Episode 1: Traveling to Disney World & Port Orleans Riverside - Vlog September 2016

- The day is finally here... the day we have been waiting for for over a year! It's time to go back to Walt Disney World!!! We decided to try something different this time with travel, we drove to New Orleans and took a direct flight to Orlando... so that means some yummy New Orleans food to get the trip started right! We don't let the rain dampen our excitement... as we sit in the airport we watch the rain pour down and it is still raining as we board. This actually made a really neat effect on the plane's window as we took off as the fast motion of the plane wiped the rain away. Anyhoo, we had a great flight which was partially over the Gulf of Mexico... this was beautiful with clear skies. But as we approached Orlando, guess what, more rain! Again, that's ok, we were just excited to be there!
The ever fun Magical Express brought us to our home for the next 9 days - Port Orleans Riverside. And it was better than we expected! Pulling into the front of the resort, you really get the feeling of the South, us being from Louisiana, we felt right at home. The details in the lobby area were great as well with hidden Mickey's everywhere - the kids loved that!
One thing I can say about this place is that it is HUGE! I will admit we got a little lost trying to find our room and it took us about two days to figure out where we were going... We stayed in Alligator Bayou in building 16. We loved it! The room was big enough for 5 people to be comfortable and had really wonderful theming. We especially liked the design on the back of the pull down murphy bed which was from Princess & The Frog - one of our favorites!
We opened up our delivery from Amazon Pantry and settled into the room. We loved getting snacks delivered when we fly! We get breakfast and snack items that saves us from spending so much in the parks! Also bottled water and canned sodas are great to have on hand.
By this time, we were completely starving! We head over to the food court for dinner. The kids had never experienced a food court at a Disney resort, so this was a fun experience. We have previously stayed at the Cabins at Fort Wilderness. So having so many options in one location was perfect. We activated our handle-less mugs and sat down to our first meal at Disney! One other note is that the resort has authentic Louisiana food, which we loved! The kids vowed they could eat there at every meal :)

Great video! I'm glad I found it and your channel! We are heading back to Disney in a few weeks and staying at POR Riverside. We've never stayed there before. Looks lovely! I have to ask, where did you find the Yoda hat? My son loves it!
So glad you found us too! We loved POR, look in our videos we have a couple of other videos just around the resort. It is beautiful and really felt like home to us. We found the Yoda hat at Walmart and Colby had to have it. Hope you are able to find one for your son :)
Travel day is always so fun to watch, because everyone is so happy! The hotel looked beautiful. We've never stayed there, but we've always heard good things. Great idea to have the Amazon box delivered! You have such well behaved young men. LOVE the pins on your backpack! Thanks for sharing!
+Two Cats And A Mouse travel day is always exciting!!! This was our first time at Port Orleans and we loved it! We spent a whole day exploring the resort later in the trip. I discovered the Amazon Pantry box a few years ago and we have done this since, having snacks is a lifesaver with teenage boys who never stop eating!!! They are really sweet good natured kids who still don't mind spending time with mom & dad 😀

This is my absolute favourite resort. Our oldest 2 kids slept in 1 bed, mom and dad in another bed, one of the twins on the trundle bed and the other twin slept on the bench between the tv and the wall!
Just found your channel, loved seeing you and your lovely family at our favourite home from home. We also stayed in building 16 on our last trip in 2015, we love it too. This is my absolute favourite resort. It’s gorgeous. We have stayed in the Bayou and Magnolia. After a tiring park day the kids played with their light savers and were thrilled to feed the ducks! We told them we have the same ducks at home! With 4 kids our oldest two slept in 1 bed, mom and dad in 1 bed, one of the twins in the trundle bed and the other twin slept on the bench between the tv and the wall!,,,, He never fell off
first off i would love to say thanks for sharing your videos with us! i have enjoyed every single one that you have uploaded! your family is like mine in the love that we share for all things Disney! In July 2012 my wife and i took the kids to WDW and we stayed in Port Orleans Riverside as well. We also were in alligator bayou i dont remember the building number but it was RIGHT next to the main building. and you are right that place is HUGE we were there for 5 days and we only explored maybe a quarter of it! but it was great ambiance spacious rooms and we loved it!We are going back this year in 29 days and ill be posting the videos after. thanks again for sharing your disney life!

You have to love the economy of Southwest Airlines. I have great memories of trips to florida. Disney World was fun. Staying in the park is a real treat when your a kid. Easy access to all the park. It's worth the extra money.

we stayed at alligator bayou to and my grandaughter loved the pull down bed. We had a great time. We went in 2013 Then the next year i got cancer and i am so glad we went when we did. Thanks for sharingg

I got to stay at Riverside with the DisneyDoubleDose back in March and it was beautiful! And the beds were soooooo much more comfortable than Pop Century. LOL! I think we were in Magnolia though? But I stayed in the area where you were back when I was a kid with my parents!
We really loved staying there, there is not one negative thing I can say about POR. Those beds were great! Yes, way better than Pop Century. We walked around the entire resort one day and it is neat how the Magnolia Bend area and Alligator Bayou are so different, it's like two completely different resorts. Thanks for watching :)

My daughter and I stayed at Poly last year and didn't have the meal plan so Amazon Pantry was wonderful! I had ordered water, donuts, snacks and creamer for my coffee. Will definitely do that again. Actually heard about it on the Mom's Panel. On a side note, enjoy your vlog!
Amazon Pantry has been a life saver for us. Having three teenagers they never stop eating so snacks are a must!!! So glad you are enjoying the vlogs :)

He gets that all the time! He has grown his hair out so now they don't resemble as much. We absolutely loved POR, it has been our favorite resort so far. There are a few more videos from this trip of the resort. We had a resort day so there is one walking and exploring and one at the big pool area. We also had dinner at Boatwright's one night... be sure to eat here, the food is amazing!

Thank you, love the idea of the Amazon pantry box, did not know you could have it delivered to Disney resort. You can get personal things like shavers, sunscreen in the box also.
Should you call ahead the resort to let them know you are expecting a delivery?
Hi Karen! The pantry items vary daily on what is available. Sometimes you can get razors and sunscreen and sometimes they are not available. One time we had to have a separate shipment for our sunscreen. Yes, let your resort know you will be receiving a box and they do now charge a small fee for the holding of the package.
I love the pantry box idea! Is the food free in the cafeteria where you had dinner?
The pantry box has been a lifesaver when we have flown to Disney! We had the Disney Dining Plan so our food was covered in our package. But no, unless you have this you pay the menu prices.
Thank you for making this video!! We're 37 days away from our trip to POR for our daughter's 5th birthday. None of us have EVER been to Disney before, and we'll be there for 7 days. I'm worried about transportation. Any big tips regarding the buses or anything else with mentioning?
We have 43 days until our next trip :) I will tell you that WDW can be very overwhelming for your first trip. My main piece of advice is to know going in that you will not be able to do it all. Just repeat that to yourself over and over again and you won't be disappointed if you miss something. I was so frantic on our first trip trying to fit everything in that I missed the little things. Seeing your kids faces experience everything for the first time is better than any ride there!!! I am so glad that we started vlogging because it makes us record 1000 times more than we would for family videos and we have so many more memories to look back on! Pick the thing that are most important and make sure you do those, anything else you have time for is a bonus. The buses are really good at POR, but they do hit several internal bus stops before they head out. If you want to be at the park for 9:00, but at the bus stop at 8:00 so you have time to wait for the bus and the transportation there plus walking to the park entrance. We normally tried to get to the parks 20 minutes before they opened so we were at the bus stop 1:20 before the park opened. I believe in rope drop... you really can get more done first thing in the morning. Sorry for the long reply but hope this helps! There are lots more videos from this trip that may help too :) Alisa

Hi there! We're so glad you are enjoying the videos!!! Yes, the twins took turns sleeping on the pull down and they both liked it. I laid on it just to test it out and it was very comfortable. Yes, we always take Disney transportation. We like being in the 'Disney bubble' and this is part of the experience. We never really waited long for a bus but sometimes they would be crowded since it is such a large resort, but I have had that almost every resort we have stayed in. Thanks for watching :)

How would the Disney Cruise buses take you to Disney World? That doesn't make any sense
We're going there in March. Sounds like we'll be staying in the Alligator Bayou as well because we're a family of five. Did you make any room requests at check-in, or take what they gave you? Someone told me to ask to be near a bus stop. EVERYONE told me to check out Yeehaw Bob Jackson.
Yes, we requested Magnolia bend and no one told us it was not possible. After we arrived and found out where we would be, I found out that the people you speak to when making those types of requests don't work in the resorts and many times don't know. It was a bummer, but we ended up loving the area we were in! If you are going to be eating in the food court or wanting a fill up in your mug on the way to the parks, I would recommend making a request for where we were. It was a quick walk to the FC and there is a bus stop right by the main building. We heard the same about Yeehaw Bob, but never made it to see him... Hope you have a great time!!!

Do you ship the box directly to the resort? And the front desk will hold for you? I think this is a good money saving idea.
Yes, we ship to "Your Name (arrival date xx/xx/xx c/o Your Resort" and ship to the resort's address. Place your order about 10 days prior to your arrival to make sure it gets there on time. They will hold it and just go by and pick it up when you arrive. It has been a great money saver for us!!! thanks for watching :)

Hi there! If you have an Amazon Prime membership then you have access to their pantry. it is really easy to use, you just choose items you want and it shows as you fill the fox up. Once it is full or you just have all you want, then it ships for $5.99. Ship it to 'Your Name (Date of Arrival XX/XX/XX) co. Your Resort; Resort Address'. They will hold it at the front desk for you to pick up when you arrive. I would recommend shipping about 10 days prior to your arrival in case they have delivery delays.
