10 Minute Demonology Warlock Guide | Cataclysm Classic 2024

- This is everything I could fit into a concise video about Cata Demo Lock. Hope you enjoy:
FULL prebis set: sixtyupgrades....
If you want to use a mastery set before combat:
1. Mastery set on 6s before prepull
2. Soulburn + Soul Harvest 5s before Pull
3. 1-2s before Pop mastery trinkets + meta + prepot
4. Swap gear back the final second
5. Leap into melee or move while casting in

/use Volcanic Potion
/use Blood Fury
/use 13
/use 14
/cast !Metamorphosis
/equipset MAIN (name of your set goes here)
NO mastery set before combat:
1. Soulburn
2. Soul Harvest
3. Prepot (Precast Incin)
If you do not need 3 shards on a fight then you can skip 1/2 and just prepot + precast incinerate
1. Fel Storm/On Use Trinkets/(Elements if necessary)
2. Incinerate/Shadowbolt for 5% crit (Skip if precasted)
3. Demon Soul (Felguard) + Meta ( if not prepoped, can macro together with racials)
4. Immo, Bane, Corr
5. Felhunter insta summon while Soulburn is still active
6. Hand of Guldan
7. (In melee) Shadowflame
8. (In melee) Immo Aura
9. Doomguard with as many procs as possible at anytime in this opener. Blood Fury + Trinkets last ~15s so probably around step 10 is when I normally pop it. Large chunk of your damage.
Advanced Tips:
1. Doomguard snaps SP, haste RATING, crit, master (as demo)
2. Demon Soul mid fight (we HARD SUMMON Felguard) for felhunter uptime instantly after.
3. Positioning in melee, ports op charge op
4. Felstorm opener only with 2+ targets, otherwise better to get felhunter out asap.

Profs: Tailoring/Engi for T11
"Impending Doom" talent has 15% change with Incin, Soul Fire, and Shadow Bolt to reduce the Meta cd by 15s, making your cds not align sometimes.

Great guide! I've been wanting to get into Demo - but it feels like a spec with a V.High skill ceiling and it's been frustrating to not feel I am getting the results I wanted from it. This has helped me a lot to clear some things up!
Its satisfactory once you can get your ducks in a row and figure out where your fingers are supposed to move on the opener, the maintenance is the easy part in my opinion. You'll continue to pick it up quick

This is exactly what I was looking for. A detailed step by step for the rotation, I was pulling SHIT DPS my first raid, horrible, cause I had no idea how to effectively execute even after scouring the WoWhead guides.
Can you give some tips on heroic dungeon rotations and AoE for packs of 3+?
on ~3 I usually put immolate on all the mobs + corr + agony if it can tick the entire duration. Single target into one, 4+ just hellfire, shadowflame, felstorm.

There's 1 thing you didn't mention! Shadowflame has haste breakpoint as well, and you need 1007 rating for an additional tick. That's not too hard to achieve so it's a small thing that might be worth keeping in mind when looking at you pre-raid bis

but its 1007 rating without raid buffs? I have 1251 (13,06% with selfbuff) and get 4 ticks on the puppet.
@@boffboffautopflege7957 yeah it's without raid buffs. I don't remember exact value for an actual tick to happen, but you need 8% more haste (5% raid buff + 3% dark intent). Wowhead guide definitely mentions it.

@ItsPummel Question: What are the Pros/Cons of the Shaowbolt vs Incinerate playstyle? is there a breakpoint based on Haste/iLv I should be looking to? Or do they perform fairly similarly and it's personal Pref?
Question: Do ALL Dots - Corruption/Immolate/Bane of Doom or Agony all snapshot our stats in the way you describe Doomguard doing? I.E. Should I be aiming to pop all my Procs/Pots/Cds before applying Dots - and similarly aiming to refresh them AFTER I pop buffs like Synapse Springs? or do these DoTs scale dynamically and not care if I had the buff before/after cast?
Sbolt sims slightly higher, most people run sbolt at this point including myself. It's a little more fun too with the procs baked in.
Dots take in SP/haste they don't really snapshot crit like they used to. I would put up inital dots with procs, but I wouldn't overwrite a current agony/corr before it runs out with more procs, but doom is very worth it since it lasts so long. Merfin has a good SP doom snapshotter. TLDR no to refreshing besides doom. Dots do not scale dynamically, but in the case of immolate when it gets refreshed by hand of guldan the new immolate will take your current SP. Hope that helps.

Double check that you are looking at spell hit% and not melee, you have spell/ranged/melee hit that all show on the character panel now

Shadowbolt or incinerate as main filler though? And why? I like numbers. I hear SB but see you using incinerate filler it seems. Which is what I've been doing but thinking about switching glyphs too SB build. I think its same talent tho right
The sim says SB is better, but in my head the ease with incin molten core procs + 5% incin dmg as a glyph is better and feels smoother. I think the difference is almost negligible and the sim assumes perfect (4%) shadow trance uptime which I think is unrealistic, but might be higher on multi-target fights. Basically sam talents except you take imp Corr instead of Bane.

Thanks dude, one question I have, is in decimation I understand you still use incinerate on MC proc, but do you still use Shadow Flame on CD?
I would still use it as of right now, especially since its one of the few spells you can move and cast while you re-position. Maybe there's a threshold where the dot isn't worthwhile to use anymore, but it feels right atm.
It also, more importantly, counts towards Shadow Bite damage.

I only use sbolt filler now, my opener has changed, my mastery set has updated, etc. Was planning on making an updated video when I got back from my 3 week international trip.

Also, I got trinkets that proc haste, some proc INT. Which ones actually matter for snapping abilities? I only ask, cause you brought up the word 'nuance'

Didn’t hand of guldan because I was monologuing about doom and wasn’t paying attention (can’t talk and play apparently)
Int are the trinkets that matter for snapping Doomguard/abilities, haste trinkets might not bring you to certain breakpoints and immolate refreshes with hand
Incinerate filler is simpler and shadowbolt spec adds nightfall procs that’s about it. Shadowbolt spec sims (last time I checked) about 50 dps more than incinerate. Didn’t think it was worth an explanation because it a rounding error when we sim 30k+ damage, play how you want is my mantra.

The haste soft caps appear to be for goblin only with the 1% racial.
Should be noted, the SB build is just straight up better than the incinerate build. It's not a single target verse cleave scenario as previously thought.
The sim isn't 100% complete, but as of right now this is very correct and a good take.
if using shadowbolt instead of incinerate spec, why molten core talent? am i missing something, why not aura of foreboding and max out fel synergy instead
Molten core talent is worth in the sbolt spec because it is extra damage compared to the aura and fel synergy.

if you use sbolt use the corruption glyph + bane talent (destro tree), if you want to use incinerate filler use incin glyph + corruption talent (aff tree). You can use either
Do I reapply my dots at 1 second only if I have trinket to go with it ? Or never clip dots ?
I'd let my dot expire if its stronger than the new application, but if you want more dot uptime and cannot time that perfectly, I would clip my dot in advance.
Ex: You apply Doom with DMC: Volcano + Tendrils and it has 15s left, but you have no trinket procs. I would let it expire then reapply it immediately, hopefully enough time for new procs.
OR
You apply Doom with only Power Torrent (weapon enchant) and its at 14s, but you see volcano is about to come off cd. I'd wait for the volcano proc up to the last second to reapply.
There's a lot of different scenarios that could happen with each dot and I imagine someone somewhere will eventually make a WA letting you know if you should clip or not similar to corruption snapping in wrath. Hope this helps.

@@Ranieri69er I think aff is situationally insane like on twin dragons, haven't really tried destro out that much ngl, but from streams and such it looks like it can be worthwhile. Locks in a weird spot rn where everything can be used, just play what feels right

I didn't plan on making a mastery prepull set. When youre doing heroics just grab cloth pieces that have more mastery than the ones you have, if theres enough people asking I'll give in and probably make one. The Grim Batol heroic agi/mastery on use is probably the most important early piece for it.

Hi, i swapped to Demo warlock for cata, and i usually do well on other classes, however im only avg 50 ish in cata, on a decently geared warlock. i feel like im following rotation and opener fine, but i just cant push my parses higher. my activity is very high, i feel like im missing something crucial. any idea?

@@imbacookiemonster, cata parses are done differently so heroic is it’s own, normal it’s own. Then 10/25. Depending on the mode will determine how difficult it is to parse in it. Raid dps is big as well a good raid dps can push your purples to oranges will kill time, also kill strategy like maloriak skipping green phase will always net a lower parse (as of right now)

I may be super dense but why do you soulburn and soul harvest off the rip if you already have all your shards?
Soulburn eats 1 shard, if you don't soul harvest you will go into the fight with only 2. If the fight is quick this is ok, but some fights are longer like sinestra where you probably will want all 3. You can also grab them off mobs spawning. Soul harvest is not mandatory.

How to Get The dots to get extra time when you dot The target before The dot goes out? You do that on bane of doom.
If you re-dot on the last tick of the dot that last tick will roll into the next one. Doom is 1 minute, so if you refresh the doom itll be 1 minute + whatever the duration until the next tick would be.
Does the haste reduce Unstable Affliction ticks aswell for Affliction Warlocks? And are the softcaps the same for all 3 warlock specs?
For corruption its the same, UA is 9.9% haste for the 1st tick and almost 30% haste for the 2nd so you'd probably just go for the first. The stat priority is a bit different for aff as mastery is not as prominent. I have plans to do a 10 minute affliction guide as well, but between the launch and the day job this week I won't have time until the weekend.

hand of guldan will refresh Immo, corr I'd refresh if you can get the full duration as of rn, doom you can set up to run the last 1:00 of the fight and not worry about it. Spam soulfire, and when you get MC procs use MC (incinerate)
Maybe in high end raiding its only 40% some one pulls before 0. but in my exp its more like 60% of the time u cant do the prepull rotation, so i gave up on it. xD
whats that adon to see cds on ur dots? Atm i dont use any of such addons and man, do i fuck up my rotation often.
Also, why use soulburn before soul harvest? It gets on cd and i cant swap out my pet.
I do the meta swapping now like 3-5s before and never get caught out. The dots are a weakaura from Ahlaundoh, can find it on his twitch

Yeah its simming higher right now, in practical use the shadow trance is a ~4% proc on average for a fight. Incinerate spec is easier to use. I will probably try shadow bolt since it sims higher and see how I feel with it.
How important is hit cap when raiding? If you have 11%, and goes to hit cap 17%. How much damage increase will you see?
I have right now around 9k gs and close to full epic and my meta with regular gear is around 58 % extra damage. How much % can i get with full max Mastery gear? Is 70 % extra damage possible? Otherwise it seems not to be worth if its just like around 5 % extra damage
5% is a lot, I don't know how much full 372 mastery set vs P1 bis gives you but if you can get 5% dam on pull with a button for 30s it seems worthwhile

Depends on number of targets, 2-3 I'd multi dot with immolate + corr + doom (agony on off targets), do single target rotation into the priority. More than that you can use hellfire + shadowflame + immo aura.

The sim says ~1500 dps in the random sim I did, but the sim is still in alpha, I like the incinerate atm.

Your video layout and presentation are great however could you do a video for those of us that are not min max inclined. Sort of your everyday wow player who wants to do well but have fun doing so. You know the average player doing dungeons and chill progression raiding. I respect the level at which you play and its incredible what is possible but all the snapshoting and pet twisting is a little overwhelming
What did you have in mind? I'm open to this sort of idea, but usually when I make something like this its more thinking top down, not starting lower, if that makes sense. If you aren't min max inclined you can keep felguard out the whole time and not use a mastery set, but I think the concepts are still important to know just in case you ever venture into wanting to do those things later down the line maybe you get bored of the tier or something. Reply to this with an idea though maybe I run with it. Right now I'm a bit overwhelmed prepping 3 chars for week 1 raiding but I want to make some more vids after.
So from a perspective of someone swapping to the spec for the first time and has empty action bars, just spitballing here but maybe the abilities you will be using the most ordered generally, next layout the dps cooldowns and when you personally would tend to use them and when not to use the for example common mistakes made by novice players new to the spec. Any helpful macros or aura add ons that can help you notice procs for people like myself who can loose track when there is a lot going on. Then any utility cd's and examples of when you use them and presented in a way that master the core then when you feel you have it down start considering using "x" during "a" . Also maybe too much but a few clips of anything you have talked about being used in say a dungeon. For example you approaching a pack then pausing and going through your thought process briefly. Foe example ahead there is "these" mobs with "this" and I'm thinking the tank is likely to do "x" so what I am going to do here is ....... and then putting what you said into action so we can see what it looks like in practice. Sorry for waffling but that would be fantastic. I'm sure if you created a video template for something like this you could knock it out for other classes. I'm sure there would be plenty of people very grateful 🙏
@@W0ndering50ul This seems more like a catch all than a warlock specific thing? Am I reading a bit too much into it? Like a guide for when to pop cds on a boss + utility that cane be used because its pretty dynamic in general.
Tbf your guide does a fantastic job covering all the main bases, mainly I was sort of pointing towards some usage examples for tge basic approaching an aoe pack, cleave pack, single target. Understand every situation is dynamic but would be good to see some of the thought processes that go through a top players mind during some encounters. What mat seem obvious to some might have been missed by others. However if you didn't change or add to anything you have done then your guide is still very good and helped me get started on demo when I got in from work.

Hand of guldan renews immolate, so you shouldnt need to use felflame outside of 4pc procs

@@dand2128 if I understand it correctly and pummel can correct me if I’m wrong, since it leaves a dot the fel hunters shadow bite does more dmg, (shadow bite does more dmg per each dot on the target)

Yeah with reforgelite I just use the default,sometimes it makes some weird decisions, so just double check.

Literally your video and wowhead says two completely different specs and play styles for demo.
Lot of different ways to play, this is what I am going with, things may change down the road. I may be completely wrong and wowhead is correct or wowhead might be wrong and I am correct.

@@Yamulo As of right now I think it'll be long term although for my sanity I hope its short term. I am going to try to do it and see if I get griefed by my raid
