Ohhhh, this will help me pick a better group to ride in. I will be able to keep up with the group if I select a lower letter category. THANKS. I was getting discouraged trying to ride with groups that were faster and better then I am as a newbie.

@@endurancesweat I just got off the bike using your category info. You have changed this 56 year old's experience! Again...Thanks so much!

Thanks for the information, great video! Before the video I did not know that I am Cat A with 4,65 w/kg (57,85kg, 269 watt FTP)

      Update: Now 285 watt FTP and 58,15kg = 4,9 w/kg

Here's a point of confusion I have over Categories and how they relate to raw Watts and W/kg...
If I'm a light rider, I can still put out a reasonably high W/kg even at lower actual power since I'm lighter. But when it comes to joining a race / group ride that's on a flatter course, W/kg doesn't seem to be an accurate metric for me to choose a group ride by. Isn't it all about the guys that can hammer out higher wattages, regardless of the fact because of their higher weight they have lower W/kg?
This would be true for real life road rides, so it's true for Zwift too isn't it?
So unless the race is up the Alp, for example, wouldn't it be more meaningful to categories rides by shear Watts? Or am I confused?
I really enjoy your videos btw!

You are right that lighter riders are at a disadvantage on flat routes. Wind resistance is the predominant factor on the flats so raw W's wins over W/kg. Whereas gravity predominates on climbs so it's all about W/kg. Here's a link to a good write-up from Zwift Insider: zwiftinsider.com/lower-wkg/ Just like the pros, we can pick our "A" events on routes which match our natural/trained advantages.

Was this filmed in 1997? I swear I watched this in middle school p.e.
I kid, but this is definitely informative and straight forward.

LOL! Well I was in middle school way before 1997 so that might explain it. Good to read that it was informative and straight forward if not entertaining. Ride On!

@@endurancesweat just really reminded me of the ol’ instructional videos the p.e. teacher would roll out the tv and vcr to put on before class😁
      Very nostalgic.
