- Many Filipinos regard the country's Moro citizens as "the other," betraying deep-seated prejudices and displaying a lack of understanding of their culture and religion. The Moros have always been portrayed as the other party in violent conflicts that date back to Spanish and American colonization up to the liberation movements in recent times. What most Filipinos don't know is how rich the cultural heritage is of the Moros, which refers to several linguistic groups that include the Maguindanaon, Tausug, Maranao, Yakan and the Sama. International Alert's documentary brings viewers to the tables of the Maguindanaon, Tausug and Maranao, where introduced to their food specialties, they can, hopefully, begin appreciating, instead of fearing or condemning, their brothers and sisters. The documentary will show there is, in fact, no "other," because of the same love for food, for gathering, for celebrations, for country.
Every Muslim around the globe are my family members. I feel proud to be a part of them. Me from Dhaka Bangladesh 🇧🇩
i'm muslim from indonesia, i'am a computer Programmer, i'am a network engineer, and i have many client in filipin.
As an Indonesian, I can relate with many of the Moro tribes' food. Examples are Odang (udang), gulai, randang (rendang), piyanggang (panggang) etc. Its also unique that Indonesia is a heavily Muslim country and Philippines is a heavily Christian country, however the Indonesian provinces near the Philippines are mainly Christian while the Filipino areas near Indonesia are historically Muslim.
