  • Are you preparing for the new Digital SAT? In this video, I cover everything you need to know about semicolons. Though rarely used in daily life, they're one of the most important punctuations on the test, and once you master the two usages covered, you should be able to tackle questions involving them with ease.
    For a comprehensive overview of all punctuation marks covered on the test, this handout may be helpful: ivyleaguemento...
    If you are having trouble distinguishing between sentences and fragments, this handout may be helpful:

      Sorry my posting schedule has been slow. I've been teaching at an SAT boot camp all summer, so I haven't had much time to film! However, I hope to release another lesson or two in the week before the test, so stay tuned

    I have learned that you shouldnt put any punctuation between a subject and a verb but you just did on 5:55 so is there any exception to the rule

      Good question! Are you talking about the comma before "producing"? No punctuation between the subject and verb is a good rule in most situations, but it only applies to complete conjugated verbs. An -ing form alone is not a complete verb, it's just a participle, and you will often see a comma before it.

    at 5.40 you say that we should separate non essential parts by using commas ,How is it a non essential part? it gives information for what is to come next.Please explain.and also if i read the sentence without the words inside the commas it doesn't make sense. .(there will be 3 commas which part are u saying is non essential?)

    • @ivyleaguementors
      @ivyleaguementors  Před rokem +2

      When I say that the phrase "the study of fungi" is non-essential, I mean that it merely defines the word before it, "mycology." It might be nice information to include, but we could remove it and the sentence would still make sense and be grammatically complete: ". . . she also dedicated herself to mycology, producing more than 350 paintings. . ." Does that answer your question?

    hey I just found your channel. And my test is on June. So can you make a crash course video about important rules in english part? I am only able to get around 670. I wanna get 700 +

      @ivyleaguementors  Před rokem +3

      that's a great idea for a video. unfortunately, i'm very slow at making videos, so i don't think i will be able to get it done before your test next month. i do have a couple of videos in progress at the moment, though, and plan to get at least one up in the next week. and i will definitely keep your crash course concept in mind for the future, so if you have to retake the test later (which i hope you don't need to!) maybe it will be up. thanks for the suggestion!
