X90 Pro Plus has the camera system of the year, so far. Can't wait to see how it stacks up against the S23 Ultra.
If rumors are true, then Vivo will still have the better camera hardware. Better image quality will depend mainly on individual choice, but Vivo will be tough to beat.

Vivo is the clear overall winner. I felt the iPhone lacked sharpness in most scenarios and the colours didn't look natural especially when looking at the blue sky. In night mode, photos looked washed out and it lacked detail. Hoping to buy the Vivo which will be a nice upgrade from my Vivo X70.
Amazing comparison as always. Was waiting for that. It's perfect that you always show photos with Zeiss mode and without. In most other comparisons they only use default mode and than complain about pictures not having natural colours which is ridiculous and something I don't understand! As I said last time cinematic mode on the Vivo again very impressive especially indoors you could see the software doing it's thing on the edges of your face and especially the hair on the iPhone but not on the Vivo. Was very interesting to finally see a video comparison between these two. Vivo is the first Android keeping up with the iPhone when it comes to video. Lens flare is unsurprisingly much less on the X90 Pro+ at night. For me the video of the Vivo had a bit too much noise in the very dark scene, but as you showed us it's possible to change that with pro mode. The only thing where Vivo is really behind is video with the front facing camera especially because of no stabilization on 1080 60 fps and 4k 30. But I don't care to much about the front facing camera and photos with it are surprisingly very good and better than with the iPhone especially at night!
Grant, I loved your final thoughts, well said. Agreed, I am liking vivo better in video too. Sony IMX 989 with PRORES would be outstanding too. Man, tech is so much fun. Also, I am glad that you got this out. I will reference it in my next drop.
i use my x90 pro plus on the higher bitrate setting many should do its standard on 24mbps but can be put on 48mbps on h265 or h264 64mbps

@@GrantLikesTech good i used vivo x90 pro plus for my latest videos and out performs my Panasonic camera with less noise and sharper video so vivo is way to go and for audio recording from Bluetooth speakers i test it also performs wel without external mic

It's refreshing to see a Smartphone camera taking photos somehow more like what a real camera would deliver.
Apple tuned down a lot the weird smart HDR thing but still the photos are so overprocessed, oversharpened and full of blue or pink casts from the HDR stacking system, they end up not looking good especially in more challenging situations.
I like my iphone 13 pro max only for landscape photography or picture of objects for daily use, the camera is reliable, consistent, fast, no shutter lag or other usability problems, but the photos are getting weirder every generation, distancing from anything like a real photo from a camera, something you could see in older generations such as iPhone 7.
Great video!! For me, I liked the photos of the X90 Pro Plus over the iPhone 14 Pro. The X90 Pro Plus did better in majority of the situations/settings.

The dynamic range and stabilisation in the iPhone on video and the front facing video are the only instances where I felt that the iPhone definitively beat the Vivo. In all other instances the Vivo beat or matched the iPhone.
Man without a doubt I would love the Vivo X90 Pro+! Not only for the camera but also of course because of the fingerprint scanner!

Hi, thanks for this great comparison as always. It looks like Vivo oversharpen the video when in normal mode vs more natural looking dolby vision mode. It would be great if you can also make a video on Vivo's pro video mode sample and log mode. I wonder whether vivo's video on the pro mode is also as oversharpened.

Hey, Grant! I'd shoot in the 48MP mode with the iPhone when comparing it to the Zeiss Natural photos from the Vivo. It makes sense, as the 48MP mode on iPhone puts out very natural photos with tons of detail - unlike the 12MP mode which looks like an overprocessed mess.
You are the first man, who wrote the right things! Reviewers are lazy to shoot in pro raw!
Appreciate the feedback. Since 48MP is available in RAW it probably makes more sense to to a RAW to RAW comparison I suppose.
I have 14 pro max & x90 pro plus.
Compared 48mp pro raw to the Vivo in various scenarios and vivo comes out top for detail. You can crop in more on iphone but image quality goes to vivo. I personally also prefer the video quality of the vivo!

@@mortlock36 if u don't mind big size then vivo is the right choice, i chosen iphone 14 pro, because more compact size... 6.8 been too big for me, hard to walk with it in shorts ;D, anyway vivo 10/10 and iphone 9/10 for quality, so both are really good devices, hard to be unsatified with each of them.

For the rear cameras vivo really captures more detail in both movie and pictures. But on night mode (or also the auto night mode) it blows out the sky too much, with darker sky it would be a lot better looking - we're anyhow already in spheres where it's not about how human eyes see it but what looks beautiful, and then the sky is horrible. Have to darken it every time. Darker sky keeping the rest identical would give much more of a night feeling. Iphone does this vettz. Also I find the Zeiss natural colors mode at night misses pop. It's great during the day however but too boring at night. let's hope vivo still improves the software more because the potential is there.
Also I really miss a beach and snow mode as well as a simple landscape pictures mode on the vivo. Second is more of a thing because the 1" sensor simply it's harder to shoot nice landscape in the mountains during the day... Front facing camera of course Vivo ain't great.
Appreciate your thoughts on this. For low light video I share an example from pro mode, which definitely will allow you to dial in the video to your liking especially being able to reduce the heavy noise seem in auto mode.
Zeiss natural colour mode is there to capture natural looking photos, so if reality is boring, than the photos will be the same. So I don't understand you criticism. If you want more popping colours no matter if at day or night you have to use default mode or dial the contrast up manually with the slider Vivo implemented in the camera app. And Vivo does have the Zeiss landscape mode, so why are you saying it doesn't have it?
Also in vivid mode, using night mode thr sky is simply too light, both for photo and video.
I don't have landscape mode, only a landscape and architecture mode that I don't understand what it's supposed to do. Certainly not what I want and understand landscape mode from other phones or cameras
@@FelixHartmannmtb I wasn't talking about the sky but about popping colours as the criticism was that in Zeiss mode the colors do not pop enough. Therefore I said use the default mode as the colours will pop more in that mode. And yes the mode is called landscape & architecture as it has 3 different functions. There is the Zeiss APC which is for correcting the perspective of the image when capturing a building for example. Then there is the miniature mode which is for capturing a miniature landscape in cartoon like style. And then the Zeiss EDoF which is a classic landscape mode which does keep everything in the picture in focus and sharp as every landscape mode does. But there is an explanation of all the modes right in the camera app

nice video friend ...i had noticed well iPhone is adding soft pink colour in all video and images ...i personal felt Vivo lens shows as it is especially at 1:55 i had noticed your face around your eyes that skin colour in iphone it's fully pink colour..in outdoor light condition iPhone is bringing in very much mild yellow clearance grading filter shot . especially image optimisation iPhone can only do that much better ~ and i must say this zeiss you killed iPhone at many shots i could see that i think soon iPhone itself will soon offical buy this zeiss 😂 ....but in end iPhone is winner it's all because of image processing and optimisation ...

Indeed, the Vivo is better overall.
But actually its selfie camera is particularly bad in night video, quite average in night photography but still better than the iPhone in night photography 😅.
I don't really know which one has the best colorimetry in video, but I found the colors of the Vivo a little too accentuated, I have the impression that Zeiss mode does not come into play in video 🤔
On the other hand in video, the Vivo oversharpned images, it is even worse than the iPhone in the field, it oversharpned so much that its FHD video has as much detail as iPhone 4k 🤦🏽♂️
I think it is better not to shoot in 4k with this Vivo, in any case until Vivo engineers have solved this problem and also the slight problem of overexposure in video.
If they also add stabilization and automatic HDR in FHD/60 selfie, I don't think anyone will complain about it.
Ps: the problem of the Vivo in video must perhaps be able to be circumvented with the pro mode.
Pro mode always has more flexibility, but more beneficial with higher bitrate options.
Do you mean it oversharpens only in video or also in photos? Because if you say Vivo oversharpens photos than you are completely wrong! Most other phone do oversharpen especially the iPhone but Vivo does it way less than the others if at all. But again if you are only talking about video, forget what I said!

It's a pity that X90 Pro+ is way worse in video department compared to iPhones.. if they handle to improve their video and zoom capabilities in X100 (or whatever name they'll call it), they will have a chance to compete in the bigger market for sure..
Vivo are amazing.... Aprt from the ffc with no stabilisation... Also can you turn off eis on rear camera vidoe recording as at night eis just ruins it... Only phones I know so far is Sony and Samsung

Yeah vivo is really fast for Android, but is it at fast without sports mode as iphone or pixel 7 (pro)? I guess pixel is still king in daylight. At night it gets tough. Vivo really then needs the sports mode if you capture moving things. The auto mode should improve here - it's a bit of a weakness it doesn't detect moving objects well.

Apples to oranges 😉 but both are fast in synthetic benchmarks. Vivo is impression for Android as the SD 8 Gen 2 in it runs very efficiently and does not seem to throttle at all. I got 96% stability in the 3D mark extreme stress test.

Photos are cool in detail, but the saturation is too high
Overall the iPhone was the best for me.
The Vivo is too much saturated and videos and photos had a magenta hue in some pictures. The color red was better preserved on the Vivo for flowers. Videos were a bit too bright on the Vivo and a little over sharpened. Nighttime pictures were too bright for my taste on the Vivo.
Zoom pictures were better on the Vivo. The front camera with 1080p in 2023 is unacceptable and is not stabilized.
So if I had to choose one camera that is the most consistent it’ll be the iPhone.
How is Vivo in Zeiss natural mode oversaturated? Gets the white balance, contrast and saturation nearly perfect in every photo. In default mode it is a bit oversaturated, has higher contrast and a warmer white balance but that's on purpose, because some people like photos with more popping colours than in reality therefore you have the two options

And see the difference between 7:44 and 7:47. The Vivo is over saturad imo. Also the cap on his head is black on the iPhone but bluish on the Vivo
@@mauricedicke9527 we don't know how it looked in real life so I cannot say which is more true to life! I mean maybe there is a problem with a certain green tone, but that doesn't mean in general the iPhone makes more natural looking photos. Because the iPhone is off quite often, and I've seen quite a lot camera comparisons with the iPhone, so it's not only about that one! Also I use the X90 Pro+ myself and for me it's the same as for many reviewers, that it gets it perfect in 8 or 9 out of 10 times

To me the iPhone has MUCH better video quality, both because of the 60fps stabilisation, and also because of the shakiness of the vivo in cinematic mode.
With the photos the iPhone clearly has an over-processing problem which they probably won’t fix in the future so the win to the vivo it goes.

Videos hands down iPhone. I thought the Vivo would put more of a fight but nothing much to them. Even on the first videos the lights on the back is blown out on the video.
In day, I do think the iPhone somehow does better in photos but not by much. It's dynamic range is nice but the colours are sometimes accurate but mostly oversaturated. Especially the skies. Still it does look sharper, until you crop it. Vivo better in zoom. Ultrawide no difference. Flowers colours accurate on Vivo but sharper on iPhones.
At night the Vivo selfie is better. You'd think autofocus would help front camera on iPhone but nope. Still the brighter image but tad fuzzy in videos. But night videos does favour the iPhones although it's on par on well lit scenes. Night photos is realistic in iPhones but brighter in Vivo. Especially the sky again. Night mode doesn't help iPhone much. But I don't think it's brightening it up like Vivo does.
Another good comparison between the two. Hopefully the S23 Ultra is next on the table.

As i have seen and heard all around the world from some social influencers that they use iPhone because of the better quality optimization and compatibility with Instagram as they say Instagram was first designed for iOS only and was designed for Android later after a few years
