We only had 2 good seasons under BK. Those were the anomalies, tamu was never on an uptrend under BK

I thought you were actually going to go into "what happened" and not just a recap of their seasons. The biggest issue from my recollection was that the talent really came into the program the year after Billy Kennedy offered Avery Johnson Jr. The son of the former San Antonio Spurs legend and future Alabama HC was not highly regarded, but A&M had some issues at the PG position which they never really solved and offered him a scholarship. Johnson and his father had deep roots in the elite Texas basketball circuits and players from that amazing class you mentioned decided to join him. Everything could have gone well, but Avery Johnson decided to take a job at Alabama. His son transferred and Alabama became the hot team for young recruits. In addition, Billy Kennedy was diagnosed with Parkinson's. Instead of retiring, he tried his best to keep the program going, but other SEC and Big 12 coaches used his illness to "negative" recruit against the program.
I was in school at A&M for all of our good years under BK. Beating Kentucky with the buzzer beater and going on to win the SEC regular season title was my favorite sports memory of college. I'll take our football team being good now as a trade off but I would love for our basketball team to get back to where it was.
Man I thought this was going to be about the Gillispie Aggies when we had Acie Law, Josephus Jones, Donald Sloan, Carter, and all those guys.

@@ScottFisherCFB Great now I feel old, but that was a great time to watch basketball Law Vs Durant. Our Sweet 16 match up with UCLA where we nearly beat them (something about UCLA and not closing) but I did forget how good we were early in the Kennedy years. I hope he is doing well.

Yeah I wouldn’t even consider the time period with Caruso/Kennedy. Video about Gillespie would’ve been worthwhile. That’s when A&M basketball became something and if he hadn’t taken the Kentucky job who knows how much more success they would have had.

Early returns aren’t great. Flagg has been kind of a disappointment
I know you said you are young, so I get it. But A&M was up and down under Kennedy. The real story, is going from 0-16 in conference in 2003 under Melvin Watkins, to NIT, then NCAA tourney with a win over Syracuse and last second loss to LSU in the round of 32, to one of the best teams in the country in 2006 with a last second bunny missed that gave the game away. We were talented enough to be final four that year. Then we had Mark Turgeon who kept the NCAA tourney streak alive but never got over the hump. Other than the two good years under Kennedy, he set the program back and now Buzz Williams is having to rebuild.

To be fair, A&M has never been a real basketball school. Loved watching Caruso, House, Hogg, and Davis as a student but Kennedy wasn’t exactly the best coach on earth.

Avery Johmson was primarily responsible for that great recruiting class. He was then suddenly hired by bama. I think he wanted to, in some way, to be part of A&M. His son was on the team. Kennedy's salary was being paid by a bma and it made him untouchable. I wish Johnson could have been around to try to recruit another class from DFW area. Also Stansbury left and Kennedy was again fighting a losing battle in recruiting. It took someone like Scott Woodward to stand up to brass and fire Kennedy. Big reason why Woodward left. Brass was starting to fight back. Bma's want control if it's their money. I think Williams will do great. Glad we got him before Woodward left.

Also assistant Kyle Keller, who was instrumental in recruiting for them, became the head coach at SFA, and his success at recruiting at SFA along with the downfall of A&M is another indicator of his value when he was with the Aggies. Glad my Lumberjacks got him.

Is it fair to call Jamal Jones a zero star recruit? He was recruited to play at Ole Miss originally. Other than that, an interesting vid.
He was ranked a 3 star on 247 Sports, and he was a top 500 recruit in 2021.
