    What do you reckon? Do you like the design of the GS65, and does a high refresh rate (e.g. 144hz) make a big difference to your buying decision? 🤔

    I love this design.It's actually grown up instead of the older childish designs. This is a laptop I could buy and not be embarrassed to be seen with.
    I'd like to see you go a little more into the cooling aspects of the laptop in future reviews :) With it being so thin it does strike me as a bit of a concern even with a 1060!

    I'm definitely liking the Black and Gold aesthetic. I'm actually looking to buy a new gaming laptop (that will also be used for pretty much the full Adobe suite of products for my work), and this review felt very informational and has me heavily considering this laptop. The fact that it's so light and compact but still powerful is a huge plus for me. Also that refresh rate and sRGB (finally closer to screen accurate colours) gamut sounds really nice for my artistic work.

    It looks great, I loved the black and gold aesthetic and the overall shape. The bezels are nice and small, the i/o is great, and very competitively priced. The one thing that prevented me from buying it...it feels like its built like a toy. While closed, you can lift the corners of the screen up almost 2 inches before it starts to open. The screen flex on this thing is crazy, and with their hinge designs in the past have been known to be a little less sturdy than others. The chassis also felt just...cheap. Sturdy build is a pretty high priority for me, so I ended up not getting the Stealth. But everything else about it seemed pretty great, I just move around a lot and take my laptop with me almost everywhere.

    Thanks for thorough temperature tests :/

  • @IronShredder
    @IronShredder Před 5 lety

    I picked one of these up open-box on eBay a few weeks ago. Stock thermals are mediocre, but can be improved significantly through re-pasting and undervolting the CPU, as well as disabling Intel TurboBoost in order to better stabilize temperatures. Thermal problems out of the way, it's a nice laptop. You might also want to upgrade the storage at some point, because 256 GB (or even 512) won't get you much mileage in today's gaming landscape, unless you only play a handful of games. Also, if battery life is important to you, this one's currently one of the best out there among the thin-and-lights. It's ~80 wH, so if you take proper power-consumption precautions you can get about 5-6 hours of general web-browsing/productivity use out of a single charge.

    +The Tech Chap just watched your old gsync/freesync video (colab with pc centric) and i got a question! I got a fairly new amd system and a good 144hz freesync monitor.. the only thing that needs to be exchanged is the graphics card. I would spend the money and get a 1080ti cuz it dominates all the other graphics cards in that prizerange, but I'm a bit worried that i lose freesync. Since my current graphics card only delivers like 60-90 fps on low graphics in most games wouldnt the 1080ti deliver a smoother experience anyway (with way more fps)? Also you can cap fps in most games so if i set it to 144 (matching the monitor) a 1080ti should deliver them anyway which would make freesync/gsync irrelevant right?

    I bought mine with the 1070 nvidia card and I love it. I typically get 5 hours of battery life while editing videos and doing other tasks. If you plan on playing graphic intense games for long periods of time I would recommend buying from a third party vendor with the liquid metal upgrade and 32gbs ddr4. I've yet to have issues while gaming with the fans on max settings. Auto fan setting will allow it to get to hot and will cause thermal throttling. Just for clarity mine is stock and no heat issues but the games I play dont have the best graphics when compared with games like far cry5. I plan on purchasing farcry5 and testing it out though!

      I would look online at the various QC issues customers are having with Razer laptops. The Asus is meant to be very nice but very poor battery life as the batt is small, may be sn issue for you, the MSI has quite few complaints of build quality.
      I just ordered the new HP Omen 15 with 1070, not quite as thin as the ones you like but similar specs although it does look a little more gamer. But it is fair bit cheaper so might be worth a look.

      @elliotressler4201 Před 5 lety

      Hello. I've actually really struggled with your same problem, and have settled with the MSI GS65. After looking and gaming for about 4 hrs on each I can safely say that it's really up to you. The Razer Blade has a better build quality and looks astounding, but their customer service is a bit poor quality and the laptop, when used for heavy gaming, can boil water. The MSI has slightly better performance (in my opinion), and has better thermals. However, the MSI has a sketchy build quality, and it can bend easily if you try and bend it, but if you take care of your electronics it will last you a long time. I'd go with the MSI, but if you prefer cooking hotdogs while you game, I don't blame you.
