Aji Do 722H vs BIG Pollock (EPIC FIGHT)

  • This was a kinda hard decision.
    Kayak is a place where you can easily lose, break, or damage a rod :)
    I've done all of the above before, so taking one of my most expensive and favorite rods for a ride was not a straightforward decision.
    Very little wind and kinda nice-ish weather made it a bit easier.
    A minute before this take, I had coalfish on the rod so that was the target for aji do and metal... couldn't expect that big pollock will take it, the first cast :)
    The good news is that the rod really can handle big fish with the backbone while the sensitivity of the tip allows you to fish with 2g lures :)
    Galway bay Pollock is in top condition this time of the year just before spawn.
    "yak" as always Aqua marina drift with few modifications.
    This was also the first proper test of Garmin striker 7sv and a few other bits.
    Have to say, very happy with the setup.

    Muy buenas, gracias por tus videos, esta caña a pesar de sus 2,19 es una caña lanzadora? La quiero para pescar desde orilla.

    Great video Tomas! What is the best range of lures weight for the Aji-do 722H? Does it work better the 1-6 gr range or the 7-15 gr range?

      Thank you 🙏
      Very interesting question, casting wise it can cast 1-15g no problem. 1g really depends on wind etc, 15g is no issue either.
      I would say 5-15 cast perfectly.
      Retrieve wise, 15g soft plastic is ok too but for example 15g slow jig in current is bit too much due to thin tip .

      @@TomasJanicek thank you Tomas! I mostly use 5-7-10gr minnows, 5-7gr jigs, soft baits with 3.5-7gr jighead and 12gr WTD. So i was in a dilemma between Aji-Do 722H(1-15gr) or the 832Fc(3-24gr).

      @@ShoreJigginginAlbania In that case I would go for 722h
      The long rod is originally meant for float fishing, at least that's my understanding.
      For heavier use, rockliver 3-25 I think was very interesting option too :)

    Awesome fish and a great fight, congratulations. I would also be interested what type braid and what size leader you are running when targeting such powerful fish with the Aji-Do 722?

      Thank you for the comment, the reel I used on this rod was actually from other kayak rod as well as braid etc.
      Braid x4 J braid Daiwa 0.15 and leader was .35 or .38 Berkley trilene fluorocarbon.
      Just to add resistance against reef etc.
      Currently using .10 x8 Daiwa and very happy with that

      @@TomasJanicek Haha, I am already quite deep in that hole, so I think it does not matter anymore 😂 If I may ask a tough question, which one of your Aji-Do’s is closer to your heart, the medium or heavy model? I do similar fishing to you, both land-based and kayak in Australia, typical target fish are between 0.5-1.5 kg, love using soft plastics and crankbaits up to 5gr, but find it hard to decide which rod to choose..

    Hey, can you describe the rod a little? What is maximum cast weight? Do you have the even heavier rod of this series? The one with 24g lure weight?

    • @TomasJanicek
      @TomasJanicek  Před rokem

      Very light, and super sensitive (like my tubular rods) but you are able to feel/work creature baits easier. I use it with a 15g maximum. For example, my favorite blue bird which is up to 16g (I cast 20-25g with no issue) but that is way stronger blank.
      I don't have 24g as in that range I have different rods I'm happy with.

      @@TomasJanicek thanks for the fast answer. Im quite unsure about how its performing against my Tict SRAM 82T Sis but actually this is my Last remaining Spinning rod in my lineup. I Like it a lot but 8,2 is quite Long and under some circumstamces annoying.

    15lb braid has no problem with the guides? The max is PE 0.6

    • @TomasJanicek
      @TomasJanicek  Před 8 měsíci +1

      This was on the kayak so casting distance was not priority.
      But there is no problem with the line anyway, usually I use .13 which would be PE 1 and absolutely no issue.

    What's your max casting distance using the plastic lure with jig?

    • @TomasJanicek
      @TomasJanicek  Před 9 měsíci

      Soft plastics slow it down quite a bit, so maybe 40-50m with 0,06 line.
      With 15g metal, you could cast 60-70m wind depending.
      Only measured by counting turns on the reel so could be a bit off.
      For casting, I prefer Blue bird up to 16g loaded with 20g jig, that flyes way further :)

    • @zveryok1
      @zveryok1 Před 9 měsíci

      @TomasJanicek Thank you, Tomas. 40-50 meters is quite far! Looks like a great rod. Did you mean 0.06mm diameter line?
      I was asking because I have to cast about 40 meters to get to the deeper part of my lake. That's where the big walleyes park. Largest I caught at that lake is 2.5 kilos, about 65cm walleye.
