I just love the internet, almost anything you're ever curious about, someone has made a video about it
Thankyou for this video
I feel the same ^_^
Same here! I am learning from youtube things that we weren't taught at school well.
@KalinaSky Permenter yup very tuff
Ya

Been reading a lot of history books, and have constantly been procrastinating about what AD/BC/BCE/CE means and how it works. Ahahah, thank you for this!
Glad it was helpful!
Teachers make it seem sooo complicated. When really it can be summed up in a 5 minute video lmao
I’ve been studying philosophy and I’ve never known what the difference was either 😭😂
after 12 years of school with history, I never knew what these meant, just took a 6min video from youtube to understand this very clearly Thank you!!
Oh, so this whole concept isn't actually that confusing to understand. Thank you for the straight forward explination
Straightforward but wrong in places. No Year 0 and Jesus being born 5-6 BCE.

Thank you for this accurate explanation. A lot of people believe that BCE and CE have "officially replaced" BC and AD, but they haven't. They have been "officially included" as labels in the numbering system. I'm an historian and still use BC and AD for my publications.
this made so much more sense that what my teacher told us

Exactly
czcams.com/video/eEehdvHa51Y/video.html good
Our history teacher never told these things to us... That's why Im so confused reading history years not knowing what comes first..
Isn't pretty much self explanatory?
This is the first time in 40 years that I've notice someone put AD before the number. I've always heard it as like, "1000 AD".
On the Apollo 11 plaque it says "Here men from planet earth first set foot upon the moon July 1969 A.D." So even nerdy types get it wrong occasionally! 🤓 🤣
Not ad first. No. Nooo. No.

I must say the way you explained everything is absolutely phenomenal. Thank you!
Wow, thank you!
Explained in 5 min while my teacher took 40 min.
I have to explain this every semester (I am a professor of ancient history) and from now on I'll just use this video.
I'll confess that I still think it's strange and sad that college do not come into college already knowing such basic information.
I wathed this vidio only to explain my proffeser

Every time I see "BCE" & "CE" I read that this person possibly cares more about their own politics than actual history, science, & truth. I'd like to ask them how they feel about changing the names of the months or even the days of the week - since many of those also originate from ancient religions.
What political agenda from 1708?
@@andrewhannam. Just the Christophobic one 9-)
@@carlpeters8690 you do realize that you proved your original accusation in relation to yourself. The idea and use of CE/BCE was presented by Christians and used by Abrahamic religious scholarship. Dionysius Exiguus made an error with the calculations of AD and BC.
Furthermore the months have been changed before by the additions of new ones (September for example was the seventh month) and naming, the weeks names have also changed names (French for example still uses the Roman god names and English the Anglo-Saxon god names for example).
On another note we could use the date for 2024 as 5785 as the creation of the world date.... or 1445 AH (Anno Hajiri)....
@@andrewhannam. It seems you either don't understand or are misconstruing my objection. I'm (mostly) with Lindybeige and Metatron on this one. (Whenever I add links to their videos my reply disappears so you'll have to look those up)

Knew the BC, AD system. Had a hunch on the BCE, CE. I was right. Just a secular correlation.
So it's been this simple all the while I've hesitated many many yrs to try and learn the different yrs thinking all the abbreviations meant different things! You explained it absolutely perfectly! Ty!
Well done @History Skills.
This made so much sense instantly your a wonderful teacher because I couldnt understand why they even tried to start it backwards in the first place. Could you do a video explaining the BP time era
Thanks so much for the comment. I did do a video on the BP dating system, which can be found here: czcams.com/video/6DAtHMnkgnU/video.html
The emphasis about AD is highly appreciated which had mislead me to be "After Death" since my high school subject World History is very enlightening aside from knowing their new designations as BCE and CE...

Thanks for the explanation.
You made it So much easier to understand.
So what else would they be offended with?
Days of the week or months of the year.
These were also named after pagan gods and deities. It has religious affinity.
Should we prepare for new names to replace them?
If BCE & CE are anchored on the same events that necessitated BC & AD, why bother with the change.
I don’t think it was about them being offended, but rather not believing in Christianity since it goes very much against worldwide scientific beliefs.
Because their are christians that still believe the world was created 2000 years ago. Lmao.
@@s3renity690 ok... So what about days and months named after pagan gods? Are they ok with paganism? Does paganism align with empirical scientific proof judging from your comment. (This isn't an attack on your comment by the way.)
One day there would also be a cogent reason to challenge the alpha numeric symbols we use because of their religious affinity ... At least these aren't christain.
🤔🤔🤔
@@ziizee4614 The reasons are mostly historical; that dating system was in common use in Europe for many centuries, and European colonization spread their calendar around the world. While religious belief has faded somewhat in the modern world (although it’s still probably more prevalent than you think), things like dating systems are pretty hard to change since they’re so ingrained in a culture. So no one changes it.
Academics have made a move towards BCE and CE as a way to keep the dates but simply remove the religious component. I feel like most people who refer to the months or days don’t think about the pagan gods, that is if they even know it’s associated with them.
In addition, it’s hard to imagine anyone to not think about Christianity when they say “Before or after Christ,” ya know?
@@s3renity690 then why not make a new Calendar and derived it to Darwin for Atheist? LMAO
Thank you for this. I just started my history major and this channel seems very useful.
Glad to hear it!
Wouldn’t AB make more sense? Anywho you did an awesome job explaining this. Liked and subscribed🙏🏾
What does the "common era" have in common?
My exact question/thought while watching this. Are certain people really that desperate to get rid of the memory of Christ?
