- ■ INDIA, AHMEDABAD: After the epic hospitality this Indian family you see in the thumbnail showed me whilst touring their home in one of Ahmedabad's roughest neighborhoods, there was never really any doubt as to whether I was going to give them a little token of my appreciation. The only question was how much?
Whilst eating dinner with them I had roughly $150 on me but decided to not hand over a single dollar. I know how people around the world and especially in Asia feel when it comes to these things. They don't act hospitable because they expect a reward but because of their belief in humanity. Handing over any sum upon my first visit would thus likely be construed as an insult regardless of how sorely it was needed. So I decided to walk out with the intention of coming back with a much larger sum.
I had not yet spent February's Patreon money (the money donated to me by Patreons from around the world which is all earmarked for giving to others I run into on my travels). This family was as worthy a candidate as I think I'll ever run into.
So after a brief trip back to my hotel room to get my credit card, off I went to the bank....

- This is somewhat of a worry to me actually and i've given this a lot of thought. The $400 barber also told me (through a news reporter who interviewed him) that it was like God had come to give him a break. I've concluded though that preaching atheism to anyone isn't what I'm there to do and in any case what I say would fall on deaf ears. Instead all I make sure to try and convey is that this is a gift for your hard work/accomplishments/ethics etc... i.e. a reward for your personal actions and then hope that this will encourage them to continue on the path to greatness. If some people need God to motivate them / not stray so be it. What matters is that they stay the course.

Can't understand the negativity for the Translator..I mean he's not a professional Translator that gets paid...He took time of his schedule so that he can Help Harald ..English isn't his mother tongue, He probably speaks multiple languages Gujarati, Hindi and english Included..All those CZcams videos don't necessarily have word to word translations..He briefly gave an idea of the words that Harald wanted to say..Sometimes due to accents words are hard to pick ..He did a great job..The family understood the emotions..That's all that counts...Great job Harald as Usual...Your Donations will make a great impact in their lives..

I am 2 years late but this is a really great video. Apart from showing a different culture to mine it shows happy people making the best of what they have. Their reaction to the money was great.
One Australian guy ,whose name I ve forgotten, went to live in a chawl in Maharashtra ,chawl means very impoverished area where people re driven to live because of poverty ,so this guy lived at this place for several years ,where ever he went ,women would offer him fresh food ,accepted him with open arms ,this man was an outlaw and escaped from an Australian jail ,he later went on to write a book on his experiences living in India and surviving on doing odd jobs ,later he married a princess of some country ,he fell in love with the way Indians treated him ,you go to any house in India ,you ll get the same treatment ,offering tea and fresh food is ingrained in our culture .

A lot of people trash India and while it may have its problems India is much better than it's made out to be by the media establishment. I remember South Korea in the 80's and 90's, it was dirty and poverty wasn't all that rare. Now look at South Korea. The same will happen regarding India's economic standing, I just hope as things become easier that India still remains Indian and keeps her culture.
My dream is a world in which the Indian people I love so much don't have to chase their dreams abroad, but can stay in India and chase the Indian dream. A world in which the first thing a Westerner thinks regarding India is not IRS and tech scammers, but much rather friendly approachable people that hold Dharmic values.

The old man was asking for money for medicine as he didn't know u gave money for everyone. He didn't know the amount. However your translator didn't tell you exactly tell you what he was saying and told you he was having blood pressure problem. But it will work fine when family will tell him about the amount they receive and hopefully they will help him.

the translator was not translating correctly. .herald was asking the man to leave but the translator was asking him to stay and give interview for 5 min , thats why he was not leaving but said he was busy, (i think because he was shy).
It's not his fault.. it's translator fault he gave him a wrong message.. translator told that guy that harald wants to talk with you for 5 min
