Operating the 922 Caterpillar Wheel Loader to Get Ready for Winter July 23 2024

- it was an all day job bouncing around in the 1969 caterpillar traxcavator wheel loader with the pallet forks on getting ready for winter since it is only a couple months away. today's events seen all loose parts tracks being put up on the steel boat dock so they can be found in 4 feet of snow. then all items on pallets were sorted to the proper storage trailers so they can be found and brought in to the heat shop when it is time to work on those items. the most important thing we did was line up the 5 cats so they are in line plus on wood so they do not freeze to the ground. once frozen to the ground they are very hard to move when it is their turn in the woodstove heated shop. the project cats are the TD-9 IH known as Opp, then the TD-9 IH crawler known as Zhoda, then the D6 9U cat with the extra wide pads known as Big Foot, then the D7 4T cat known as Jack plus the D6 9U cat known as Roller-Less who is upside down to get rollers installed. thansk

It seems strange to me to be getting ready for winter in July. I 'm still working on getting ready for summer. Thanks for showing us how it's done. yes winter for us is not very far away so we have to get ready. if we are not ready then it costs 4 times as much to do anything in the snow thansk

Good morning from Cape Cod ⛵ you got everything lined up nicely, now you need some of those little flag banners the string across the front row of your caterpillar sales lot 😀 the loader that you depend upon in almost every video I've watched seems to be in need of some attention Joey 😞 no brakes, can't steer when it gets warm, what else needs to go wrong before you get to it. I figured I'd mention it in case you run out of stuff to do and get bored around there 😉😂 Oh and Xena, nice to see your smiling face again today 😀 thanks for all the hard work you guys put into bringing such awesome content 👍✌️🇺🇲🇨🇦
the loader is actually not worth fixing, i have tossed so much money at the machine over the years for the brakes to only work a couple of weeks then quit. after i bought the machine for $15,000.00 in 1993, i sent it south tot he caterpillar dealer who charged me $18,000.00 to fix the brakes with everything being new. 2 weeks later the brakes quit and caterpillar told me that is was an old machine so not their problem. the steering is the steering column itself with water getting in the horn button then creeping down to rust in side to get it to bind. we have been soaking it down and slowly getting better. as i get older the loader is being used less and less and we did buy a forklift to replace it but that perkins motor was junk and never started. thansk

I still think that loader should have a name. Despite its problems, it still has lots of Grunt.
I've asked before about the transmission, now may I ask about the steering? I did not know there was such a thing as coolers for steering until I inherited my present wheels (from the divorce). The car has power steering, and I have never seen a vehicle prior to this one (built 2000) that had or needed a PS cooler. Of course the OEM one began to leak. I have an updated OEM cooler fabri-cobbled into where it can get some air flow, but unlikely to get hit by debris.
Perhaps The Loader needs a line cooler to help keep the temp of the steering fluid down? They are nothing more than what we remumble as oil coolers or transmission fluid coolers (before they put them in with the radiator). I guess you could EngiNerd an elec fan on to one to force airflow past the fins, but my guess is that The Loader doesn't generally run all day so merely having an auxiliary cooler somewhere in the power steering lines would help somewhat with cooling the PS fluid.
All that said, I don't believe you have ever shown The Loader getting any love, other than parking it inside. Perhaps it's coming due for an oil change and a grease job? Let's show the old girl a little love, and no, I'm not talking about the ex-wife.

May I suggest the name be "Stretch Armstrong"
the loader has always been known as the loader for some reason. the steering column is binding because water got down and formed a little rust. we have been lubing it up and slowly getting better. the loader is not worth spending money on it since it gets used less and less each year. thansk

King Joey how much hp does the TD18 have vrs D6 9u
they are about the same weight but the D6 9U is low to the ground and will get hung up in deep snow. the TD-18 are know for being able to snow shoe through deep snow with higher ground clearance thansk
