Welcome! Today I wanted to show you all how I manage my budworm problem in my garden with the use of BT. Unfortunately, if I don’t stay on top of managing them they would eat ALL my flowers! Those darn budworms! 😡😆 Enjoy!

I am a science and maths high school teacher. I teach about BT and GMO in corn crops in my senior Biology classes. You explained the scientific perspective very well. Nothing wrong with killing those worms. We spend so much money and invest so much of our precious time in the garden - no point wasting it to insects. It looked like you really enjoyed doing this video. keep going 'crazy plant lady.' Love from sunny Sydney, Australia.

We TRY to be chemical free here, even organic insecticides except for DE. I pick off caterpillars at night by hand and feed to my chickens. I decided to trade a little insect damage for a more living garden and it has worked well for us as it balances itself out (good bugs/bad bugs/birds, etc). I realize not everyone can do that though and sometimes you have to get out the chemicals. Good info.

I recently got out my BT for my broccoli 🥦. Cabbage worms have arrived! My biggest frustration with spraying anything, really, is the sprayers. I've bought a few different kinds and they never last no matter how well I take care of them! I mixed some up yesterday in a spray bottle because I need to buy yet another sprayer. So annoying! The spray bottle is fine if you don't have a lot of plants, but gives a wicked hand cramp 😂

We try not to use bt because it will also kill ladybug larva and other beneficial larvae (I should clarify, just the larva, not the lady beetles) so I've gotten to the point where if I use anything it's usually just a little hand sprayer of soapy water and I spray what I see or just pick it off, lol. It works well for us but we're hosting a large number of different critters here and certainly don't have a perfect garden like yours! We just accept that there will be some little holes in some plants here 😅. Everything is looking gorgeous in the background Janey!

I absolutely agree with really limiting the use of Bt or any pesticide on my plants. I use it only when I grow petunias and, like a laser, I only put it on that plant directly.🌸

I didn't know about the other BT, so thanks for sharing all your knowledge with us. I truly appreciate how you research everything you use in your garden and then you are so kind to share it with us. Hi Janey... Thanks for an excellent description of budworms and BT. I learned something that I did not know (always a good thing!) Question.... if you use BT spray ready to use... I assume it'll do the same thing????? I've been using that for about a year with success... HATE budworms. Is this the only spray you use for pests?
