Got my elder farther somthing similar , blends in . But has a panel in it for protection .

The only problem with this bag is it doesn't seem sized to fit in an overhead bin. I prefer my Outdoor Vitals KotaUL for that reason.
I believe standard size limits for bags in overhead bins are somewhere between 22 x 14 x 9 inches and 24 x 16 x 10 inches. Given that the Overlander is 26.5 x 13 x 9.5 inches (or in my case, 26.5 x 15 x 14 inches when fully-loaded), it would definitely be pushing the limits. You could probably make it fit, as long as you only fill it 70% . . . but it would be taking a risk. If you are looking for a carry on bag, this might not be it. For me, I'm thinking of this as the ideal vehicle get home bag . . . but not necessarily for flying. For that application, I would recommend the Vertx Gamut or Basecamp. Your Outdoor Vitals KotaUL bag looks like a nice lightweight option as well, although I would miss the front grab handle that the Vertx bags have, especially when the bag is fully loaded.
@@BarricadeGuard Thank you for the detailed reply! The KotaUL has grab handles on all 4 edges. It's definitely more for travel than hiking or survival. My biggest problem with it was the stock hip belt was too thin, but it's replaceable and I swapped it out for a Six Moon Designs one that's been perfect. Honestly if I'd known about the Vertx I may have bought it instead. I might replace my REI Trail 40 that I use for commuting with the Vertx as the REI is pretty tight on space.
@@JudahRichardson1 Thanks for the additional info! To be fair, the hip belt on the Overlander is relatively thin as well. I would say it's useable, but not anywhere near the support that my Deuter Kid Comfort provides. In regard to the grab handles, I did take a look at the KotaUL, and saw the 4 edge handles you mentioned . . . but the Vertx bags have two at the top: a thinner one near the neckline (around the top of the shoulder straps), and then another wide and robust handle on the top front of the bag that really comes in handy. While not a complete necessity, I definitely find it to be a major selling point. The REI Trail 40 looks to be a bit smaller than the Overlander, and with fewer organizational options from a tactical perspective.
@@BarricadeGuard Just ordered an Overlander. Black, just like yours. Thanks for the good review. Also got the matching Premier Body Armor Level IIIA inset because might as well. I'll be using it mostly to commute since I frequently carry 3 laptops + food, which gets heavy. Of course with most actual commuter backpacks designed for only 1 laptop and lacking a hip belt (a must for any pack IMO) I've turned to hiking and travel packs. The REI Trail 40's specs and features was just barely adequate for to do the job; the Overlander seems to check all the boxes. I think I'm gonna use the Trail 40 for shopping at Aldi ;)
@@JudahRichardson1 Good for you, especially going all-out with the body armor insert! You'll definitely get a workout carrying that plate and 3 laptops . . . but at least you'll have a quality bag for the job. I also love the idea of using the REI Trail 40 for Aldi, lol. I shop there as well, and the Trail 40 would sure beat lugging around a bunch of reusable shopping bags. Enjoy the gear upgrades, and stop back to let me know how you like it after you've used it.
