- This video was taken on 30 March 2021. We were in Udupi and I thought the best way to start Udupi videos must be from the temple - Shri Krishna Matha. We walked around the temple and listened to its stories from our friend Akshay. He was so kind to narrate almost everything that he knew about the place. He told us about the traditions followed at this centuries' old temple. My friend, Martin was also with us. By the time we finished all the three temples around, it was 8:00 and all of us were having this intense longing for breakfast - Udupi style breakfast.
We then went to one of the most famous Udupi restaurants - Woodlands Restaurant, and we enjoyed some of the traditional cuisines. I relished the combination of semige with coconut milk. Martin loved his banana buns too.
Later, we went back to the temple with another friend - Mahesh. We walked inside the temple with him, while he narrated more stories about the temple which were inscribed on the wall in Kannada. Here we got a chance to taste the food served at the Math.
We went to the dining area where meals are served. There is a place where you get special treatment, but I wanted to sit and dine the common man's way. It was a wonderful experience sitting on the floor and tasting the simple food, along with hundreds of devotees. It's unique and traditional.

ഉഡുപ്പി വിഡിയോകൾക്ക് തുടക്കം കുറിക്കുവാൻ ഏറ്റവും പറ്റിയ ഇടം എന്തുകൊണ്ടും ശ്രീ കൃഷ്ണ ക്ഷേത്രം തന്നെയാണ്. അങ്ങനെ ഞങ്ങൾ ശ്രീ കൃഷ്ണ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിന്ന് തുടങ്ങി. ഉടുപ്പിക്കാരൻ ആയ അക്ഷയ് എന്ന സുഹൃത്ത് ഒപ്പം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതിനാൽ അമ്പലത്തിന്റെ ചരിത്രവും അവിടുത്തെ ആചാരങ്ങളും അറിയുവാൻ സാധിച്ചു.
അവിടെ നിന്നും ഞങ്ങൾ വുഡ്ലാൻഡ്സ് ഹോട്ടലിൽ പോയി പ്രഭാത ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചു - ഉഡുപ്പി സ്റ്റൈലിൽ. പരമ്പരാഗത കന്നഡ വിഭവം ആയ സെമിഗേ നമ്മുടെ ഇടിയപ്പത്തിനോട് നല്ല സാമ്യം ഉള്ളതാണ്. അത് തേങ്ങാപ്പാലും കൂട്ടി കഴിച്ചു, നല്ല അടിപൊളി രുചി. റവ കൊണ്ടുണ്ടാക്കിയ കേസരിയും എടുത്തു പറയേണ്ടത് തന്നെ.വായിലിട്ടാൽ അലിഞ്ഞു പോകുന്ന രുചി!
അതിനു ശേഷം ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണ അമ്പലത്തിൽ ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾക്ക് വേണ്ടി വിളമ്പുന്ന ഊണും കഴിക്കാൻ ഒരു അവസരം കിട്ടി. സാധാരണ ആയി നിലത്തു വരി വരിയായി ഇരുന്നാണ് ഊണ് കഴിക്കുന്നത്. സ്പെഷ്യൽ ആയി വേറെ ഇരിപ്പിടം ഉണ്ടെന്നു പറഞ്ഞെങ്കിലും എല്ലാവരുടെയും പോലെ നിലത്തു ഇരുന്നു കഴിക്കുന്നത് തന്നെ സന്തോഷം. ഒരു സാധാരണ കന്നഡ ഊണ്, ഒപ്പം പായസവും. ഇവിടെ രുചിയേക്കാൾ വിശ്വാസത്തിനും ഭക്തിക്കും ആണ് പ്രാധാന്യം.

Njn poittund..Udupi is a wonderful place and awesome vegetarian food❤️..I'm a non-veggie but I can continue to be veggie if I'm staying in Udupi for long time..atrakk Nalla tasty aanu food okke..Most of the temples in Karnataka will provide food I beleive.with simple ingredients great taste.

@@bijseel8806 bro listen i mean kerala means old the state wise the kerala was born in 1956 . The udupi was part of tulu district in madras presidency ok . I mean the the history started when the parasurama creation of land from the arabian sea from gokarna to kanyakumari . Divided the land into two malayalanadu and tulu nadu consist of 64 villages and 34 villages in north . This is the first puranic evidence of these lands . Later so many historical evidence related to the temple 108 shiva temples in kerala and 108 durga temples in kerala , most of situated in these tulu nadu . The caste like bhuts and nairs share common Kshatriya ancestry and culture like kalaripayattu, naga worship , matrilinity and so on . The temples , worship and tantric customes share similar practises for eg kumarancoil temple in thucklay the tantric performed by brahmins in tulu nadu . So many related to marriage and customs etc.

Always felt Uduppi and Mookambika are like most of the places in kerala. That kerala feeling is there always in the air. Always liked the vegetarian tiffins there and temple food in uduppi krishna temple and mookambika devi temple. The taste's of sambar and payasam are gorgeous. " Akki (rice) shavige/ semige" preparation is different from our " idiappam " which is prepared with rice flour. അരച്ചെടുത്ത പച്ചരി മാവ് തേങ്ങാപ്പാൽ ചേർത്ത് വഴറ്റി, പിന്നീട് ആവിയിൽ വേവിച്ചത്, ചൂടോടെ സേവാനാഴിയിൽ പിഴിഞ്ഞെടുത്താണ് ഷാവിഗെ ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നത്‌. അത് തന്നെ മിച്ചം വന്നാൽ, കടുക് പൊട്ടിച്ച് ("ഒഗ്രനെ" ചെയ്ത്) ലെമൺ റൈസ് ("ചിത്രാന്ന") പോലുള്ള വിഭവങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടാക്കാറുണ്ട്. എല്ലാം ഒന്നിനൊന്നു മെച്ചം.😍

Ebin - Excellent presentation, nicely done video. In this temple, people of all religions and faiths can enter. (even the famous Table Vidwan Ustad Zakir Hussain has also visited inside the temple and prayed before Lord Krishna).
I am not sure whether you are a religious believer or atheist (non-believer). A couple of my observations and information on this vlog.
1) whichever holy place you visit (irrespective of religion), please atleast bow in front of the deity (whether is Christian/Hindu/Muslim/Budha/Sikh) and pay your respects. These are not just places for tourists to come see around but is a religious institution with reverence.
2) The meals served (Annaprasaada) in the Bhojanasala here in the morning and evening, everyone can participate, but basically it is meant for pilgrims. Before Covid, they were serving meals for 8000-12000 per day and on festival days and holidays it will be 15,000-20,000 or more. It will be the same menu every day - Rice, then they first serve Rasam (it is not two different type of Sambar as your said), Rasam will be slightly sweet as they add jaggery. Then they serve Sambar (Sambar also will be slightly sweet as they put pumpkin (mathanga) and include little jaggery) and later they serve buttermilk and then payasam. The payasam is mostly with Channa Dal, Tur Dal (Kadala paruppu, Thuvara paruppu). This is Satvik and Vegetarian. This is the typical Udupi type of Rasam and Sambar.
3) You missed the breakfast from Mitra Samaj, which is one of the oldest restaurants in Udupi. This is adajcent to the temple (on the right hand side of the temple on the same street). Thier masala dosa, goli bajji, pineapple sheera, mangalore buns, idlis and the filter coffee are famous.
Did you not visit Malpe beach .... a beautiful beach having lot of local sea food eateries.

1. Bowing in front of the temples, churches, masjids, or other religious centers is a way of expressing respect... I believe that respect is more important and the ways are individual choices ☺️
2. About the food served in the temple, maybe you are right... It was only a one time experience for me ☺️
3. We had breakfast in Mitrasamaj but we did not get permission to shoot... So the vlog doesn't have that shot.
4. Please watch our next vlog in Thimmappa to get the glimpse of Malpe beach.

@@FoodNTravel Thanks for your response. Did you go to MTR restaurant? This is one of the best restaurants in Udipi, slightly expensive, but worth the quality and taste. The location is the Ground Floor of Samanvay Hotel, Near Govinda Kalyana Mantapa. This is the branch of the famous MTR (originally Mavalli Tiffin Room) in Lal Bagh, Bangalore. Please try this food at this restaurant before you leave Udupi.
I understand that you were going to Udupi for the first time. I am also a wide traveler for the last 20+ years mostly traveling to historical places, sites within India and abroad, and doing documentaries for my research and self-interest. But what I do is, before going to the location or site(s) I do good research and understand about the location/sites.
We go to the Udupi temple at least 2 times a year for the past 35+ years, hence my intention was to highlight a couple items for your information as your videos are seen and heard by millions of people like me. Please do not take my comments as criticism, but it is only to bring clarity and room for improvement. I really admire your narration/script and voice too :) ...which are good with clarity ...I appreciate it.
1. Regarding paying respect in religious institutions, I do understand that it is an individual's choice and how you perceive it. Incidentally, happened to see a couple of frames in the video (e.g.14:16 ) Inside the temple, I saw when the other gentleman Mr. Mahesh was going to pray and you just turned and moved away from there. That was the point I was coming to. Fine, it is your individual choice.
Have fun at Malpe and relish the astonishing taste of seafood at Thimmappa.
Please take all precautions as Corona is raging, Take vaccination from Karnataka as it is difficult to schedule the vaccination in Kerala.
