Hey guys! Today we are going to try to recreate the Decocrated box and its $200 value at Homegoods and Tj-Maxx! You did a great job! The items from HomeGoods you picked blew the subscription box out of the ballpark! Decocrated could definitely make changes to better their service, the items just don’t reflect the cost of the box, the quality just isn’t there.

You're right, if they want to go small, they should definitely send higher quality items. More intricate or heck, why not throw in the candles for the candle holder!!!
Agreed on the higher quality but umm we live in the south & you can't mail real candles when it's 100°+ everyday.
I bought a couple of pillar candles the other day, threw them in my trunk not thinking & in the 25 or so minutes it took me to get home, they were all melted together. They'd have to ship them in those refrigerated boxes lol.
@@pagecarlee626 The candle holder that Decocrated had sent included a warning sticker claiming not to be suitable for flame candles. One can easily find battery powered candles for 10-15$ at home stores and therefore Decocrated could have sent them, making the supposed box value a bit more worthwhile.
@@pagecarlee626 I received candle from others subscription box without any issue , and I am leaving in Canada, and they are from California .. not see your point at all. Fabfitfun often have candle in them options and I doubt my box goes to a refrigerated box.
@@luciole781 the south is !00% way hotter than Cali or Canada with the heat index in the summer. stuff that gets shipped to you in the winter may end up frozen during shipping where they would not be in the southern winter.
@@bbhaspots8975 I mean, not really. California definitely gets above 100F in the summer too. I mean, Death Valley (one of the HOTTEST places in the US) isn't in the South.
I would totally lose the Decocrated box! It’s really a waste of money….you could totally find another subscription box that is better, i love your unboxings and especially your opinions and reviews. I agree that like personally I’d get rid of decocrated but also I love her recreation videos so If she wants to keep doing them just for our entertainment and mockery I wouldn’t mind lol 😆 but obviously that’s her choice lol

Home decor is such an odd subscription, how could their products work in a variety of home styles? The products they provide are just cheap modern crap, most folks want timeless decor.
I would love to see a wedding sub box!
There's also the added value of being able to choose your own things. I would much rather spend $200 or $90 or even $50 on things that I know I'm going to love than end up with things I might hate or feel indifferent about. I like that you had a companion on your shopping trip to help you choose.
Plus you get a chance to choose exactly (or more nearly) what is your choice, or style!
Yup. That weird plaid pumpkin and the same plaid on the sign, they would've gone immediately to Goodwill. I'd rather find something I love, and every house is different with different tables and nooks, that only certain things would work in.
if they took their original concept and then marked up the items a bit, with the added option of options in general, would be a decently lucrative business model for a short while as long as the convenience is there, money is to be made

So it took me a few minutes to process the decorate box. I was trying to figure out where I've seen similar signs (two pumpkins, reversible sign, Autum frame) and I realized it. The Dollar Spot at Target has similar items ranging from $1-$5 (I think average $3/each). For those three items alone def not over $15 total. I've seen similar tiered trays in the Dollar Spot as well (think valentines and Christmas time). Even the garland similar quality no more than $10. I would be disappointed that a sub box would cost that much for so little value and then to read the leaflet stating over $200 in value. While the items you bought were bigger than what would normally come in a sub box, def more worth your money when you have plans to use at your store (totally awesome idea by the way). I think your video reminds me why I don't get sub boxes... but love watching your videos on them 🤣🤣🤣 call me crazy. I started watching last year with the advent calendars and I just can't stop watching now. You crack me up, Ryn and Tater are so cute, and I just enjoy your fun easy going attitude, even if you think you're struggling. Struggle is real friend!! I may not comment much but know I do enjoy your channel and thank you because it helps me destress from my day at work!!

I love these videos. You’re proving that they’re literally only sending you $90 worth of stuff like it’s not a $200 value. They stuff they are sending is the value that you’re paying for the box. I love all the things you picked out. I also love the Wren was in this video. I just put my fur baby down last night and seeing wren helped the hurt a little ❤️
I don't think the box was even $50 worth of stuff tbh. So far I found a $20 candle holder that is very close to the one in the box, a similar pair of pumpkin cut outs for $6, way nicer framed signs for $7-$15, small wooden shelf sitting signs range from $6-$12, faux eucalyptus garland $6. So that's a range of $45-$59 value. Absolute rip off. *edit* forgot the tiered tray. It looks basic and poor quality, so I'd say $12-20 range. So I guess it's almost $90.
When decocrated first started they would have huge boxes! I just think something happened with them and they are struggling. It’s sad but on the other hand you can’t keep saying the value is $200 or more when it’s clearly not. When you go out to do the $200 value don’t worry about size or anything. Just get what you want :) I’ve said it many times but I watch your channel for you and the good vibes, I’ll watch you no matter what kinda content u post. Always want you to do what makes you feel good. Love the stuff you picked.
It's too bad about subscription boxes in general. The concept is fun, but it seems like the business model is just barely sustainable. Every type of box that I am aware of is in trouble or not living up to their supposed value.

I agree. And Decocrated has no business claiming a retail value anyway, because their stuff is made to their specifications at a factory in China. This is why it’s so similar each month and why the quality is so poor.
I would love to see a $200 value recreation that COULD actually be in a sub box. Maybe your take on the 5-6 things that you get in the box and then for the balance, things that would add to or complement what they send. Since the magazine seems to suggest things that you may have to go out and buy anyway.
OR taking the $200 and buy stuff that could be sent in a box but don't have to have anything to do with the items in the box?

When you pulled out that "stack of pumpkins" my first thought was "it's an autumn snowman!" just throw a scarf and little top hat on that and you can use it again for winter. Bonus! Definitely a better $200 haul than the box - for that much money DecoCrate is charging, and the size of the items, the quality they deliver should be better. Even your $90 comp was better Autumn decorations than the description box.

Sometimes when I tell the cashier abt a flaw, I feel more comfortable when I let them also know that there wasn’t another one and that I wanted to buy it still and then if they say they can’t give me a discount at all I just reply with “okay, it’s no problem.”
Any store is allowed to give a discount on almost any item. There's CZcams videos on it. My sister does it a lot. I'm always nervous to ask!!
I just bought a ghost from Dollar General like a week ago and the battery cover was missing and the whole thing came unglued (which wasnt a huge deal because i knew i could glue it back in). I couldnt find this ghost at any other store so I decided I was going to buy it, but also mentioned it to the cashier. She asked me if I wanted a discount and I said if I could get one that would be awesome. She walked into the office behind the registers and all I heard was oh OK, oh! And she walks back out and says that's how it's suppose to be and shows me where the on off switch button is 🤦♀️ I don't know what she told her manager but I assume the manager thought I told her something about the try me button on it. I told her no, there's suppose to be a plastic cover on it so the batteries didn't fall out and then I showed her it was completely unglued. I wasn't expecting a huge discount, but I mean a dollar off or something would have been nice. I was very irritated though with the manager saying it was suppose to come like that 🙄 this ghost was $18.

I'd rather see what you find for $90 or what you find for $200!!! That way we see your taste in products, and see the actual things we can get for the actual price!! I definitely like both of your recreations over what you were sent! I know darn well the stuff you were sent wasn't worth the money you spent on the box itself. I worked in a "bargain" store. The owner bought palettes of goods from retailers for pennies on the dollar, then we cleaned up the stuff, marked it up, and sold it. These subscription companies are ripping people off because they get bulk discounts but don't pass along their savings. The "value" of those boxes is probably closer to what they paid for a case of each item.

As someone who worked retail, if you were nice to me, I’d give you 15% off a damaged item if they asked. If you were a Karen™️ I’d give you 10% off if they asked
I appreciate the recognition that a person can point out a problem without being a "Karen". I've heard people say "I couldn't complain about it because I'd be a Karen" and I think that's a shame. It's OK to point out problems or ask for something as long as you're nice.
If you put a piece of wood over the back of the ghost sign to cover up the light stuffs, those ghost would be a pretty good shape to like paint the back as fall leaves and write sweater weather on the bottom. And and boom your signs reversible too.

I think the comparison is fair because you are paying the retail price in your recreations, so the values should be equal. I like your decorative videos. Rather than trying to match item to item, maybe you could do a video where you take a subscription box's theme and see what you would curate from Maxx Goods and compare that with what you get in an unboxing.
Ooh I love the stack of white pumpkins "statue"!! Both your recreations were sooooo much more visually appealing than Decocrated. Though if I'm being totally honest...I think I preferred the small 2 sided Fall/Halloween sign from Decocrated to your lit ghost one, but heck that's just personal choice 😊xx

I swear EVERYTHING that comes out of EVERY decocrated box can be bought at my local Dollar General. DG now has that "Boujee" home decor section and a lot of their stuff is super cute for very reasonable prices. I could ABSOLUTELY recreate the entire decocrated box for half the price and would look great, would be something people would want to put in their house, and would look like it was worth way more than it actually cost. That box is such a rip off and I'd be super mad that I paid that much money for something I could get better of at the Dollar General.
I love your substitutions! I'm now obsessed with scouring Home Goods near me for that Boo sign...I MUST HAVE IT! Overall, I feel that Deocrated is overrated and way over priced. Granted, it comes right to your door and you don't have to shop, BUT...there is so much fun inventory in store! It'd be great to watch another CZcamsr unbox Decocrated, make a list of the items, and go shop for similar, but better stuff :)

Always love the home decor videos! I think the two in one foliage candle holder was a great idea. I think that if they focused on quality and less about quantity, the box could be great. They could do a 2 in 1 decor item, a sign, and a tray and call it a day as long as its great quality.
Oh hon I thought that was so overpriced and underwhelming. And I was saying to my family that we will not be getting this box. Your finds are so much better and you know that they got it a very big discount.

I thought I'd like subscription decor boxes, but I discovered that I really only liked receiving the package, not it's contents. So, I set a quarterly budget for myself and I shop online for home decor. I get the thrill of waiting for, tracking and receiving a package, but it contains pieces I love because I picked them out. Win, win!
I've found that I get 2-3 times the amount of items for about the same price as some subscription boxes. And I get the added thrill of shopping sales, hunting for and using coupon codes.
The pumpkin stack would look so neat if the center one had a little orangey flannel print or woven design on it too! I can picture it in my mind's eye 🎃

I loved Honey I Blew Up the Kids when I was a teen. I was obsessed with that movie and watched it over and over.
Even though the $200 recreation isn't an exact match, you still matched the spirit of each item and honestly it goes a long way to show you what you COULD be getting for that value. It says a lot that you can recreate the box for $90 with similarly sized but much better quality items or that you can opt to spend the supposed value of the items and also get higher quality items but also more substantial items. Any way you slice it, decocrated is not worth the price tag.

I will say, I like that the greenery is green and not fall colors because you can use it all year. You can switch it up each season by adding something cheaper but seasonal in color to it.
It can also be used as a center decoration for long rectangular tables if you ever seen those in the fall or some weddings they have that too where they have all the decoration foliage running in the center of these big long banquet tables beautiful

Granted, the creators couldn't put the large items into a box, but with everything available out there, they certainly could have upgraded the smaller items.

Your $90 curation is so much better then theirs! I like the $200 curation as well. My family had a wooden sign that was painted to be a stack of 3 pumpkins on one side and then a snowman on the other side :) your white pumpkins reminded me of that - they're cute!
