  • How to reset the waste ink counter, for free, on the Canon G1000 to G4000 series MegaTank printers using just the buttons on the printers keypad.
    This video replaces earlier advice for using the WICReset app and a reset key.
    Please note: The WICReset app (or the appropriate Canon service tool) is still needed for G5000 to G7000 series printers. We did check found we couldn't get the button pad process to work for those higher models.

      The G3770 has a user replaceable maintenance cartridge which is basically a waste ink pad holder with a chip. It doesn't use an internal waste ink counter (unless there is one for the platen pad holder which is usually only applicable to Epson printers) so the process shown in this video is redundant.
      Now for the good news. There is a chip resetter for the MC-G04 maintenance cartridge used by your printer so if you can find replacement waste pad material you can reset the chips that way and re-use the cartridge. Trust that helps.

    Hi! Do you have an instructions video on how to install external waste tank for G4770? Thanks!

    • @octoinkjet
      @octoinkjet  Před 9 měsíci

      That model seems to have a user replaceable maintenance cartridge ref: MC-G04 so an external waste tank is a bit redundant. It’s possible an external tank could be retrofitted to the printer but I don’t have any info on how to approach that.

    I have a G6020. I can execute step 1, the green light turns solid. However, when I press Stop 3 times and then the Power Button to print out the report, the printer shuts down. I tried just pressing the Stop button 3 times and the printer executed some internal activity but then it stopped with the green light returning to solid. I then hit the green light and again, it just shut down the printer. Any thoughts?

      @octoinkjet  Před 9 měsíci

      The G6020 has a different process which is covered in this video:
      czcams.com/video/yd1VIzjsWD4/video.html
      Unfortunately it's not free but we had to revert to that after trying to get this process (or some variation thereof) to work with the G5000 to G7000 series printers, and failing.

      Thanks! I kept poking around and realized my printer needed the reset key. I really just wanted to see what percentage of the waste ink counter has already been used, which is apparently possible with the key controls on the other models. Since I still haven’t hit the dreaded waste ink error code, I’ll wait before I pay for the reset key… unless there’s a way to find that out without paying. Thanks for your channel. It’s very helpful!

      Completely understand. We're still looking for a way to do that ourselves as it would be useful information.

    Do not work on G2100 since there is no keypad.

    • @octoinkjet
      @octoinkjet  Před 25 dny

      The G2100 is a different layout to the one shown in the video but it has the buttons you need (ie: power and stop). So it should work... There are other videos that show the same process so you can probably find a video that uses the same process but on a model more like your printer.

    It worked great for me, but now that Ive replaced my ink absorber and done this it wont let me deep clean G3200

    • @octoinkjet
      @octoinkjet  Před 9 měsíci

      That's a new quirk that we've not come across before. Can you provide some more details on how it "won't let you". Is it simply a missing menu item or do you get no actual action when you try to run it on the printer (or computer)? The more details you can provide the more we can look into this to see if we can figure out what's going on.

      @@octoinkjet After changing the ink absorber, I couldn't print black. So I did the regular cleaning but still no black printing, then I tried to do a deep clean, the printer initiates the process and then as soon as it's about to start the job, it gives me the ink absorber full blinking lights, I tried resetting multiple times to get the deep clean working but no luck, finally tried system clean and that worked but Im still confused why it would do that if the counter is reset. Thanks for the response!

    • @octoinkjet
      @octoinkjet  Před 9 měsíci

      Sounds like the error may have been something different but hard to be sure as the Canon printer errors aren't exactly easy to interpret at the best of times. Either that or the reset wasn't completing properly for some reason. The reset process here though doesn't change the firmware or reprogram anything other than the waste counter value so I can't think of any other reason why it would block a deep clean. I'll certainly keep my eyes out for a similar scenario and report back if I find an explanation and/or fix.

      @@octoinkjet Yea very strange, and the Ive reset the counter multiple times and it still gives me the error on deep clean, but luckily I manually cleaned the print head and its working now so Ill just avoid deep clean. Thanks again

    • @octoinkjet
      @octoinkjet  Před 9 měsíci

      Thinking on it some more, I wonder if the printer thinks it doesn't have enough ink to handle a deep clean. Food for thought maybe?

    Will this work on canon G4770? Thanks

    • @octoinkjet
      @octoinkjet  Před 4 měsíci

      I've checked into the G4770 and those models seem to make use of the user replaceable MC-G04 maintenance cartridge which is a waste pad holder with a chip. If that information is accurate then you can't reset the waste counter (chip) with the process shown in this video but there are hardware chip resetters available that will reset the chip more directly.

      @@octoinkjet when i enter service mode, my printer just shuts down. also when i press the stop buttonn 3 times on service mode , the lights dont react. I have a G4000 too

    • @octoinkjet
      @octoinkjet  Před 3 měsíci

      Best guess at this point, the G4000 specifically has a different way to get into service mode. You could try this approach instead:
      - Power off
      - Press and hold "cancel" button
      - Press and hold "power" button
      - Release "cancel" button, then press & release "cancel" button a further 5 times _(the power/error LED lights should light up alternating with each other)_
      - Now release the "power" button.
      The Power LED light should be blinking. Wait until this LED stops blinking and gives a solid light and you should be in service mode.
      _Just as a side note: I've tried to locate a G4000 here in the UK but can't find one to test and research on further._
