  • So, the fact that this song is about her own hugely personal struggles, and is coupled with being performed on the day Kobe Bryant, his daugher and 7 others died in a helicopter accident, at the Staples Centre where Koby made himself a legend in the sports world, I'm surprised she got through this performance at all!
Authenticity & Vulnerability in spades! Bravo!
Also apologies for singing 'Anywhere'. Codeine Lyfe i'm afraid.
ALSO ALSO! Apologies for the blurry/not blurry/blurry again camerawork! Stupid Autofocus! shakes fist
ALSO ALSO ALSO! I've edited the bits where I talked about Kobe and the tragedy out. It was never supposed to be the focus of why she was so raw emotionally, however I can see how it could come across that way. I merely wanted to pay tribute and bring attention that performing in the Venue that he made his name, on the day he died, would be a really intense experience. I still stand by my sentiments, however, I've taken them out so the focus is fully on Demi's vocal. Thanks and sorry if i've upset anyone x

Great video. Just wish a little more research had been done before the analysis... She wrote and recorded this song 4 days before overdosing and almost losing her life. This is her first appearance since that happened two years ago. She has been struggling with addiction and an eating disorder all her life, and had recently relapsed on 7 years of sobriety. So the song talks about relapse, being lonely, screaming for help and having no one listen to you. It was a cry for help and right after that everything went downhill. I feel that knowing this whole context was super important to the analysis of the song, its depth and meaning, and because it wasn't there it felt a little incomplete. But thank you, learned lots from it and from your takes!

      Giovanna Zeloni totally fair comment!
I try my hardest to keep away from any research incase I spoil anything for myself (so many descriptions nowadays are a little too in depth, and if I read something I’d just be waiting for it, if that makes sense!)
I did a little bit of research as I was editing and it gave the emotions in the song such a weight, I’d have loved to do over, but I’d just be deceiving everyone and I don’t think that’s fair, so I just put a little bit about it in the description.
      Thanks for watching! 💜

RIP to Kobe & everyone who lost their lives in that horrible crash, however, dude please, next time do your research if you are going to critique such an amazing song and equally breathtakingly beautiful performance.

Also he was still feeling under the weather and opted for doing this video instead of recovering and resting as planned, so I actually really appreciate him taking the time. Sam Scott-Thorne: Session Singer & Vocal Coach Don’t blame you at all, and personally I’d take a genuine first reaction over a do-over or a spoiled review any day! The surprise factor makes it so much more interesting.
Appreciate you taking the time to do this video even while not feeling your best (hope you’re better!), and to reply to me. Keep doing good work. 💛 Would love to see you react to Demi singing “Sober” and/or “Father” some day. 😊

@@giovannarinaldo5238and @SamScott-Thorne what you first wrote had much more truth to it. Spoiling what?? I don't think it was a secret that Demi was in rehab and she overdosed. This song was done day's before it happened. It was all over the news. So to me give a review based on her absolutely mind blowing performance. Her strength, courage and bravery. It was the 1st time she sang publicly and she came out with the most touching and moving song I have heard in a longtime.
Like I said it might have been in the review but I was offended that being a vocal coach or critique, you need to know the depth of pain from which Demi is coming from and her tears where not for Kobe. I am sure the rest was fine. I was just bothered that such a beautiful soul and what she went through was missed and overlooked. I realize that changing it at this juncture would be disingenuous and I get that. I just simply agreed with your comments as they were on point.
***Not trying to bash anyone, just wish that more care was taken because Kobe was another legend that deserved his own spotlight along with all who lost their lives. 2 very different scenarios.

I'd rather stand in absolute aww of this young woman's raw talent and humanity, than to "Stan" another mannequin with perfect "technique" but not a damn word of her own truth. Hats off to Demi for bein so damn strong and inspiring.

I see so many comments about why she wrote this song, I'm sure because he didn't know. But I actually appreciate that he didn't know the backstory of this song before critiquing it. Because his judgement wasn't influenced by her circumstances, he was able to give a 100% unbiased opinion of her talent instead of giving her sympathy kudos, if that makes sense. I didn't need to know that she even wrote the song (and I didn't) to feel the pain in her voice and know she felt what she was singing. Having struggled with mental illness my whole life this hit me like a ton of bricks and I didn't need to know any of that it to feel that way. To me, that is the mark of an amazing song and an amazing singer.

Demi is an underrated singer. She wrote this song at a distressing time in her life why she obviously was so emotional. I must say I'm proud of her getting through that performance. She's such a pro and extricated it very well I must say. I like how she honed in on the belts bc she wanted to show the point of her pain inside esp when she was writing it at the time. Plus she had come out as gay and how distressing it must've been to have to tell your parents. Anyway, I must be honest here. Although I didn't agree with some of your analysis I thank you for it. I took poetry in class once and I remember the professor saying to always do your research on why the Author wrote the poem. It helped to understand the meaning behind it. I'm sure you know what you're doing though. 💝😘

She wrote this, 4 days, before her near fatal overdose.. I don't know if people understand, how close to death she was. Couldn't feel a pulse, when the paramedics arrived.. She died twice in the ambulance.. When she arrived to the hospital, they coded her 2 more times.
They, medical staff and her family, truly thought, she was going to die. Went to the ICU, living, only, because she was on a ventilator.
I'm so happy she lived! We all are!! I just hope, she doesn't go back to what broke her.

I feeel like you're using quite a lot of technical words for the sake of it, not that it's not correct but overkill. First video I've watch of yours and I can't see myself watching more, sounds like there's no real passion for the way music is meant to make someone feel, just explaining the theory behind it which consequently comes across quite negative.

    She did amazing!
She wrote these words 4 days before she overdosed....she's here and we ALL ARE LISTENING!! SHE'S HERE ...WE HERE U DEMI....ONE HELLA COME BACK HUNNY...I PRAY UR DEMONS ARE FACED..
She sang her ass off....she was feeling every word...I hope I never feel this way she was..

Shut up, I’m sorry. But she’s a PROFESSIONAL singer. She knows that she’s doing. “Mhmm” and “samey” what? If you listen to pop music you will know that most music is Samey. Either way, she was freaking perfect. Demi Lovato is a real and outstanding singer. The best one I’ve ever experienced.

I've got the impression Brits always have a problem with the word 'upset'. Yes, you're getting upset watching somene upset. So? Let it out man, there's not a single problem with expressing emotions.

Her performance had nothing to do with Kobe Bryant and the others dying in that horrible accident. This was all about Demi coming back after her drug overdose a year and a half ago and performing for the first time in a year and a half.
