You may have one, but I was hoping y’all might do a video on selecting, choosing a cast iron pan. I want to cook with cast iron and make cornbread, but I just feel like I’m unsure of the size, which kind, is all cast iron created equal, and how to begin seasoning, maintenance. I'm a 60 year old single man . I grew up in southern Wv. I love watching your channel . I like the biscuit dough better in chicken and dumplings . Take the Dumpling out and break them up and butter them and then put the chicken and broth on top . As a kid when grandpa and i would go hunting , grandma would make squrill dumplings . Matt is a lucky guy .

Tipper you cook a lot like my mom. She was the oldest of 8 children, and raised in Ohio. Her food was amazing! We grew our vegetables, chicken, pork, and much of our fruit. Your family is wonderful, and they are so blessed to have you!

My grandma made the best chicken and dumplings. We always had green beans and cornbread along with our chicken and dumplings, too. So many happy memories with my grandma. Miss her so much.

Mom used to cook her chicken in a separate pot and skim off anything that was floating at the top of it. She'd pull apart her chicken. Then with her dough, she'd make a double bach, cut them up in long strips, let her noodles dry out and then ball up her noodles to make them thick or thicker. She made wonderful homemade chicken and noodles! They were awesome ❤❤
My grandma made hers the same way! So good!!!

I enjoy all your cooking videos. Not only does it all remind me of my mountain mama 💖 but it puts me back in touch with my roots. Mama worked a full time job and brought sewing home at night to raise 2 kids on her own. But she ALWAYS had a southern supper with scratch biscuits or cornbread on the table every single night. Amazing woman, she was.
You cook your dumplings just like my mama, and her mama cooked them. Somewhere down the line I started adding fresh parsley to the dumplings. I still do occasionally.

She's just adorable!! Cooking like my grandma & my mom- So much so I just googled Appalachia and I'll be damned if Walnut Mountain where my mom grew up - is a subsection of Appalachia!!!!!!!!! In all my years I never knew that! Grandma nor mom mentioned Appalachia/ Only Walnut Mountain! I finally got a story to tell my MoM lol 🫶🏽👍🏽🤙🏽 Rest in Peace Grandma Hampton 💜
My grandma made drop dumplings! Super Easy - Super good! When people come to visit me that's what they always want me to cook for them! I'm sure yours are good too! 😊

My father grew up during The Great Depression when food and money were tight. He always called flour dumplin' dust and rarely would eat them. This looks like a great meal!

Something about matt saying your green beans are close to grannies just made my heart smile. My mamaw was an amazing cook and when my mom cooks gravy and biscuit it taste just like mamaws. Now my mamaw is gone its like it's her in the kitchen when my mom makes that. Its so special

I love chicken and slicks. Probably my favorite soup. My okra seldom makes it from the garden to the house. I like it raw better than any other way. I am disappointed when harvest is so big I have to freeze it .

Lordy, brings back memories. Strawberry shortcake w/whipped cream was one of my daddy's favorite desserts. So mom made it all the time.
My Mother in Law is French Canadian and taught me how to make this. Her secret is that she adds 5 cloves to the broth at the beginning, adds a wonderful flavour! Give it a try!

Congratulations on the new grandbaby. Nothing like being a grandparent. I love the videos, especially the cooking and gardening ones. I helped my grandmother make dumplings from the time I could see over her table. We make flat dumplings like you. My grandmother kept them in the freezer on sheet pans. She would layer them in the long strips with wax paper between them. When she cooked them, she would just break them in pieces into the hot broth. Keeping them in the freezer kept cooking chicken and dumplings from being such a chore. Then on an afternoon when there wasn't much to do, and her dumplings were getting low in the freezer, we rolled out dumplings. She never froze them after cooking them, but I'm sure it would be fine.Great memories.
We called those kind of dumplings, pastry. Chicken and pastry. It's dumplings when we drop them off a spoon. I'm so grateful I found your channel. Hearing your accent takes me back to those Kentucky hollows. Thank you.
My Gramma always called them slickers. She boiled a ham shank with some potatoes quartered lengthwise. Then shortly before serving, she mixed up the slickers using flour and broth from the ham. No shortening or salt. Super simple and delicious. The best food usually is. I enjoy your channel, feels like home.

Well I was so excited about the baby that I forgot to comment about the okra. That's how I make fried okra here in Texas too. Just a light dusting of cornmeal. Yum so good. I can't wait to plant my okra patch for this summer. The chicken and dumplings look so good.

My mom always cooked a whole chicken and lots of celery, carrots, and onions. Her dumplings were drop biscuits, and so fluffy and covered with fresh parsley.
My husband hated this dish until he had my mom's. His mom made the slimy kind of dumplings, which he always picked out. Lol 😂

We had the fluffy but yet dense, steamed dumplings that were yes, slimy if I admit it
But they were coated w/fat flavor actually
They were plopped on top the stew or soup and cooked 12 min - blossoming into balls of heavenly bliss that the stew was then served over
I always ate 1 plain too
Just SO good
noodles are just noodles to me, not dumplings

Yum! A real feast for supper! My Grandmother taught me the same trick with how to know the skillet was hot enough! Brought back memories. Thank you Tipper for this video! I loved it. I will use the same idea of using the pound cake and strawberries for a quick dessert during summer, always good to have these quick ideas for a busy day or for company coming. Hugs xx

Good grief, Tipper. You are accustomed to it, but there is a huge amount of organization, talent and
stick-to-it-ive-ness in the execution of this meal. I would give up ten of my big dogs, eight brooder hens and a pair of sixteen hand horses with a bad attitude for a meal like this. A nightly supper of this goodness will surely keep a family together, as you, Granny, and anyone who provides daily sustenance to their loved ones knows. I loved Tipper's advice to just keep cooking to learn the timing of cooking a whole meal. Watching Tipper cook a whole meal it helpful too. I was blessed to have watched and learned from my mother and grandmothers.

My mom and her siblings grew up in Jellico Tennessee and surrounding areas. I grew up in southern Ohio and we always had a garden and I was surrounded by good southern cooks, we always had cornbread and homemade biscuits and garden vegetables, also all the ones they canned. My mom canned or froze everything she got. She never wasted anything since they never had a lot growing up. Unfortunately my mom passed in October 21 and all but 1 brother are left out of 9. I so miss all of them as I spent most of my life surrounded by them and all the good southern food. I remember some of the food that I learned to make watching her but I feel like I don’t know everything I wish I did. I love watching your videos since it reminds me of some of the things I ate all the time growing up and also the phrases my family used. It does make me miss all of my family that passed but it is a comfort to watch you. I also had to buy your cookbook and your bacon grease jar. I had bacon grease in 3 different containers.

My mom used to call this dish Chicken Pastry. It was probably my favorite dish of hers, and there were many great one to choose from. Also the green beans and Okra (okrie) were up there too.
