Isn't it odd that past villains are now seen as Robin Hood type figures. Paul Sykes in prison was a rather nasty character, where he and another few would target the more vulnerable types, even to the point of sexual assaults. Maybe it was the years of this that turned him to drink?

I was told by my ex brother in law years ago in the early 80s that when Paul Sykes worked in Blackpool as a debt collector there was a particular nasty incident that he’s remembered for
apparently he was in grange park ..a large council estate in Blackpool.and he arrived at a house for money
.after threatening the male who noticed Sykes looking at his partner
the male immediately said “ you can shag here if you want “ to which he said “ right “ and grabbed the male bloke and shagged him instead

.this story is second hand by myself but l remember it as told to myself verbatim

my brother in law was a ex heavyweight professional boxer from Blackpool and it’s not Brian London ( too old )

Greggs management gave Paul some food & a drink 😂, Believe me, Regardless of his appearance towards the end he was still a seriously Dangerous man. • @Jesus_Broski

I’ve so many stories about him. My step dad was a boxer and used to spa with Paul. They were close friends. He used to come round our house drinking with my step dad and me and my brother and sister called him Uncle Paul.
One time there was a lad at school who was bullying me. My step dad was a hard case too, so I didn’t want to tell him. But I’d told my headmaster and the school had called home to let my parents know what had happened. I came home from school and my step dad and uncle Paul were in the room. I’ll never forget this!
I walked into the room and Paul said to come over to him. He slapped me around the head and I fell over. My step dad said, “did that hurt”, so holding back tears I said ‘no’ (it hurt like hell). My step dad says to me, “who’s this lad who’s bullying you at school?”, so I told him all about it.
Paul then told me to put my hands up, showed me how to stand, then asked me to punch him in the face. I said no I don’t want to, and he said you either punch me or I’ll punch you. I was 9 years old at this point. So I hit him as hard as I could. He corrected my stance and told me to punch from the hip, get my body weight behind it. I did it again, and again, and again, until he said I was doing it right.
They sat me down and my step dad said that when I’m back at school tomorrow, I approach this lad and belt him. Paul said if I don’t belt him then he would belt me.
So next day comes and I go to school. We’re in the playground and this bully is chasing me. So I stop, start to chase him and he runs off. I catch up to him and hit him as hard as I could in his nose and it busts. I get dragged into the headmasters office and sent home. When I got home my step dad took me to see Paul and I got a big hug and randomly, a Casio watch!
And that’s one of about 20 stories I could tell you about this man. I honestly loved him like family. I knew he was a bad man, and so was my step dad. They robbed the post office together on Townley Road, Lupset, with a samurai sword that they then gave me and I had it hung on my bedroom wall. Nothing ever came of that either! He beat up a car full of teenage boys because I walked past them when they were washing their car and I got a slight bit wet, so he took me back to them and properly kicked the shit out of them. We’d sit watching kung Fu movies on a Saturday night when my mum went to bingo, and my step dad and uncle Paul would sit drinking and saying how they’d be able to take them all in a fight.
So many memories of this guy.
