I saw him in Philly a couple weeks ago and through plastic "silver" spoons on stage. He laughed and ended with this bit. Fuckin awesome.

One can only wonder how many other students are now pulling off this very same evil stunt because of this joke. He is very descriptive which gives him his unique style in telling stories. You know that you're in for a good joke when he breaks character and laughs in the process. His podcast is equally as good. Thanks Dan.

I can’t remember how long ago I first heard this clip on Pandora, but for the past year or so, when I’ve been talking to a friend on the phone who uses earbuds while he’s at work, his audio quality has reminded me of this comedy clip. As soon as he picks up and I hear the metallic clacking over everything he says, I think “here come the spoons mf”. 😂
Someone who attacks you with a spoon is a dangerous foe, they come at you with added commitment
Only thing that tops this, is seeing Dan do it live. Especially in a small club. If you run into Dan before the show, put in a request for Dead Squirrel Puppets. Seeing Dan do DSP live is amazing. One of the few times had to keep wiping tears from my eyes throughout the entire bit. If there's something Dan is the master of, it's building a story to the point you're so spent from your laughter constantly ratcheting up, you almost beg for a cigarette and a minute to regain your composure before the next round. ;)

Dan- Loved the new stuff you did in Phoenix. My date was a bump on a log, but she found the homelessness solution very practical. The rest of the set I laughed my ass off, but as we were leaving the club, I had to come out of the closet as a fellow drug lover. I did not get laid but I felt like I dodged a bullet. You’re a great story teller, I forgot the name of your opener but he was hilarious and had a unique style I enjoyed. ✌🏻

You’re lucky you didn’t have a merch area in the New Orleans (I’ve been waiting for you to come down to us for years) I wished I could have given you a white board with here come the spoons m’fer with a nice new glass spoon. Ya lost out. Maybe next time you will have a merch table at your show so spoons won’t show up unannounced
Dan has been telling this same joke for like 13 years lol He doesnt mention on stage before telling the joke that this is one of his well established and older bits? I thought for sure once he mentioned at the start that this was the worst prank he's ever done the crowd would start cheering immediately because they know the bit already.
I thought he only did it on one or two of his original albums. On Timesuck he mentioned how he had to relearn this bit

@LiamLivesOn i just remember hearing this bit all the time on Pandora back in the day and on XM radio's comedy station. I guess thats why it felt much more frequent to me throughout the years lol
Why a spoon?
I've gotten so sick of all the other comedians I used to listen to, then there's this guy. I used to hear this in rotation with bill burr and Joe Rogan and Tom Segura. I never heard him on any of their podcasts. I can't stand any of them now, their shit has run so cold - one sold out to the corporations, one to the grift economy, and the other is just out of funny shit. Dan just put out a special that is as good as anything he's ever done. Something to be said for slow and steady, keeping true to yourself, not getting lost in a scene, etc.
This joke is told a little more nicely here than I remember it, but who cares.
Obviously you were born with a silver spoon in your throat. You're the first comedian I have heard that did not say he was in therapy and the first one that really needs it!
