Chuck breaks it down well too. That Rodman was a Supreme rebounder and a superb Defender. But Horace could get you 12 to 15 a night, was a very good catch and shoot player and seemed to get open under the Hoop as he got many easy dunks off passes. And he certainly did his job on the glass and as a paint defender as well.

      it really was the perfect comparison how a big part of how they lost that series was they were not ready for Game 1
      back in 91 when the Bulls beat the Lakers yes the Lakers won game 1 a big part of that was Magic's experience going into 91 that was Magic's 9th Championship game had previously gone 5-3 in the other 8 for Jordan and the Bulls that was their first dance in the big game so it took them a bit to adjust
      the Bulls made 1 key move they realized Jordan Guarding Magic was a very bad idea so they switched they put Pippen on Magic and then they crushed them in a reverse sweep 4-1 series
      sadly for Barkley his game was Jordan's 3rd and as he admitted his team were not prepared for game 1 in the other 5 games his team lost 3-2 which is really not that bad considering the slow start against the back to back defending NBA Champions they put up more of a fight then the Lakers did they lost game 6 thanks to pretty much a last second 3 pointer from John Paxson had that shot not gone in they win game 6 series 3-3 where anything could have happened in game 7

    As an avid NBA fan back in the 90’s, it’s crazy how many “what if’s” came out of this series. The Suns had game 6 in the palm of their hands......and gave it away! They held the Bulls to a total of 9 points through the entire 4th quarter, and led them by 4 points with under a minute remaining, AND HAD THE BALL!!! If it wasn’t for a ridiculous crazy ending, that series would have went to game 7 on the Suns home floor. Nobody will ever know what would have happened in game 7, but I think the Bulls would have had a VERY tough hill to climb. Phoenix had finally put it all together, and I believe they would have won game 7 on their home court.

    Barles Charkley is THE MAN. I am a lifelong and currently struggling Phoenix Suns fan. When I was a kid we had season tickets for the Phoenix Suns during the 1992-93 season when the Suns went to the finals against the Bulls. Charles never got enough credit during his playing days when it came to hustle. That man hustled and never took any time off during the season. And at least that season he hardly ever took a play off either. He was a 6'4" power forward back when the average size for power forwards was 6'10" and 250lbs! So he had to really play hard.. and not only did he succeed night in and night out against bigger players, but he dominated them both offensively and on the boards. But what got me the most was the fact that he was just an everyday dude if you met him in person, which my dad and I did. I wore a homemade t-shirt all year that said Charles Barkley will win the MVP. We sat in the third row up above the Suns bench. And to my surprise when he won it..he came up to me and my dad after a playoff game against the Seattle Supersonics, and gave me a pair of his shoes that he autographed. He said he noticed my shirt a few times throughout the season and told himself that if he does indeed win the MVP he's going to do something special for me! He sat and talked to my dad and I for 10 minutes and it completely took me by surprise that he was just a humble everyday dude. I still have those sneakers..I was offered $2500 for them a few years, back but elected to keep them so that I could give them to my son when he's 18.

    The Suns were also dealing w/ more injuries than the Bulls- Kevin Johnson (3rd leading scorer and leading play-maker), Richard Dumas (4th leading scorer), and Oliver Miller missed a combined 93 games whereas key injuries to the '93 Bulls were Cartwright, Paxson, Trent Tucker, and Scott Williams all missed only 66 games. Rodman was one of the greatest rebounder and a great defender, but his offensive was lacking. Grant was a very good rebounder, a good defender, and good offensively. He was also less trouble than Dennis that often missed practices. I'll take Grant most of the times. But 2nd three-peat bulls had Tony Kukoc, that was why Grant offensive skill was not as crucial as before.

    • @rashb3994
      @rashb3994 Před 4 lety +9

      Yup! Rodman's intangibles were just too overwhelming. The only thing they needed to replace was Horace Grant's ability to nail 15 footers and they got that out Wennigton, Longley and Kukoc. Everything else Rodman was way more dynamic at on the defensive end. I always feel like if he wanted to score more he could've. He just didn't care about it anymore.

      @awesomereviews1561 Před 4 lety +5

      I would take Horace Grant, better overall player (not as good in defense and rebound though, like you said but still pretty good) better offensive player and A LOT more reliable.

    Charles was a dynamic basketball player, if his team was as stacked as Mikes he could have took a championship from MJ.

      Players who were all-stars at some career point on those Suns... Barkley, KJ, Majerle, Chambers, Ceballos. And they had Ainge and Richard Dumas on top of that. They were deeper than the Bulls.

      "Charles was a dynamic basketball player, if his team was as stacked as Mikes he could have took a championship from MJ." Because the teammates would have _liked_ Charles. Mike, e.g., didn't speak to Rodman because he didn't feel like it. For years, unless it was basketball strategy that occurred to Mike. Rodman was a guy who happened to be so sensitive that that was bad for the Bulls, but Mike was more about Mike than he was about the Bulls.
