    In Kosen competitions (there is no such thing as Kosen Judo, Kosen means highschool, it was a mode of competition where newaza had more latitude) many Judoka used to pull guard as the rule requiring an skillfull entry into newaza was not employed at Highschool Judo Competitions. So, pulling guard is a tactic. Andre Galvão is a Judo black belt, and he uses to pull guard even though he has good throws. Roger Gracie too. Their bottom game is so developed that they can sacrifice the top position.

    I watch this fourteen years later (2014) and what I can say is that if Yoshida did not block Honorato's Uchi Mata, maybe he had a chance for redemption, possible he could have competed in the Athens Games in 2004. But that is how history unfolded. Sadly, he ended up fighting in the big stage of MMA at that time called Pride FC.

      kigawman yea sometimes you just have to accept that fact when you're about yo get thrown. Yoshida knew it. But sadly he put his arm down which is a no no I'm judo. That arm probably will never be 100 percent.

    Last November I dislocated my elbow just as bad as Yoshida while training. It is the most painful experience I've ever had in my life. Man, that is the best sling they could give him? That is cruel and ridiculous.

    yeah i know its a bit weird but BJJ is very well known as a competitor against Judo as a choice for what type of Martial Art is better... and what makes it hilarious is mostly only Judo people making this competition! most BJJ people i have met are humble about learning Judo but Judo people seem to hate BJJ.... i dunno its crazy i do Judo myself and i love to rag on BJJ people i train with just for shits and giggles but i think they are both good just that BJJ needs to be more well rounded

    If you believe any Judoka today, even top level elite judoka, train newaza as hard as the average BJJer then I would concede to your points. The truth is they don't. Even Yoshiro Okuda's students don't train so much newaza as BJJers do. So, while Judoka also train in newaza their focus due to competition rules lies in tachiwaza. You won't find a Judoka that spends more time in newaza than tachiwaza. So it's a matter of emphasis. Judoka can be more complete like Koji Komuro.

    @hekoka Nah man, after watching some Kosen Judo I'm pretty much convinced they are very much so the same martial art. Fact is that most people who practice judo don't practice newaza much anymore because it's not much a part of competition. Judo guys can do all the things you just said too..look up some Kosen Judo.

    I have great respect for ALL martial arts,have trained in most of them for many years each.But i see many hate for BJJ in youtube videos,especially Judo ones.I guess BJJers must do something right for this to happen...Peps need to grow up,bjj is bad for the EGO.Train in it and you gonna get that,i know it feels bad to get submitted

    why are people hating on BJJ? you do know that the Gracies learned judo from a japanese guy right? they were like brothers, and now you're hating on BJJ which derived from judo. so you're indirectly hating on a judo master that tried to spread his art form

  • @ilikevines
    @ilikevines Před 11 lety

    You need speed and strength to execute a lot of the Judo techniques, BJJ was invented for weaker people to be able to defend themselves against much larger opponents.

    • @flowrepins6663
      @flowrepins6663 Před 8 měsíci

      😂 nope. You been fooled by gracies they laughing at you. The creator of judo , that actually didnt create he learned from others probably, was jigoro kano and he him self said he made it so he could defend him self being weak. He was way smaller than helio i believe and also the bjj was not invented it was all in judo. So much that kimura beaten helio. Yoshida beaten royce . Also it is possible that kato actually defeated helio also. They say helio cheated and choked kato unguarded when referee told to separate. N in both fights they would knock or injure helio gracie if they didnt made soft floor .

      柔道家は20代後半になると筋力やスタミナやスピード技のキレが落ちて若い人に経験値では勝っても肉体的には勝てなくなります。
      原因は肉体を酷使して怪我との戦いでもあるのでその年齢ぐらいから酷使してきた身体が限界を向かえ身体が思うように動かなくなり頭では解ってても身体が思うように動かなくなりスピードや技のキレや反応が若い時より劣り勝てなくなります。
      そうなった時に現役柔道家は引退を意識します

    To show proper respect you should not commemorate while inside the mat... Only after leaving it you are allowed to commemorate. This is Judo etiquette. It seems that Yoshida doesn't show respect either. You don't know what you are talking about Honorato. He's a guy that respects very much all his adversaries. He did not realized Yoshida's injury, since you don't expect a top judoka like yoshida doing such terrible ukemi, will you?

    "Yoshida Hero of Judo and Judo-kas world wide" that's true, and maybe the brazilian guy won this fight but Yoshida is the best Judo ka of this time, and who is the brazilian guy???? only someone who beats Yoshida once. And he is a dick he didn't even check his oponnent after the throw. Japan is not only about Judo Kendo or fighting, It's all about respect and the brazilian fighters dont know that

    Dude you try protecting Judo,but you end up crapping all over it afterwards,ground fighting is like 60% of Judo.Its the finishing part of Judo,throws and sweeps of Judo are there to get the fight to the ground. Training in a Judo dojo that doesn't emphasize ne waza is like going to the army but not training with weaponry.

  • @SuperDUDERIKI
    @SuperDUDERIKI Před 12 lety

    You got BJJkas that would throw around Judo BB's like feathers and you have Judokas that would submit BJJ BB's like limbless worms,bottom line is every school has its way of teaching,nothing is for sure,hell even in Karate all of the schools styles are defined with x percent of these techniques and y percent of these.

    Well, I'm a Judo Black Belt under the legend George K. Mehdi (yes, the one that Hélio Gracie feared) and even with this Judo lineage behind my back I tell you that your statements are not accurate. Most of the Japanese people recognize that BJJ today has the superiority in newaza. Do you disagree with this? Do you think the best "grapplers" aren't to be found in BJJ? If you consider BJJ just Judo then It's Judo with such emphasis in newaza and almost a century of paralell evolution...

  • @pcjudosambo
    @pcjudosambo Před 14 lety

    Majority of American Judo clubs do not practice much newaza. Just basic pins, escapes, a few sweeps, arm bars, basic chokes ... maybe blue belt BJJ level. There are a few (not many) judo clubs in USA that are influenced by oversees martial arts (eg Russian Sambo, etc) those are good clubs and practice 50% up and 50% down. But if you want top level Judo newaza, you got to go to some Asian countries and European ... newaza there is much better if comparing to America. Russian judo is the best :-)
