*Note - no flying directly over the flight deck was done while the ship had civilians on deck** out of respect for the guests as well as obvious safety.

My dad was part of the original crew of the USS Lexington - he was called a "plank walker" and boarded up in Quncy Shipyards near Boston. He served from 1943-1945. My dad passed in 2007 and we scattered part of his ashes on the flight deck.

WOW. I think this is genuinely one of the prettiest things I've ever seen in my life. Lexington is truly beautiful. Something about the SCB-125 angled deck add-on to the old Essex-class is just amazing. IN THE MOST STUNNING 4K I'VE EVER SEEN. That definition is truly something. I genuinely teared up because this ship was my childhood and having just found this video now . . . wow. Definitely worth sharing! So underrated!

Thank you for such a wonderful tribute. The Lexington (CVT-16/AVT-16) was my second home when I enlisted. I was proud to serve onboard from 1977-1980. Met shipmates who were my brothers and still are to this day. She was and still is a grand Lady..

It's hard to think to myself when seeing those ww2 scenes of the USS Lexington and say to myself "I've been in that ship before.."

I spent 3 nights on that ship a few years ago when I was in AFJROTC. Beautiful ship, that one. You can still see some battle damage on the starboard side. Bullet holes, dents, scuffs and scratches. The AA guns still work when it comes to traversal and elevational movement. Not sure about the bigger guns on the flight deck though. Pretty sure the ship can still turn on as well if I remember correctly. Engine bay seemed mostly intact.

tbh modern destroyers is like a kids drawing of a battle ship and old destroyers are more complicated to draw
I mean look at one of the American destroyers its like an ice cream up side down and its sharp end is catted off

I spent about two hours that night trying to get as many photos as I could because of the fog the best wind conditions I saw the whole week I was there etc. but if you would like to see more photos let me know I can send you the link :-) but I was pretty happy with the final result of that thumbnail picture :-) the contrasting blue versus the greens etc. the ocean etc.
