Islam defended his title for the first time in the lion's den in Australia, he had everything to loose, with out Khabib in his corner, and became the #1 pfp best fighter in the world. This was one of the greatest lightweight matches I've seen in a long long time. This is what I expected Oliveira vs Makhachev to be. I have nothing but tremendous respect for Volk and I am so happy for Islam winning today. Volk was brilliant on the mat and Islam was unexpectedly great with the strike game.

Khabib was a different beast. Islam is better proportioned. Islam has a more beautiful physique. Khabib is not as beautiful. Khabib cannot run as well He is build a bit like a monkey (I am not saying this to disrespect). But Khabib is stronger. Khabib is more resilient physically and especially mentally. Look into Khabib’s eyes. You see a fire. Islam has a nice soft look in his eyes. Khabib (and his father) are more scary. They have more confidence and authority. These are important qualities. On top of it, Khabib has much better defense. We never figured out if Khabib has a strong chin because no one was able to hit him. We never saw Khabib with black eyes like this. Having said all of this Islam is a great fighter. He is number one P4P King right now. Congratulations.

I will say more credit needs to be given to fighters who resist and reverse takedowns.
Reverse takedown is actually a point. Defend takedown is cancel so no one get the point, but takedown with control should definitely be a point.
If a takedown is a point then negating a takedown should also be a point, rules are skewed towards wrestlers
Round 4 is a great example, Islam spent 2 minutes of back control while eating flush punches, but rules says he won that round? Yeah right

The wrestler scores for getting a takedown because they are controlling where fight takes place.
If someone prevents a wrestler from getting a takedown they are controlling that fight stays on the feet.
A defended takedown is exactly the same to the guy who wants it standing as a takedown is to the guy who wants it on the ground.
Everytime Volk stuffed a takedown, it's him controlling where the fight takes place while Islam is trying to get it down.
They should score just as much as any takedown.

I, a total Islam fanatic, agree with this.
But let me ask you something. If Islam was disadvantaged by the weight cut - unable to recover to his full fighting weight due to much less time to do so (whereas Volks easily got back to his optimal weight) - does it not give Islam's win a little more value and spark?
(He was 2kg under his normal fighting weight so we didn't see the full-strength Islam)
For this reason I would say that it was as pound for pound as you could ever get, despite your comment being very true in general.
If he was given the normal 36 hours to recover I certainly would NOT give Islam p4p#1, but in light of these circumstances idk mate it's bloody impressive to be fighting that monster without being fully hydrated.

What I'm saying is that in my opinion P4P no1 is usually a double weight champion. Islam has cleaned out his division which was far too easy for him and therefore it's difficult to know who good he actually is.
If a featherweight can cause him this much problems then I think he needs to test himself at welterweight.....
