Just bought a knock off tiny klash. Don’t feel bad what so ever. First of all it’s $100 and I get that a ton of time, effort, and research go into making them, but I still think that may be a little steep. More importantly if I wanted to get my hands on one for a $100 I couldn’t. To get a decent pattern it’s more like $180 up.

@@Frostin_Austin can you do a video of your lures of choice year around. And something on weather conditions. I fish three PFAs in my area of Dublin and Eastman ga, and they get a lot of pressure. I have a hard time finding bass and getting bites. It’s hit and miss. I think I have the answer ( slow down and use finesse baits) but like to see what you have to say on the matter. And lastly, I would love to start a bait shop in Laurans co Ga but I have no money lol. There is a bait shop here but they are rapping folks since there is no academy or bass pro in Dublin. But one day I can. God bless brother.

No offense intended, KVD did say he was using a duo spy bait. The stunna isn't a knock off unlike the Lucky Strike.... it has different action (sinking) than mega bass, and FYI Hank Cherry was already under contract with Berkely when he won using the mega bass. In fact the reason he wasn't using the Berkley Cutter jerkbait was its poor castability. He went in and they discontinued the whole cutter line and they redesigned what is now the Stunna. Strike king bought a license to the rage tail paddle design patent - guess what? So did googan. Evergreen aka jackhammer bought a license from z-man to produce their own chatterbait..... so did strike king for the thunder cricket. The true knockoffs aggravates me as well but please inform yourself and point your finger in the right direction because you do have a good channel. Again please take my comments as informative not a bash because that's what I intended.

Amen to this video!! Wish the industry would get behind this. But Ive been fishing for years and these last couple years Ive caught more fish on the Krackin Kraw, i know nobody wants to believe it but I always try the rage craw first, idk if its the scent or the action of the bait bc the k. kraws are a lot softer than the rage craws they do not last long at all. But I still like the rage craw more bc its Original, 6th sense is knocking off megabass with everything they make and it's weird nobody will talk about it..

Years ago the brand names dominated the pages, now every section leads with the BPS brand and then maybe one page of name brands after the BPS stuff.

If the originator is holding back production and hacking up the price well then someone else can now take advantage and make a knock off for cheaper . What most people don’t realize is these bait drops and unavailability is done on purpose to drive up the cost of the original. Most of these baits are cheap to make and produce but they want $100 - $150 each . Plus now tons of people are buying up to resell on secondary market .

I 100% agree. I have lost so much respect for people in the fishing industry. ICAST this year was a joke. The Berkly Gilly Best of Show. Give me a break. That bait has been around for awhile. But because a popular angler attaches his name to it people go nuts for it like teenage girls do for a boyband. It's one thing to copy and bait (still not cool) but to get an award for copying a bait! that's disgusting. Then to watch " respected " people in the industry suck up saying how innovative this person was to create such a bait. How hard was it to go to Japan and take someone's ideas and hard work. Also, Googan bait are made cheaply on purpose. It's actually a very brilliant marketing move. They were made for their CZcams followers who are from the ages of 10 years old to about 18 years old. They would tell their parents they want to be like their favorite CZcamsr and convince them to buy them. Parents who wanted their kids to go outside would pay any amount of money for these baits just to get little Jonny off the video games. Parents think these guys are famous their baits must be the best not knowing the same thing right beside them cheaper from Strike King. A kids attention span is about five minutes. Sell them at a higher price so you a least get them for a few bucks just incase they loose interest or, if they stick with it they become brand loyal and buy them forever a whatever price you want. Look at the pros they sponsor. It's brilliant absolutely brilliant. Great video..

I 100% agree with you that there is dishonesty and misleading in the industry by pros and reps. $$$$ is driving that and will always….therefore I really don’t pay much attention to any sponsored fisherman or rep when it comes to specific items (lure, line, rod, reel, boat, etc.), but will listen to general knowledge or techniques.
However, as far as the lures. The consumer will always benefit from competition in the industry (even knock offs). There is a fine line between “knock off” and innovative improvements or price point alternatives. However, all of it is industry competition and benefits the consumer with price options and lure options……as long as you know what you are buying and you understand you are not getting a Megabass when you purchase Berkley. If Zaldain markets a googan swimbait is better than Megabass then that will ultimately reveal who he is, but again…don’t listen to someone getting paid when they are talking specific products. Talk to those with experience using the product but doesn’t reap any benefits from it other than more fish in the boat!

Great points, definitely spot on, a lot of copies out there and the originators get swept away. I’ve made lures my entire life, early on survived my Mom after she found out I cut the end off one of the spoons in the kitchen and made a lure out of it. That was almost fifty years ago after seeing a spoon lure in a picture and couldn’t afford to buy one, so I made one and it worked. It’s ok to make them for yourself but if you going to sell them, give credit where it’s due and compensate the originator, that’s the right thing to do. It’s crazy that some of these brands say their the best when they are not.
Is a Megabass 110 an improved knock off of a Old rebel, Rapala or Smithwick. Is a duo realis spybait a sinking devil horse? Most of the Japan brands try to make improved versions of the best out there. The whopper plopper is a knocked off muskie bait that is 40 years old.

There's certainly something to be said about the number of knockoffs. That boils down to price. This past year I started fishing with a Nikko Hellgrammite. A lot of stores won't carry them because they don't want a product that is going to last. They are also $8 for a pack of four, to me they're worth it but to others they probably look overpriced. You never know how something is going to perform until you try but it's kind of hard to try things that are a limited production or are scalped to the bejesus...

Great video. My opinion is the same as yours I wish they would just be honest and show the love to the baits they're really using. As a side note when it comes to Daiwa, I have about 30 rod and reel combos and 100% of the reels are daiwa and 90% of the rods are daiwa. I'm on the water over a hundred times a year and I'm telling you there's nothing that beats a daiwa product for the money. By the way I'm pretty sure it's John Crews who doesn't have a reel sponsor he also uses daiwa.

Bruh big st. Croix fanboy here and similar thing is happening with them, they pretty much made every type of rod you could want under the sun but recently have discontinued quite a few of their rods in their upper and middle tiers and come out with a much smaller and noticeably not as nice rods than what they were previously offering at that price point. Covid kicked this off and it's annoying. Also I don't understand the hate bass guys have for savage gear. A european pike fishing centered company came in and made swimbaits similar to a lot of other pike/musky lures with a much better hook up ratio and just kept expanding into the American market.

Took me a while to realize, but eventually got clued into the goings-on regarding lures and lying about what was used (sometimes) in their tournament win. I understand the need for pro anglers to push the products they are sponsoring, but why lie about what has worked for them in the past? or what the OG's are?

Agree with your perspective, but to be an opposing voice to most of the comments, that's just not how international production works. With few exceptions, pretty much all of these baits are made in the same handful of factories. I get the perspective of the r&d costs, credit to the originator, etc but that's when they need to patent it.
Why don't more patents and patent challenges take place? Because like you said, pretty much everything has been done and most "innovations" are iterative of something else.
All that "look what we innovated" bullshit is marketing. No different than what Apple does. Shitty fact of reality is we have become accustomed to mass availability at affordable prices. Messed up thing is with inflation and all that affordable isn't even that affordable anymore. Anyway, I digress.

I agree man but now in days everyone is just okay with it because they can get the bait cheaper and more available and thats what everyone cares about is spending money and how available it is for them to able to buy the bait over and over. But then don't realize the original company that took the time to invent that product and the money. They put into it to refining the bait Is completely disrespected. An everyone will be like "but is it available and easy to buy, oh how much does it cost", lmao. Just because things aren't easy to get and gonna cost u a little more. Oh well thats part of fishing if u want a certain bait that no one is using. Then a company will come and knock that bait off and then sells it for half the price and people will be happy because it makes it easier to get.

I hear ya, but I’m talking about baits that’s look almost identical and have the same action. A megabass doesn’t look anything like a husky jerk and they have totally different actions. Where the Berkeley stunna looks identical to a megabass and has the same action.

@@Frostin_Austin the stunna sinks. The 110 floats. No matter the depth of the 110, it floats.. Hank cherry won the classic on a 110 with heavier berkley fusion hooks. after investigating the brandon palaniuk claims you made, he was sponsored by daiwa in 2018, and lost his sponsorship at the end of 2017 with abu garcia. Its great you want to sell daiwa products and all. But that is all you are doing. Its not the verified the "Best Equipment" simply because one pro angler uses their reels and not even using their best equipment, Daiwa Rods. Its just a bogus claim to sell what you are most confident in.
