462.650 has a CTCSS RX/TX of 254.1. According to the chart in the user manual it only goes up to 250.3. I have setup other GMRS radios with Chirp but not sure how to overcome this issue. Thoughts?
I need the model number for that pie pan.,. that thing rocks!!! and where do you get a FARS meter
Sorry newbie here, thr Duracom power box to makr the radio a base station, can other 50 watt radios that you have discussed also be plugged into that? Yhanks for your time, I always enjoy listening to u as I am now your newest favorite viewer!
Yes.
Added note the radio will work with the antenna off set on a plan but the reflective issue would mess up the radio to over time that's why we try to have it in the middle of the plan
Love your videos and excellent review of this unit. Myself and my girlfriend have this radio and for the most part we have been really impressed. I did have a mic start producing static after a couple of months and I ordered a replacement mic and solved that. I do have a question regarding range. I have checked the SWR's and my antenna is a 5/8 Larsen mounted on the left fender of my jeep with a SWR of around 1.16 and hers is the small unity on top of her Santa Cruz with a SWR around 1.29. In the evening we will talk when she is on her way home from work starting at about 12 miles away one night and the next night we can't begin communications until we're about 6 miles apart. All times have been with my Jeep in the same location stationary and she will be on the same route home. Can or does atmospheric conditions affect GMRS that much or could I have another problem? Same for the mornings. Some mornings I can hit a repeater 50 miles away and its a good solid return and the next morning I can't even hit the repeater at all. Suggestions?
Believe it or not uhf frequencies can be swayed by the weather, even wind, because the wavelength of a uhf signal is so short. And it’s even worse for 800mhz and higher frequencies, including cell phone frequencies.
Thanks for the great video and explanations. What other walkie-talkie would you recommend that is easy to use and program in conjunction with the MXT575? I know that in the video you contacted your buddy on the Motorola XTS 5000 but I am reading that the 5000 is very difficult to program. I am looking for a simple solution as I am new to this. Thanks in advance. Bastien
Does this radio power on automatically when power is applied, or do you have to turn it on manually every time you cycle the key in a vehicle.
This also fits in the ammocan box for the mxt500.
As an expert in simplicity I simply want you to say I am your favorite viewer. If you remind everyone that I am your favorite viewer, YOU WILL RECEIVE my undying gratitude.
How many fars will the included coax reach?
Sincerely,

A perfect radio for Simple Jack
Randy IS a simple boy.
I'm liking the partial simplistic babble. You make this entertaining. GMRS appears to be as technical as you would like to take it. (WATTS, VSWR, Db, WIRE vs CABLE, Fars) Everyone can seek their own level of technical understanding for a comfort zone. GMRS seems to open up the range of simplicity to the technical to just communicate to others on a radio. Thanks !! 👍🎧
You gotta have some serious open range. I can barely get 10 miles with the 15w midlands.
Curious if that hole in the back is for a fan? Wasn't sure if maybe it doesn't need one?
Hows the antenna work with just the 2 way taped metal magnetic mount as a "GROUND PLANE" I'm assuming within specs if they included it.
How in the world do you get the mic speaker to work with the head unit speaker?!
Good for the sticky pad as most newer trucks bodies are now aluminum
great video
Newbie here to GMRS. I recently purchased a 2023 JL Willys and wanted to add GMRS. I went with the Midland MXT575 with included hardware. I upgraded the antenna to the 32'' whip MXTA 26. I bought the bracket that connects it to my cowl on the drivers side. I ran my power straight to the battery. The radio base is mounted on the side of the plastic where the shifters are. I attached the extra coaxial under the drivers side on the metal bracket and zip tied it. I thought everything was fine. Sitting with the engine off everything is quiet (no squelch) receives and sends well and weather channels come in awesome. The issue is when the jeep is running the squelch is always on. Even if I adjust it, its like its receiving I guess you would say. The factory setting for sensitivity is 04 and I have adjusted it and the squelch and nothing changes. Do you have any suggestions sir of things to check? Not a fan of riding around with the squelch blaring.
I really wish they would add the rest of the CTCSS codes.
Same here
Does the mic from the 575 work with the 500? I want to be able to use dual display.
Can you power that radio by using an addafuse from the fuse panel inside?
