Thing of it is...this is just a great song. The structure, the cadence, the counterpoint, the dynamics. I remember when I was a teenager and my mom hated heavy metal in the early 1980s. She was a music teacher (band instruments). She heard Fade to Black and sat down and said, "My god. That's an amazing song." She did not like the distortion on the guitars, but she could see the brilliance in the fundamental song. At that point, she said, "These are great composers." When she heard "One" a few years later, she just shook her head and said, "This is brilliant." She died many years ago now, and loved to play Metallica songs on the piano. She could transpose them by ear. It was remarkable. This was before the CZcams Age, but I can only imagine this 60-something year old woman would have had a lot of views with her piano arrangements. James, Kirk, Lars et al are nothing less than modern day Beethovens and Mozarts. They are that good.
Elmo Blatch This is truly amazing
That is so awesome my man!
Elmo Blatch stahp
Wow!!!!!! That is awesome!!!! And so true !!!!!
That has brought me to tears!!!!
that's double pedal makes me happy... bravo lars
gman57op you’re absolutely correct man lars is the most underrated drummer on planet earth !
Yeah Lars Urlich is drumming here like hell
@@sudiptoaichbhowmik i know it must be so hard to do that and hit the snare at the same time always in tempo too
It doesn't matter what my mood is, this song gets to me every single time.
Matthew Clarke yep a cleansing of the soul and an escape from all the madness going on in ur life at the time! it helps 2 clear ur mind ya know?
Absolutely! One of those rare songs that transports me to another place :-)
Matthew Clarke thanks
In the world of ambitions,a way to go to the clear madness
Matthew Clarke And me Matthew ✋ One of my Favourite Metallica Songs ...Excellent
Ever since hardwired Lars’ and Kirk’s performances have stepped up so much, especially Lars. James’ voice is also on fire these days man
Dylan Murphy can not argue that!
Lars is quite the overplayer tho...
Many people don’t like James voice since he doesn’t sing with the gruffness he used to, but I think my favorite parts of Metallica songs lyrics-wise he’s gotten better on. Like in this video, his singing of that last ‘goodbye’. In the 2009 Mexico City concert that they filmed and also sold as a sort of movie, he rocked enter sandman as well.
Can't wait till he comes back to Ireland slane
well...the solo in this performance was really bad lol
5:05
Gotta be the best feeling ever. Playing a riff and having thousands of people sing it. That’s my dream summed up in a collective “Oh ah oh oh uh oh oh oh”.
This intro solo was the closest to the Studio version I've ever heard. Great feeling.
I think this is the best Lars performance! He's a beast
The 80's
I think Lars's best concert was Metal Hammer 1985, just my opinion. But you're right, this is the best Fade to Black performance. Vienna was so lucky to get them all in top shape.
Crowd singing with them so beautiful 😭
The melody in this song, I consider it one of if not the best I ever heard
There is this bird that plays some Metallica covers on the piano. It is amazing how well constructed some songs are.
2:55 Nice Kirk
4:38 Looks perfect pitching from Lars
Really. Nice, Kirk!
Paloma Medeiros you buetyful girl sis *-*
What do you mean by pitching?
That was literally perfect. I want more of this Lars. This performance beats all of them 80's, 90's, 00's (of Fade to Black i mean). Much love.
Anytime this song comes on, I get goosebumps and chills down my spine... Fade to Black a legendary song by a legendary band and 33+ years later it’s still beautiful! #ForeverFadingAway
I'm a simple man, I see a new Metallica video I press LIKE! HAPPY SUNDAY FAM!
Vernon Salisbury Happy Sunday to you brother\m/
Fam , are you a road brother ? My guy !!!!
@@yermaw447 always my brother
My favorite Metallica's song ! With kirk and lars who improved a lot, they are becoming beasts again ! James and Rob perfect as usual...
Awesome, perfect !
Crowd reactions are always so enjoyable!
Lars is really feeling it. It's good that he's improving at this level.
Lars has been kicking as since Hardwired!
Vernon Salisbury Lars has been kicking ass since Kill 'em All
Woahwoahwoah
Let's not get too ahead of ourselves here.
Nah. ;-;
A lot of butt-hurt whiners here.. Pathetic.
I always though RTL was Lars best work. It was a huge step from KTA production and tonality wise. He took lessons from joe satriani's drummer while Kirk took lessons from Satch after the KEA tour.
Who cares if the solos aren't exactly as they were on the album that's some insane guitar playing
Austin Marcott yes it is good guitar playing. But this song has probably one of the best solos of all time. We just want to hear it live sometime.
he's played it like on the album so many times back in the 80's that he's probably got sick of it by now - tho his improv are never going to top that solo ( maybe the one at San Diego in '92 but thats my opinion)
sd sf The solo on the album was completely improvised by kirk
For 30 years. Its kinda boring to play the same shit every tour
Cheekii_breekii every solo is improvised
I kinda like the clean electric tone more than the acoustic.
yea same, even though there's not a huge difference
kebab well there's that ultimate chorus and a bit of reverb clean that sounds so iconic
Skull more bell-like, acoustic sounds like rubber bands
Nubshooter well yeah, but still
Same
That solo kirk !!!
The transition to that fast part after the improvise wasn't the best but it was really great overall
This is the best performance of this song hands down. And I've listened to most of em! Not even Seattle tops this!!
Woah, i just want to sleep, but before sleep i want to hear fade to black first, and then youtube notified me that MetallicaTV uploaded this video
Kirk nailed this...
5starcomment lol
No he didn't Xd Just look at a 2009 to 2014 performances, from there it goes down
Will Weems "kind of lost". i would rather say "improvisation". Guitarists have the liberty improvise live. Some metal fans want to hear exact studio versions of songs live but some musicians think otherwise.
Nah, he did get lost. If you know how he usually plays the solo, you'd know he tried out some avant garde shit, realised it sounded like garbage and tried to segue his way back trying to remember which part of the arpeggio he was supposed to be on.
@@ameer_saban spot on! He was improvising... and really bad i may add
dont get me wrong i love kirk but this solo was awfull period.
My all time favorite song from Metallica. I know I'm not alone in this, but this song has gotten me through many, many hard times in my life. I have listened to it at least twice a day, every day (sometimes more depending on things) since November 13, 1994, the day i tried to kill myself and only stopped because this song came on the radio on a station that had no business playing it. I truly thank you Metallica for gifting me, and many others, this song. A song the gives strength when you feel as though you have none.
Put some headphones on and listen to that slight bass tone by Rob... Damn hypnotic.
Metallica is the best
This version at Vienna has been my lullaby every night before going to sleep now for the past 3 weeks ....thank you James,Kirk,Lars and Rob.... Thank you Metallica...as I slowly fade to sleep
no words. that was fucking epic
How da hell they play so good in this age
Rafid Ahmed raw, unadulterated talent.
Pure talent
Age is just a number.
Because metallica is life.
Rafid Ahmed He won’t be able to do this into his 60d
That fucking solo at the end. That is why i love metallica. When people ask me that i should introduce them to metallica i swear to god. I get so fucking confused. There are just too many career defining moments this band has.
Yep i get what you mean. If i had to choose, i'd say fade to black and one are probably the two that show their full capabilities in one song
Life it seems to fade away
Drifting further everyday
Getting lost within myself
Nothing matters no one else
I have lost the will to live
Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free
Things not what they used to be
Missing one inside of me
Deathly loss this can't be real
Cannot stand this hell I feel
Emptiness is filling me
To the point of agony
Growing darkness taking dawn
I was me but now, he's gone
No one but me can save myself, but its too late
Now I can't think, think why I should even try
Yesterday seems as though it never existed
Death greets me warm, now I will just say goodbye
Goodbye
I always felt like the solo at the end, after he says goodbye to life and thus has nothing more to lose, actually represent a cry of war against death. As if only after he's reached rock bottom and thinks he has nothing more to live for, he suddenly finds true strenght and the will to fight for his life. After he has given up on everything he is, he's finally free of everything that was bringing him down as well, and as a new and free person he can now summon this wordless, raw strenght. I don't know if this was the intended meaning, but that's how I've always lived this song.
Metallica I love you!!!
*🖤Growing darkness taking dawn🖤*
The Metallica Girl I was me but now he's gone
NO ONE BUT ME... CAN SAVE MYSELF BUT... IT'S TOO LATE
Now i can't think , think why i should even try
Yesterday seems as though it never existed
The Metallica Girl death greats me warm, now I can just say goodbye
Perfect. The beginning solo, all 9f larses parts where spot on, James was as always perfect, and Rob was just a monster. He always is.
This song saved my life from destruction. Its a masterpiece because it touch your life.
Maybe the best live version of this song... here we go...
There is something I can't really describe with James' voice in this performance and it's damn great!
Thumbs up..Kirk Hammet with that guitar..sounds so good...Kirk always my favourite rock/metal guitar player
Incredible how this song sounds better now than in the 80's.
Jean Ferreira Cabral bro listen to Seattle 1989
@@arvindshastry1178 No, he's right. This one tops 'em all. It's the perfect performance.
@@magnumdong8437 Lars's drumming was better in the 80s and James's voice was better in 80s and Seattle 1989 is one of the best Metallica concert
Fade to black has something so magical to it... It's a darnk song, it speaks about serious matters... but It makes you feel safe, like a warm hug from your mother. It's just magic.
Loving the performances lately. Awesome!
LARS 😲
Even after 100 years this song will still be one one of the best ballads of heavy metal music and thats the reason why Metallica are by far the best heavy metal band that ever existed.
Fade to Black is just an amazing song. This song, One, The Unforgiven and Sanitarium all follow somehow like the same structure and arrangement. This is true melodic and dynamic metal. Every time I try to teach someone about Metallica, I put this song or one those I mentioned above. And the lyrics are so dark that they reach you. I really love Metallica.
Metallica Forever 🎸
Great Song 🔥
Last time I was this early, I won the race against the other sperms
Arshad A LOL
Except you werent first nobody was. Most sperm die of exhaustion breaking through the egg. We had all the hard work done for us.
Haven’t heard that one before, nice
Fury who you talking to
Josh1301 uh the comment, duh
When the crowd started singing before the solo i got fucking goosebumps. This is what music does to people, brings complete strangers together. Amazing...
With this video, for me, it's like being in the crowd... I love this
6:00 insane. best of fade to black all time.
The end of start
facts
This one is one of the best, but search Fade to Black Seattle '89
Giovanna Sandes I think the 1984 (or ‘85, I cant remember) version at the Metal hammer festival had the best outro solo.
Can you hear us cliff
Som Peake no he's dead
Som Peake some do Peake to the point of ageana
somebody toucha my mom's spaghett
maybe he watch youtube alot??? who knows....
FADE TO BLACK is my favourite song ever!!!
I love you, Metallica!
You are the best!
I listen this when a have 14 years old. Im 43. Metallica was by Best company when I was teenager. Thank you guys for epic moments alone in my dark room surrender by emptnisse. ✌️🖤
METALLICA ends all wars and brings everyone together.
Amazing mix! Very nice version and Lars double pedals. 😎😋🤗🤗
This performance is brilliant. It's stunning. The composition of the track originally is sheer unique brilliance, but this modem live version is something else. It's mind blowing that tracks like this are written when the artists are so young and hold up so well.
James geting his gear stolen was one of the best things that ever happened to the band.
THE BEST MUSIC!!! THE BEST BAND!!!
Kirk's Solo!!!!!!!!
wow! what a great audience..they singing along at end with guitar riff..gave me chills. hair standing up on my arm. well done VIENNA!!!!
finally a crowd that actually shows passion and love
Tears. Just amazing. Prob my fav performance of this song that they have ever done. Vienna you did your part 👏 ❤️.
After 30 years of listening to this Song, I can truly say it never gets old, never loses it's power , meaning or all round Metallic brutal assault on the senses, BIRTH SCHOOL METALLICA DEATH
James sounds so goooood
I'm from Brazil and watched the Metallica in my country in 1999. Great show!
The best performance of Fade to black to date! Kirk and Lars were ON FIRE!!!
Respect from the biggest Megadeth fan. Pure chills!
Perfect!
I come to this song over and over again since I was 10.. just to listen Kirk's intro❤
A beautiful masterpiece of a song, one of my all time favorites.
Greetings from Brazil! We love you!
LOVE THIS SONG
still coming back to this performance, theres something about it
5:05 that... give me a total goosebumps. I approve that singing crowd ;)
Hearing this with James Hetfield playing acoustic mixed with electric in the background of it is very unique to me I really like it excellent job guys
Moving lyrics thanks God we have James and Lars!
Fade to Black is the song Metallica always nails live... personally my favorite song too!
This was probably THE MOST beautiful and amazing performance Metalica has ever done!
Especially the crowd singing like a chorus
Love this song Brothers
Still play it how I like it
Wow... I never even noticed I get goosebumps every time.... this is the single greatest song the world ever produced
James did a AWESOME Job on this performance and so did everybody
Lars busting out some monster fills! Nice.
Lars drumming sounds awazing here. My question is, why he doesn't play double bass on songs like Spit Out the Bone? I think this song's double bass is way longer than the one on spit out the bone, so, why Lars?
The song list for every concert is 20 plus.He is being choosy I suppose.
It’s 18 songs per show and Spit Out The Bone is a more intense song from start to finish where this one is a gradual build into the explosive outro. Granted someone of his age I can understand but he is also just lazy 🤷🏻♂️ thankfully this tour he really did pick things up.
Best band ever. Who can do this for so long and still sound great live? METALLICA....
Best fade to black for years...happy I was there
Best song
Cameron Cunningham, For Whom The Bell Tolls best.
Gracias por ser lo que que son.
Claro perro son sicodelicos
This was purely AMAZING!
When the crowd joins in it goes other worldly. Wow
Last 5 vidz or so, Kirk's wearing the same pants. Anyone think he lost his wardrobe with the other 15 pairs 😂
kirk superb 😈
I can't lie, this song live has been sooo good this tour
You can really tell Metallica is the most in sync band ever. Legendary.
Eu perdi a vontade de viver
Simplesmente nada mais a oferecer
Não há nada mais para mim
Preciso do fim para me libertar
Anyone notice James mess up at 1:16? He definitely did based on the looks on his face😂 nobody is perfect but he is damn close
Out of this world!! "Where to miss?" ...."to the stars"
Fuckin' almost 40 years later and this song will still beat the shit outta anything coming out these days!
Please some Eye of The Beholder,The Thing That Should not be,Phantom Lord,Trapped Under Ice,All Nightmare long,My Apocalypse some great forgotten tunes out there :(!!!
Delicious
No termino de entender porque le dan dislike a esta obra maestra
...
One of their best "Fade to Black" performances
Is it just me or did the audio quality on these videos significantly improve ever since their April show in Germany? Everything sounds so crisp and the tone is incredible!
