    How did you solve the level issue? I initially bought it to play it live, since the circuits sound awesome and its very playable. But because I already do mixing live I found that dialling in the levels on the fly was too much overhead for me. Great thing for the studio tho imho!

    Can I ask two questions about you mixing at 192khz? Firstly, do you have to have your buffer / latency all the way up to handle all the tracks and processing at such a high quality? Secondly, what you use to get your mix back to 16bit (or 24bit) 44.1khz? Love your channel, thanks for the cool vids.

  • @5adb0i
    @5adb0i Před 4 lety

    Maybe the reason for the gain issue has to do with Plugin Development levels. SSL, Slate, Waves, etc. usually calibrate their inputs so that -18 dBFS in your DAW is the same as 0 on the VU meters of a console. So if you have hot STEMs or trackouts at, say, -6dBFS for Mastering headroom they would be clipping the shit out of the plugin's input.

    One important issue for me that no-one seems to notice is that analog devices have way more resolution in the range of the control knobs than digital ones do. Often you can hear the steps in the changes when turning a purely digital knob as the transitions are low resolution, whereas analog simply doesn't have this. Since this unit is a hybrid of analog and digital, it would be good to know whether the resolution of the digital stepping is noticeable

    Nice device, but I suppose it is working as an audio interface when you use it with the USB connection? That could be a problem in the windows world when you've already got an audio interface connected to your system with ASIO drivers (more or less mandetory in Cubase and other windows DAW's). I guess you've got to choose between one or the other. Audio device aggregation in windows is a real pain. I tried it once with my Steinberg UR-242 and a Blue Yeti USB mic through ASIO4ALL and it mostly worked but then you can't use all of the UR-242's features. I bet you better use the Analog Heat without the USB connection in this case? (but missing the DAW integration). According to their website it comes with software but no mention of drivers. My experience with class complaint devices is that functionality / feature support differ between operating systems and you often need manufacturer specific ASIO drivers to get all features to work in windows whereas on an iPad things work driverless.

    • @ModulerDrone
      @ModulerDrone Před 3 lety +1

      I think if you know what you're doing and suits the project it can be a really nice finisher. People used to master to a lossy format called tape. If you want transparent mastering stick to high end gear. If you want colors for your bus, this is one of the best devices for that. Look, I wouldn't put my SSL bus compressor on a master bus, that for me is way more desperate than using a saturation device like this with care.

    A collection of cheap sounding saturation/distortion circuits that all mainly add noise, including "Clean boost" mode. Filter is "ok".
    To be honest not much (anything?) is available at that price, that is stereo and of course its an Elektron box, so you are paying mainly for the brand.
    I stopped using mine in the studio, it adds noise even when I send a signal in hot and use "clean boost".
    The first 3 circuits are the only one that are worth using for my taste, the rest are ok if you want trashy distortion.
    Only use it when I play out and want a DJ style filter inserted on the mixer's master buss.

Unless you need this for live audio, I can't see the point. Way better options from UAD if you do need something live, anyway. If you really need to feel you're using something analog when something like SDRR is better than analog in every way except a tiny bit of latency, just put a tube on your keyboard and tell yourself you're using analog gear. No one, and I mean no one, is going to notice the difference in a finished product except that Saturn or SDRR is going to give you a far better end product for less money and hassle. Snake oil.

    Good idea, but for me it wasn't put together well enough. And the price is crazy. Would pay at most 300$ for that as it is! Not 800$+, especially with how it's currently set up. If they fixed the auto gain compensation, the way you name presets(totally unusable the way it used now, is end up chucking it abroad the room in frustration trying to name a preset on it), and the overall general setup of it is not usable for me. But if it was all redone and say more easily usable with total hardware control instead of having to go into the pluggin, then if okay 500$ for it. Still wouldn't pay what they ate asking if it was fixed to how I like it. I'd rather get the Drawmer 1976! It just use Acustica Audios Taupe and Soundtoys Decapitator in conjuction. Use it with Ableton live and I'm good to go for live use as well. For much cheaper as I've got the computer and live setup already. Idk, maybe it's be good for electronic cats for live use, but not at that price. You can get similar stuff done with a Boss Od 200 live for 250$. Try it out, it's not bad and easier to use, and cheaper. Only thing if change is make it true bypass as it colours your high end to much. If I want a buffer I'd use a Lehlo buffer instead as they sound pristine!
