    I had a chance to meet in person Ms. Teresita Sy-Coson. It was a brief encounter but I will always treasure the meet-up. Not everybody has the opportunity to be upclose with someone whom I consider not only an icon in PH retail businesses but an influential leader and mentor.

    In the 70s, I told my girlfriend then (now my wife) that SM will progress very rapidly in years to come. My GF asked, "why?". I told her that SM in Sta. Cruz is computerized and well managed. The salesladies are beautiful and very accommodating. I noted that SM (Shoemart) was run by IBM systems, very expensive but it was first in technology in the Philippine retail sales industry.

    Wow! Filipinos are not Juan tamad as someone posted. The problem with Filipinos is.. they're extremely loyal, when they work at a certain company they don't have the initiate to build their own. Coz they're LOYAL. It's not like it's a bad thing but those thing keep us from the possibility of becoming a successful person like them. We don't take risk. Our hearts is bigger than our brain, somewhat.

    Have you‘ve not notice, Ms. Sy spoke English w/ out Chinese intonations. So it means she was born or was a little girl when migrated in Philippines. She speaks Filipino English. I remembered in the 60‘s, there’s a small Shoemart store in Cubao, the same w/ Sybel’s store ba yon but they are only selling Shoe‘s at that time.

    They are one of the country's richest who can influence the economy through wages. It's not just about poor people's choice to stay poor, but rich people are capable of orchestrating resources and opportunities (Law of supply and demand). Poor people cannot succeed because of lack of know-how (Education) and it's suprressed by financial needs. Rich people are capable to give higher amount but choose the least. They know they need poor people so they keep them poor by limiting wages to what workers only need just to be capable of working for them again and again.

    • @artamerican
      @artamerican Před 6 lety

      Richard Ampig they are not 'one of the country's richest', in fact, they are the richest in the Philippines. This clan of fukien-Chinese are not only hardworking but shrewd in running a successful retail business, since their first SM opened in makati in 1970s, they spent the next 40 years to grow and expand to what they are now today. But face the reality, don't expect them to give back to the poor by increasing wages, that sounds so silly, and dont expect much they would share their success with society either although they have set up funds for philanthropic programs.

    • @Chad_LA
      @Chad_LA Před 6 lety

      Point #1:
      "they are not 'one of the country's richest', in fact, they are the richest in the Philippines." ---> They maybe the richest, but not the only rich in PH. You might wanna rephrase it to "they are not JUST one of the country's richest...". The premise still holds true, so your statement cannot negate it, only elaborates.
      Point #2:
      "But face the reality, don't expect them to give back..." ----> nothing in the comments imposes an expectation of greater return from them to the society. Read it again because the direction of your clause is not negating the premise at all. So don't lecture whether on what to expect or about your imagination that makes you think like it sounds silly.

      Maybe our Government is not completely innocent and pure but these tycoons are part of its problem. They enabled the system to further their own cause. They gave up helping it and instead joined the ride of poor government. I know it is not the business tycoons' responsibility but do not imply that they are victims. They are NOT.

Kailangan neutral. Meron kang sigla at galak na nararamdaman (sa ingles Shopping Euphoria tawag dyan).

      Not enough since they are controlling the bathroom schedule of their female clerks. NOT TO MENTION their sales supervisors looking at their body maliciously from bottom up AND FORCING them to ONLY BUY SM CLOTHING AND ACCESSORY NOT GIVING THEM CHOICES FOR A CHEAPER ALTERNATIVE.
      Oh by the way, you can believe my claims since they are NOT claims. My undergrad thesis was about SM. THAT and the NUMEROUS related literature I used from papers and books at UP DILIMAN states those scenarios. These are published books and papers so you can believe it.

ALAM DAPAT NILA PINASOK NILA.

    sm has destroyed so many of the real filipino businesses. where there is sm, all of the surrounding Filipino businesses were destroyed. the Philippines is no longer a country for the Filipinos. no filipino business has thrived since 99 percent of the business here are owned by the Filipino Chinese moguls.

      @kimeli If you are riding coattails with SM, please leave. I know in your mind SM is good but for @Loven Wolf and I, they will never be. If you want us to be more open, how about walking a mile in these clerks shoes and try living off the measly salary SM gives to its clerks? Then come back to us. I am telling you you would have the same sentiments with us too. Also it is not like there are plentiful of jobs in this country. Stop making the "you can apply elsewhere nobody is forcing you* argument. THERE IS NO ELSEWHERE. If you do not have a job, you are lazy. That is the Filipino mindset. You do not really have a choice even if you do not want to be abused. That was such a heartless and cruel comment. Much like how the business tycoons are doing their business. Heartless, compassionless and cruel.
