Me 2 though unlike these guys I have been listening for a while. He grows on you.
I’m a bit confused about what you’re saying I have to be honest. I think you’re being a bit tunnel visioned on what you were “expecting” and not listening to the performance as a whole. This is a live busking session on the streets with a mash up of songs blended together, in a pretty awesome way in my opinion. Maybe you need to listen a couple of times, without stopping it and with out a negative “expectation” of what you think it should be, and trying and see it for what it actually is - a group of band mates jamming out in the streets and sounding pretty damn good!

I think what they did was the point, relatively seamlessly blending 4 songs. I guess you would have preferred 4 individual songs, not sure.
From what I've seen of the band, which is quite a bit admittedly 😅 that's generally what they really enjoy doing, taking several different songs and making them fit fairly naturally.

Ren uses scatting for transitions in a lot of mashups, and I think it works well here too go from reggae to ska and then from hiphop back to the reggae riff.
You are spot on about Sting, Ren's a big fan. He does a switched up version of Message in a Bottle blended with Back on 74 that you might like. Smooth lounge singer style.

I am 69 and I think Ren is fantastic! Ren is very unique, and you seem to be stuck that the arrangement should be a certain way, it's Ren's version. Keep in mind it's live on a street corner. Few artists could do this and sound this good. Ren does so many genres of music, and does them all well. He has a large catalog of original music he writes, and produces all of his stuff. He is simply all around talented, the best musician I have come across in 30 years or more. If you love music you should check out some more of his catalog. I found him 18 months ago and haven't stopped watching and listening to ALL of the many styles and performances of his. I am listening from Michigan, U.S.A. Love him here!

Ren is one of the most talented artists of this generation. Even when doing an older generation’s music he is bring people into that music. The guy on the right does not seem to grasp all ren does. He sang road to Zion. He did not just repeat Zion. He mixed scartting into the song. .i must admit, I’ve never seen a reactor blame their confusion on the artist. And talk over the performance. Ah well, hope you keep an open mind.
I can sorta get where you are coming from, I will say that for a band playing on the street doing a medley, knowing your form and reading the audience is the biggest part of performance and these guys are spectacular at playing to a crowd. Ren has easily become my favourite artist of late, but with The Big Push you really get to see him shine as a band member and when he is playing lead he is a concise communicator to his band mates. After seeing so many bands play at live venues in my lifetime what impresses me the most the fact that this is a busking band, in the middle of a street, pumping out tunes so in the pocket, so damn tight, that they sound effortless. I've seen plenty of better known bands play live and do a far worse job. Ren has a very strong ear for songs with chordal and melodic relationships and his other mashups show this as well, like his more recent medley of Back on 74, by Jungle, and Message in a Bottle, by The Police. Yes, Ren's voice has always said Sting to me too. Also, "Hip Hop" is a song by Dead Prez, they weren't necessarily looking to change to a hip hop feel as much as showcasing the song in the jam. Great reaction, I look forward to more!

Cant believe nobody has suggested “hi ren” its the song thats has introduced most folk to ren. Oh and the tale of jenny and screech trilogy. Both original live and one takes. But he is truly remarkable crossing across so many genres it’s ridiculous. A rare talent carrying a heavy burden of illness.

The Big Push also does the Sting song Englishman in New York. Ren grew up listening to the Police and his voice matches up with Stings range and tone. To get even more bluesy,they have a Medley of Wade in the Water/Trouble So Hard/ Nina Simone.
Did you get that the last song was named HipHop,by Dead Prez? It doesn't matter if it sounded Ska, the band put their own spin on this music.

I'm not sure they'd get it 🤔 after watching this reaction. I'm oldish (70) so I'd have thought they'd appreciate scat (who, my age, doesn't remember and love Louis Armstrong?) and to view a performance in its entirety. Ah well, I am Ren biased so maybe I'm being a bit harsh 😁

These reactors didn't recognize 3 of the 4 songs in this mashup, but they didn't like the arrangement, and they said there wasn't any hip hop, just Ren singing the words "Hip hop" over and over again 😂
a lot of people don't on first listening . If a person has not heard Ren before and not knowing his talent this does not seem such a great performance. I like Ren and his style so perhaps the guys will give him another listen with another track like Back on 74 which is brilliant imo.

Seriously, it's one thing not to know the songs, but to criticize Ren for "forgetting the words" when he scats? That's just ignorant, and age isn't a factor there. Hypercritical guy on the right isn't going to learn anything when he talks so much over the top of the video, and already "knows" everything. I like to enjoy reactions, so I won't be back.

I am a huge Ren fan and love his stuff. I know a few people seem a little upset by this review however they were not completely wrong in what they said particularly considering what these fellas are used to listening to. He was right they played I shot the Sherrif through the entire song. The guy on the right is most assuredly a musician he knows what he is talking about. I actually love this performance but I don't think they were understanding the concept of a mashup plus with Ren rapping that probably didn't help either. I would like to see some more Ren reactions from you guys but you need to be aware he is a genre bender, very unique and it may be very difficult to relate to the things he does. He is a super talented guy though he plays guitar, bass, piano, sings, raps, makes his own beats and produces his own music. The last album he put out went to #1 in the UK and he is completely independent. The real magic of Ren is his lyricism...he is maybe the best lyricist I have seen in my life. Lastly I would suggest for you guys to react to Ren The Tale of Jenny and Screech. Make sure to find the 13 min video that contains Jenny, Screech and Violet's Tales.

I'm back already! Even though I love this mashup, I can see where your view is coming from. Reaction videos should always be honest like yours. Tbh you'll hear it differently from us untalented folk. Your reactions are coming from being well versed, longtime musicians with a perfect ear, so you can pick up on every aspect of a performance. Your knowledge and honesty is important. There's enough fake reactors on CZcams already and I don't have the time or the patience for false profits! Ignore the negative comments and always be true to yourselves ❤
Yep we did get some negative comments from our reaction but that is exactly my point it is afterall our reaction. @theeddianproject I've put on the notification setting (which I rarely do)so I don't miss it. In fact I don't subscribe to much on CZcams at all. Looking forward to hearing your own music and what genre to hear. I'm a 70's/80's music person (punk/ska/rock/metal) but I do like some 90's grunge and have been known to frequent the odd rave in my time lol. I'm an obsessive frequent concert goer and never go a month without at least 1 gig. Music is what helps my mental health more than all the medication I take. It's one of the things that keeps me alive tbh. It's my saviour.

If a 'Youngblood' cover blows your mind, it's probably a good idea not to do anymore Ren stuff as his music will probably disappoint you even more than this one did. Not everyone gets it. Keep up the good work, though, as it is nice to hear a UK based reaction channel.

Ren was playing respect to two great songs and all the rasta's I have seen who have reacted to this were in tears, equally the rapping community loved Hip Hop which was a huge hit to Ded Prez. It was a busk, having fun. Not sure you can compare it to something in the studio. But its your reaction, and your choice is to get into the tech side, fair play. Try Hi Ren by Ren for something non Genre.

One a positive, you came across pretty well. On the slightly more irritating, The guy on the left seems to mostly just agree or repeat what the other guy is saying without actually hearing what is being said or adding anything solid of his own and the guy on the right seems to not be able to see that songs can be done differently and his couldn't seem to hear all the other words being said around the word Zion and just thought it was the Bob Marley Zion not the Damian Marley Road to Zion. Don't expect you to know every song out there but at least listen to the ones being sung in front of you and not assume they are something different. Will watch some more, and hope to warm up to you.

I don't know what you set out to do but that was as bad a reaction as I've seen - I don't think reacting is for you
Music is all about the audience... and I think the audience there might disagree with you. To get that size of crowd, and that kind of energy, on a street corner busk is highly unusual.
I think perhaps you were evaluating it based on certain expectations, rather than the performance as a whole.
Also, 'Hip Hop' in the title refers to a specific track (Bigger than Hip Hop by Dead Prez, 1999) rather than a style... he sped it up and integrated it into the ska/two-tone theme.
The 'tangent' vocals that seemed to confuse you, were not made up lyrics but a little tonal scatting. You paused right on the transition a few times, and that lost some of the musical context. This is why most reviewers rewind a few seconds after a pause - particularly on transitions.
I think perhaps a few simple misunderstandings going in, combined with a little rigidity of thought, may have lessened your enjoyment. Maybe you just had to be 'there' and feeling rather than thinking.
Normally I'd suggest following up with either 'bongo bong' or their 'Metallica War-Pigs cover' from the same corner ... but, I'm not sure how you'd receive them.
All I ask is that you don't write off Ren or the Push... they really can't be put in a box - the moment you think you know what Ren is about, he'll completely surprise you.
Perhaps try his 'Back on 74 / Message in a Bottle' cover for a very different, more mature, vibe.
Despite thinking you really missed the vibe on this one, you got a +1 sub, and I'll ring the bell. You clearly have a very different reaction to music than me, and I'm interested to see where these reactions go.

We realise that there were some presuppositions on our part, but what we are trying to do is give a genuine first time reaction. However we have started to research the talent we react to before viewing. There is another reaction to Ren (due to requests) and that is scheduled for Thursday so hopefully you will join us for that and thanks again for your sub it is much appreciated. 👍
Me thinks you chaps came in with some very pre conceived ideas of what you expected to hear, and consequently, you missed the magic of a unique and never to be repeated performance. At my advanced age, I can only feel sorry for you. I know this group of artists has changed my life over the past year, and I do not believe I am alone.. I have begun to listen to music again after turning the radio off years ago due to the dullness of modern over produced and manipulated music. Ren, Romain, Gorran and Glen have reawakened and grown my interest in music in a way that no other band ever has. (I grew up with the best the world had to offer from UK, USA and the down under countries. The way I see it, the attraction of this performance is it's difference from the original songs in parts combined with the familiarity of parts which listeners can recognise. Just watch the crowd and see how they respond to each change in song or tempo. Road to Zion is a Damian Marley song. The ska section was a garage( ?) song "With a little bit of Luck" from the UK artists MC Neat and DJ Luck. Hip Hop is a Dead Prez song. Perhaps you may wish to find the originals and have a listen to appreciate what the Big Push did here?
There are many more Ren and Big Push songs, I hope if you listen to more, you will begin to appreciate the talent of all the band members and the musical/lyrical genius of Ren himself. It is worth the effort.
