3-Phase Fuel Pump Testing & Diagnosing - BMW Vehicles - How To Test Fuel Pressure and Voltage

- With high pressure fuel systems, automotive manufacturers need to control fuel delivery more precisely. To meet these requirements, most manufacturers have moved to 3-phase brushless fuel pumps. Including late model BMWs, like this G-chassis we’re working with today.
This new style of fuel pump can operate with a wider range of delivery pressures, it’s also designed to operate quieter, more efficiently and have a longer lifespan. Even with these improvements, the pumping elements still wear from contamination and debris in fuel. Your shop should expect to see pump failures and weak pumps that can cause issues in the high pressure fuel system.
In this video, we're going to show you how to test the in-tank fuel pump and fuel pump electronics. You’ll want to perform this test when you suspect incorrect fuel pressure from the in-tank or low pressure side of the fuel delivery system, or when diagnosing a pressure fault in the high-pressure fuel system.

Definitely enjoyed this video. Going to test one now using these test methods. Thanks
Great to hear!
Does anyone know if the fpc will function without the crash data signal hooked up?
No, it will not.
which phase gets power to prime when opening door or unlocking car?
All three are controlled to activate the pump. See the start up waveform in the video.
3 PHASE NOW?! Damn, another thing to learn.
We're here to help!
Been that way for quite sometime brother.
