I know this vid is over 2 years now, but it still remains a very convincing demo of the power, versatility and utility of Arturia products, including the Keylab Mk2 controller, Analog Lab, and the V-Collection. Well done, guys.
Got mine a few months ago...its a Godsend controller...works flawless in my studio as its automatically mapped to Ableton, Pro Tools,Logic Pro & Reaper. It works flawlessly in Ableton that I use live on stage as the knobs & faders are a breeze & it has aftertouch. Absolutely no glitches with Analog Labs & the V collections that comes along with it. I both giig & produce with this very light but powerful versatile compact machine that you can easily just carry under your arm to any venue....Frickin awesome controller & its affordable too....2 thumbs up for Arturia Keylab.
my GAS is now triggered.
Thank you so much for this video guys! Helped me understand my MIDI better!
The way they talked is so commercial that's actually hilarious(not in a bad way)
i get that these are basically sales pitches masquerading as demos/reviews but the shilling is just so on the nose in this one.
Love this! Fantastic video! Thank you for sharing this!
I got a black keylab mkII, soo nice. Built like a tank. All I need to do now is be less rubbish, but it certainly isn't the keyboard holding me back
Wonderful video! Thank you very much for sharing this! This was very informative! It is greatly appreciated!
Keyboards never get old. đđčâ€ïž
Great video guys!
Just bought one. Waiting for it, in The Netherlands. Great video guys! Thumbs up!
Got mine today, 61 key black. love it. comes with 5 full versions of their instrument software. that's hard to beat...
Hey there! I'm looking for a keyboard that I can use to control my synths without having to put a computer inbetween. Its not eurorack, just desktop synths. Is this this, your, keyboard a good product for that purpose?
Sorry for bothering you, just like to get answers from people actually using things I want to buy!
@@thames21 no dude don't do it. I just bought a keylab mk 2 and it's fantastic, but it's crazy that they didn't put the sequencer and arp tech they have from the keystep into it. Just crazy. Literally the day after I bought my keylab I learned about about the novation SLmk3, which is pretty much perfect for what you (and I) want. Sequencer, arp, same control compatibility as the keylab, and easily set up to control your synths. Shame on me for not doing more research I guess
If you choose this board, white is the only choice! Black is like choosing non alcoholic beer instead of a normal one.
Hey does this have a scale/song keymode where it shows the notes fore each key ?
@@danielmulholland5869 its also alot more expensive đ
What a beauty piece of hardware
I'm not much of a keys player (More of a dedicated, intermediate bassist, amateur guitar player.) but this just seems so inspiring and fascinating to me.
You are right my friend. I bought one and I don't regret at all. One of the best midi controllers and so full of features you won't believe.
It is the single greatest music company today for the âgutter artistâ like myself. Can I play the piano? Fuck no. Am I now at my creative zenith at 57 yrs of age? Yes. Why? Arturia. It really is that easy. Get the V Collection, you will be astounded.
@@malcolmbliss777 Heh, another guitar player here. I just bought the 88 key version of this. It's pretty mind blowing what you can do in no time. I really love it. I do have a Roland FP-30 as well, and the weighted action of the keys on that do stand head and shoulders above this. However, that is for piano playing. But man, this Arturia, along with the included software is an amazing package. I would recommend the 61 key version though.
Thanks for the video, just ordered a black one from Andersonâs đđ»
I was so close to buying one before I saw your show, now I need to re psyche myself to get it. Thanks guys.
I know it's a little late to ask but:
This Kontroller looks very good ain't it ? What has been your reason to not buy it ?
Iâm a Mylar Melodies fanboy. That dude makes me learn SO MUCH!! Thank you.
I have the MK1 and well yep, perfect. This new one is oh, so very.
That's it. I'm sold. Getting one of these pronto.
Nice vid guys, been on the fence with this or the 88..
If the pots and faders were on the left and the screen was a little bigger (as it should be at that price) I'd definitely buy this board.
so glad i stumbled cross this one
I donât feel so much the noob any more. Thanks for this video, you guys are funny without trying!
In 2020 just picked up my first arturia second hand.
Informative and having this Ali G knockoff adds a bit of eye-rolling humour. Just bought the Keylab88 MKll and overjoyed.
I think I am obsessed with these Arturia key labs at this point xD
Great video đđđ¶
Can you read minds? I just yesterday thought, that i needed a good review of it. Very helpful for my decision about buying it
Got mine three days ago.....in white.....It's my second Arturia keyboard , love it, everything i expected and more.
@@lalaelien Well, to be honest, if not perfect, like a real piano they are pretty descent. I actually like the feel. Without knowing how much is too hard, I think I know what you mean. But I think those are just "hard" enough. It's a nice instrument, that's for sure a bit expensive, but I don't regret that investment.
Jack's beard is so bad ass it seems like he's no longer the same person.
Also : this now belongs to my shopping list.
He is trying to be Gaz Williams, his hero.
Im grabbing the Keylab88 Mk2. Just released a few weeks ago, you should do a review on that as well.
This would be perfect to add to my hybrid software/modular set up. I have a keystep for my modular, but thatâs really small. I have an oxygen 49 for my computer, but it only has USB midi. This looks like it has CV, MIiDI, and USB.
My midi controller just died, and i love the look of this thing. As for the analog lab...im into sound design and genuinely enjoy the challenge, but there are some sounds only a rompler can imitate. Would like to see this in a 73 key version. Probably wont happen.
25:11 that sounded so good
I want this so bad. I want this and my MPC 2000 to be the center of my synth universe lol.
I'm very interested in getting one of these Arturia Keylab 61 MkII midi controller keyboards for my little home music studio, I have an Akai MPK49 that I bought second-hand from my local Cash Converters store and I've been experiencing glitchy performance issues with it while using it with my Daw software, tried everything I could think of to fix it, but had no luck, apparently lots of other Akai MPK49 owners have experienced the same glitchy performance issues as I have so it appears to be a common problem.
I lust after this machine.
I just took my new black beast out of its box. đ
How does this works while you are not just playing but you are adding tracks, adding instruments/effects/VST on a track and handle the scrubbing/takes? Composing at this point is something that could benefit if this keyboard is able to control all the basics of the DAW, so you can fully be hands on without touch the mouse and keyboard
I just got the keylab 49 mk ii, but the knobs are really jumpy. A quick look online and lots of people having the exact same promblem and arturia have offered no solution. Recording smotth automation is impossible. any ideas?
19:24 yeaaa!!!! Long live the Buchla FOREVER!!!
27:10 Scratches beard while imagining all the possibilities! haha so cute
cute is NOT the word for it. im in love. hahaha.
I used this and it's satisfying
I got mine yesterday and i have to say the keybed feels realy nice not stif or spongy at all.
I have a real keyboard in my livingroom Yamaha psr serie that costed me 4 years ago twice as much,
and i can tell you this feels way better. I use Reaper and works perfect. Oh and not to forget Analog 4
with 7000 presets.
Since we have only 8 physical knobs, how do I access another bank of knobs just like I can do it in Minilab MK2?
I'm interested in getting one of these. But with my band I use programming and midi to switch my guitar tones. Would this be good for live performance too?
âMad pleasure pro, wickedâ
Love that
sidebar - what is the make and model of the studio desk behind you? I really want to get one
How about a review of the new 88 key, with the hammer action? Compared to fp-10, fp-30 etc?
I have both. The FP-30 definitely feels nicer.
2:59 Let the man speak dang đ€Ł
What type of sound were they playing in the beginning.
Thanks Guys,
wich Personal do you prefer: the Arturia Mk2 49 Keylab or the Native Komplete Kontrol MK2 S 49
Hello brother, my MacBook has a thunderbolt 4 port, what type of cable i need to connect arturia keylab 61 mk2 ?
I love Arturia, I use both hardware and software synths they make, but most integrated MIDI keyboard ever is Nektar Panorama.
Does this have scale mode ? Like you pick the key of the song and it gives you thenotes in the scale?
oh yeah batman lol i'm sold XD It's a really nice midi controller. Just with they would added the gate input next to the cv input.
does it have a Main Tuning / Global Pitch function?
what's the discount on VCollection with the KL 61
Hi. Can I use this midi controller cv output and connect it to my synth midi input?
I'd like to use 2 separate midi connections.
can I connect like this, or would it be better to use the midi connection of the midi controller with my synth, and connect another midi cable from the synth output to my soundcard?
Keylab mk2 or NovationSLmk3 isnt the SL mk 3 all over this?
I ordered a arturia keylab mark 2 .61key. Over a month ago.....eta. Late april
Does this run without latency in Logic if I run it straight through USB? Or should I buy a new interface that offers midi? I just ordered this bad boy and was curious.
does this have the same functionality as the keystep?
I bought the Arturia MKII 49 and I don't want to run the power through my laptop do they sell a seperate wall charger + usb cable solution or a power adapter ?
is this one good for playing on stage??
34:28 what is this for genre where he is playing the melody from? It's very relaxing and I want to see if there is more out there I like. Can anyone let me know?
The previous Keylabs had keys made of mush. MKII is a most welcome upgrade in this department
what would you compare the keybed to with current midi keyboards? is it as good as the Komplete Kontrol Mk2 49/61?
@@vatolegato I've only tried the previous Keylab version. All of the new Novation, Kontrol, Arturia and Nektar stuff is looking pretty good but I doubt I'll ever have the opportunity to play them. Honestly, any keys will do--even the mushy stuff--for big chords. But if you've got a ripping solo that requires flashy dexterity and good key response, watch out!
Funny I've never found that to be the case but I guess people have different ways of feeling keyboards.
I find the Keylab 61 Mk 1 pretty fast.
vatolegato was thinking the same thing. Iâve got a ton of Maschine extensions, kontakt complete etc. I got an Komplete a61 demo but had to return it because of a dead key. I LOVED the led bed. Extremely solid. But Iâm looking into this now. Iâve got the original laboratory 49 on my desk bet the keys are not like the a61 Komplete
Oh snap I knew I recognized the voice. Been listening to âWhy we bleepâ all day before this! Didnât realize he worked for arturia. Explains why I like him so much.
Is there a way to install a music stand on the back like on the 88 version?
How do I connect this to studio monitors. The jack is currently used by a guitar cable. It also has options XLR (one at a time.) Can I use a Y connector. Is this only USB out? Is there a USB to 3/4. I also have a PC interface. Prefer not to have to add a mixer.
Hello, is it possible to play thé bass notes of à piano with thé pads and thé other with thé keys ? I awnsear me if i should tape à 88 mkII but i think i World probable do thé same with a 61 an thé pads because i am not à great piano player... tank you.
"Stil fun! I got to grab a knob and it did something" 26:47
I bought one. the built quality is the best on the market.
You actually listened to every vst ever made? This is a midi controller. Sure it comes with Analog Lab which has a few hundred patches. But it literally is a controller. How can you talk about "the sounds"? Spend $30 on a VST. Or download Dexed for free. It's a controller. Use it with omnisphere.
@@WarrenPostma every patch on analog lab is very usable, but sometimes i would prefer use others plugins like keyscape or maybe layer them both
of course you can!
I have some questions about it can you use it externally without connecting it to a daw does it have its own internal sounds
No, it does not.
How would you compair the functionalities to the novation sl mk3?
Novation SL MK3 has a sequencer, offers much better control over Ableton Live, has better control over multiple analog synths, has display per knob and more assignable buttons to your DAW and a whole lot of lights (which may be irritating)! Arturia has white color and Keylab. As for me, keyboard player/producer, I'd stick with Arturia cuz it's cheaper and has the best digital (but real) synth collection on the market.
The Novation looks like it will be a total creativity drain as you master the beast. The Arturia looks awesome on a million levels. I donât use Ableton Live, just Pro Tools and for PT nothing seems to come close to Arturia mk2. Mine should ship tomorrow!
I like the layout of the keylab a lot more, but to be honest not putting a sequencer/arp in the keylab was a major mistake of arturias. If they had done that they would hands down have the best controller on the market. Novation beat them to it, and now it's basically a matter of whether you're more daw oriented or synth oriented. For synth heads, the SLmk3 beats the keylab every day. For daw heavy composers, it's still a pretty damn close tie. But I think the keylab pulls ahead slightly, although that's mostly due to my personal preference for the user layout and aesthetic. Because of that, I think the SLmk3 beats the keylab if they go head to head. That's said, my keylab is beautiful and I love it. Plus you get some really incredible plugins with it, so that's a major bonus
@@fredmanteghian5913 I was tossing up between Keylab and Komplete Kontrol and decided on the Arturia because of its Protools support as well as the vastly superior amount of real time controls and those drum pads.
Lenti Lenko now that Iâve had it over a year, I will tell you the positives are the keyboard response which is simply wonderful for what in use it for. I love the Arturia synths and have purchased the full collection 6 and now 7 of synths. For this the KeyLab MK2 works fantastically. The pads I spent time programming to put my favorite articulations for kick, snare, hi hats and Toms where I wanted them, but I find the keyboard a nice way to play drums (BFD3). My only regret and it is very mild, is I got the black version which looks great but sometimes itâs hard to read the labels. White may have been a better choice. Either way, love the keyboard and triple love the software.
26:02 isn't it like an early nineties sitcom or something?
No. It's Ali G.
I am so freagin' glad that I purchased V-Collection 7! I've been on board since V-Collection 3.
Alex and Jack: I own an older Arturia "Analog Experience - the Laboratory" 61-key MIDI keyboard w/ after touch. V-Collection 7 recognizes it and it is apparently mapped in the software? Are there any advantages to me switching to the KeyLab Mk2 keyboard??? FYI, I'm not all that into using pads, so having less of these is not important to me. Thanks for your help! Cheers!
Hello, how are you? Help me please, Roland Juno DS61 or Arturia keylab MK2 61? which one should i buy, please. help me
Check them out at the shop
Okay, Where is the audio outputs, On the computer ??

I didnât count but I noticed big time!
@@tronlady1 You mean Ali G?
I come here for Jackâs wit and awesome keyboard skills. I understand this fella wants to show the depth of his device, but a good way to sell me something is to let me hear Jack play it the way I wish could.
I made it into a drinking game but blacked out somewhere before the end.

Has anyone tried using this with Komplete Kontrol or Kontakt? Will it navigate patches and do the rotary encoders map?
The NI keyboards are very different beasts to these Arturia ones. I was in a big dilemma as to which one to get because I use both Komplete 11 Ultimate and V Collection 7. I like the idea of the 2 screens on the NI instruments but the Arturia has way more real time controllers including those drum pads. It also automaps to more popular DAWs including, crucially to me, Protools. NI have really done a great job with their GUI and the way those 8 knobs interact with the dual screens. However, IMHO it's still no match for the 9 faders, 9 knobs, 16 drum pads etc offered by the Arturia, not to mention the external CV control for external modular synths. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either, but I think that the Arturia will be better for the long term! I mention this after investing time and money into NI Kore 2 which NI decided to stop supporting. That honestly left a very sour taste in my mouth with regards to the long term support that NI would provide for these instruments. If you're more into playing presets, perhaps NI is the better option thanks to NKS support and all those Arturia instruments are also fully supported. For more concise sound design, superior real time controls and excellent control for a larger number of DAWs , the Arturia is the better choice IMHO. Both of these are great in their own ways. Decisions decisions!!!! đđ
Can anyone suggest a model of sustain pedal that will work well with this midi controller?
Yes, Iâm wondering too? Pls help.
heres a no0b question
i get that its a midi controller, but can one of those aux jacks be used to plug into an external amplifier or speaker?
can i play this without a computer
nope, is a midi controller lol
the setup is so weird not having a computer in front of them, and them having to keep turning back
Hah, all the better for looking at you in the video! But for a home setup, absolutely - Arturia design this so that you'll be sat in front of your DAW/KeyLab and can look at the GUI while you control via the keyboard.
Can this be used for live performances?
With a rack modular synthesizer or with an interface, a laptop and a vsti, yes. On its own, no
Could someone help..my midi values are changing automatically..without me touching
Poltergeist
I wish I could pay someone to come set it up for me!
You just plug in one usb cable and select your surface in the DAW.
I'd do that for 40/hr + travel
is it a good keyboard to use as a organ keyboard? I'd like to connect it to a nord electro
Absolutely. I grew up with pipe organs and grand pianos (4th gen. pianist - thanks Mum!) -- the keyboard has a nice feel. Definitely not "fully weighted" as a Steinway or Yamaha, but pleasant enough and quite usable. It has both MIDI and CV/Gate connections in addition to USB, so you should be able to connect it to external modules. Love mine and can recommend it without hesitation. If you're lucky enough to live close to a real music shop, stop by and audition it. Alternatively, Amazon or Sweetwater are usually good about buy and try and return if it isn't working well for you.
Good luck!
Hi, now that it has been a year more - I am looking for a beginner MIDI piano that will be portable and allowed in economy class hand carry airlines specifically from saudi or canada to philippines, my country.
I want something to learn with as a beginner and will last a lifetime - same with roland fp30x but I want it to be way lighter - either synth or real weighted piano. Pls help â€
I am looking forward to buying this Arturia mkii black 61 keys color to be shipped to saudi arabia khobar.
I just bought roland fp30x from a music store yesterday - but i will return it back because good review videos I watched for asturia mkii â€ïž
I never played piano but I am really willing to learn.
1.) One also concern is - if you take this piano to your gigs - what is the most portable piano stand for the arturia mkii 61 keys - that can be modified to carry apple laptop too?
If not please recommend the best/sturdy portable keyboard stand & separate laptop stand - both should be sturdy and easy to carry. Please refer yravel cases too for the keyboard stand and laptop stand.
2.) Changing that built-in battery how hard is it to replace? Is it easily replaceable in any battery shops? Or the charger?
3.) For travel - please refer to me a hard case & a softcase but padded in case i can take it as a carry on luggage.
4.) What other accessories should I buy together with the keyboard including speakers and such because i do not know well. Assume that I have this keyboard asturia mkii 61 keys and an macbook laptop - what else would i need to buy to complete my initiial setup and that O can play and learn?
With much anticipation and excitement,
Isagani
I love the personality of this guy in the right so much...
How is its integration with cubase
What about Propellerhead Reason 10?
How does this work? Do you need a computer program or Pro Tools and external speakers for it to actually work? Or does Aturia have speakers?
Arturia*
It's not a workstation, arranger or keyboard/synth. It's just a controller; so it doesn't produce sounds on its own. You need a modular Rack or an interface, a laptop and some vsts to produce sounds.
I got my Arturia Minilab MK2 a few weeks ago and never been happier with the integration with Analog Lab V and Abelton Live lite 11.
Great review.
I will eventually upgrade once I get comfortable.
It comes with these magnetic stick ons which go with your DAW... Unless you're a Linux user, where you're SOL if your DAW is Rosegarden.
How do you rate the aftertouch on this? I bought the white 61 key version, but the aftertouch is very jumpy - goes almost straight from 0 to 100% with just a few intermediate steps, and the curve of recorded AT events looks like a square wave, compared to the AT curve, generated by my Deepmind 12 keyboard which is almost sine wave looking like and with much more intermediate steps. The aftertouch on KeyLab is almost unusable and the different aftertouch curves don't introduce any difference.
You can make a user preset with a modified aftertouch
@@mastermelardoz Thank you for replying! How is that done? I returned the KeyLab and got a NI KK S61 MKII instead, which has better aftertouch although still not as good as Deepmind's, but I would like to try that on my Keystep which is also too jumpy.
@@kristianborisov5928wow. I did the complete opposite. Funny how truly subjective these things are, huh? The KK mk2 is a good board though. But a much prefer the Keylab mk2
Can one trigger the chord-pads from an external hardware-sequencer via midi-in, so that the chord sequences play on its own while one plays the melody on the keys?
Why would you trigger a midi controller? It literally doesn't contain any sounds.
@@WarrenPostma ... Instaed one playing the pads with the fingers as shown in the video, can an external sequencer automate this?
Think about that. An external sequencer outputs MIDI SIGNALS. These go to the VST or a rack mount synth module, or to another keyboard that has a sound engine in it, NOT THE MIDI controller. A midi controller has some of the same exterior features as a synthesizer but it has no engine and you can't trigger it via external midi signals.
Triggering a MIDI controll would do what exactly? It's a controller it makes no sounds. I think you need to google "what is a midi controller and is it a synthesizer itself or does it make other things make noise".
You may as well try to watch TV on a remote control. Remote controls turn on tvs. Then you watch the TV. Midi controllers trigger synths, real or virtual. Sequencers, same. Hope you got that now?
If you want to use an external sequencer, attach that to your PC, run your PC as a midi listener, and get your PC triggered by your hardware sequencer.
But why do you need to do THAT when you already have a PC and a DAW with a much more full featured sequencer in your PC DAW than in any external hardware sequencer?
If you have a love for rube goldberg machines, I guess, go for it? But are you comprehending me here? Any sequencer can trigger single notes and chords without needing the controller in the loop.
@@WarrenPostma many thx. Its for DAW-less performance in user-mode; comparing the sequencer functionality of novation sl mk3 keyboard-controller
I really really doubt you can trigger a controller to be phrase playback sequencer but if you find that buried in any controller manuals do let folks know here. It's a controller for your DAW. Use it with a daw. For dawless workflow just trigger the chord and phrase sequences using the chord / phrase recording and playback features OF YOUR SEQUENCER. Or go back to using a DAW, and forget dawless. Maybe get a more live friendly daw like ableton?
I have one of these bad boys for use with Presonus Studio One Pro.
How do you like using it with studio one?
How much?
With the DAW , mainstage 3 wasn't mentioned WHY!!!!?
O'Neill Benson... Main what!!!?
Anyone have this and find the lack of an arpeggiator a down side? That's the one glaring omission that's stalled me from buying one yet.
I'm confused as to whether or not the software that comes with this can be used with Logic Pro X?
Yes, it can.
How do you get the analog lab 4 software to work with Logic Pro X? I can hear the sound but Logic Pro doesnât transfer over the plug-in or software
