So real. I'm so motivated to take up my first Ironman this year.
Good luck
doubt u did it,
@@thechadmode9978 what a loser comment
@@thechadmode9978what a negative comment. “Strong people lift others up they don’t put others down” you have achieved nothing commenting this. Even if they didn’t do it they have a goal and that’s all that mayters
At the end of the day, no one cares about YOUR time except YOU.
I'm 48. I have the job you described, I have the weight gain you described. I have a history of exercise (weight loss), then no exercise (weight gain). I've realized I try to hard to "perform" at work when I'm already in the top 20% of my peers without really trying. I've had the "worst" 18 months in recent years... drinking is up, bad eating is up and I'm working myself hard for no real benefit.
Race because you love it. Improve because you want to be better than you were. Keep with your goals so your accountable. After 12 months "off", I'm back at it again and I'm already enjoying the journey. It's not about my time or my place... it's about the commitment and the journey. Just being better than I was and not going backwards. Keep moving forwards no matter how "old" you are. Fall down 7 times, get up 8 times.
This guy has a great set of mind. He gets hospitalized mid training and manages to see it as a positive thing in the end. Really inspiring not to let your circumstances get you down.
A ctionMS thanks for your kind comment!
I love the fact that we all only compete with ourselves in the end. We don't start with the same body, mind, heart, bike... We just go our way and support each other along the way :) I think that's beautiful
Glad you enjoyed it
Outrageous film. I PR'd at Louisville in 2010 at around 13 hours. I've never felt worse or better. Big congrats on even getting this mindset in order.
The best Ironman video on CZcams, brilliant.
Thanks a lot
I'm 1 minute in and some of the cinematography is just wonderful! Well done 👍✅
Thanks, appreciate the comment.
Great video, I teared up in the end when he was describing his poor baby waiting in the rain....
Beautiful edit, well done Adam. Personally speaking-had you not had the journey to get to the top, the view wouldn’t have been anywhere near as satisfying.... As a triathlete for 25years then wake up in AnE after a heart attack to afternoon, your film really sang to me once you were out of hospital. Thanks man. Hope this inspires many others
it's my 4th time watching this. It's just so good.
Thanks for the comment, really glad you like it.
Mega! Did a Whooooooop when you said your time, Adam!!! Congrats, good luck in Austria and qualification!!
What a great inspiring video. My wife and I went over to watch friends compete in Barcelona in 2018 , and the weather was not kind. Even the sea swim was choppy. As soon as we got back she entered Barcelona 2019. She was entered for IM Bolton 2017 but had a bad bike accident 5 weeks before the event. So she entered IM Austria 2018 and finished !! . You will enjoy Austria it is a great swim and bike course. Good luck and enjoy the journey ,no matter how many times you fall off , get back up and prove you can do it .
24 minutes to spare absolutely awesome fella
👍
Unreal. That 10hr mark is a big goal. Sometimes it seems like the better I get, the further away those goals feel; I already know how much I do and how hard I work, and yet they're still a long way away. Great motivation, great film. Well done! EDIT to add: And actually, one other thing. Super relate to the point about "If you show up and haven't put the effort in, it's going to be horrible." That's what I love about the sport so much. I don't really believe there's good luck. IMO, the best "good luck" you can have is meeting the potential you prepared for. You can have bad luck that can get in the way, but you'll never withdraw more than you put in.
Thanks for the kind comments Justin. Your absolutely right, there is no hiding in triathlon, it's one of the few disciplines where you get out almost exactly what you put in. All the best with your future races. 👍
Was at the same event but for me it was chasing 11 - everything said in here resonates 👌
So freaking good.
Well done Jonathan. Excellent vid! Keep doing vids in the tri world, it's a sport that is getting bigger and bigger!
Congrats on getting under 10! Mega.
Great to see a story behind the race. It amazes me how this sport has captured the imagination of people of all shapes and sizes and backgrounds. I’ve done a couple of sprints and the support from fellow triathletes before, during and after the race is nothing short of amazing. Hats off to you guys for a great video
Thanks for the kind words.
Nice one Adam! You are spot on. In 2009 I targeted sub 3 hours for loch Ness marathon. Got 3 hrs 20seconds, very disappointed. I was only doing running back then. Last year I did a few tris and I feel more well rounded and just smashed my 10mile pb. Going to give sub 3 another go in 2019 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@Tristan_Nelson deffo if I was a bit closer. But I'm in the UK! Never heard of it before. Somthing to think about tho🤔
Did you manage it in the end mate?
Didn't do a marathon last year. Was concentrating on shorter distance stuff. Sub 3 still on my bucket list tho👍🏼
@@robg109 Good luck! Will come back and check in one year! :D
My best Ironman time is literally 10:00:52 at Ironman Canada. It was a bitter pill for a while but it was a solid race so oh well. Two years later I was in better shape for IM Wisconsin. 10 days before race my appendix had to come over. Sub-10 and WQ placing was gone. That one really stung for a while.
@@kitrit8445 I'm living in pakistan, we're doing it.
Monster improvement, impressive time!
I was feeling a little bit down and out of focus on my training, but now, after this video, I know I can. And I will. Tulsa Ironman May 20 2022. Greetings from Oklahoma. (My first Ironman)
Good luck
Good luck brother. Any updates?

Thanks
This is totes amazeballs. Thank you for producing this great film and good luck to sub 10!
Best Ironman video on CZcams by far... Loved how real it was! Massive congrats, and thank you for inspiring us all😊
Appreciated thanks 👍🏻
Thanks Josh, really kind comments. 👍
I did one of my first full marathons one year post neck spinal fusion surgery. I was so down in the dumps after the surgery and was a very limiting physical fitness and activities for the better part of 8-9 months but after I got cleared from the doctors and was all healed up I did the exact same thing. I booked the race about 5 months out so I knew I HAD to show up come race day. I trained and worked my butt off to get back into the shape I wanted and I went out and ran a 5 hour marathon. I am by no means a runner but through determination and a good support group I didn't give up and was super stoked when I crossed that finish line.
Congratulations, glad to hear you achieved your goal. 👍
You ran for five hours, you finished a marathon, you my friend, are a runner.
Not the first time watching this docu. One of the most inspiring videos on youtube to me. Thx for sharing your experience. Really touching my triathlon soul. Sub 10, amazing.
Thanks for the really kind comments Marcello. Really glad you enjoyed it so much. 👍👍
brilliant watch, thanks
Thanks for watching
Congrats on this amazing race and kudos to Jonathan for this great video!
I never cry, but I cried! one day ill go for sub 10... done one in 11.01. I get this to a t. next goal sub 3 marathon... can relate so so much
Nothing but respect for these world class athletes
Aiming for a goal means that getting out the door is no longer exercise it becomes training.
A dream becomes a plan
Really well done documentary.
33 dislikes....what is to dislike...people are weird!
Great little video for some motivation. Thanks!
Haha thanks Tom 👍🏻
Those are the athletes who didn't ;)
I disliked because he didn't win it.
dislikers are probably sloughing on their couches eating chips..
They all finished at 10:01
I’m currently training for my first marathon and that got me right in the feels!
Awesome. Well done Adam. Bloody well done.

Full of power & emotion. Great filming Jon. Good sound. Good editing technique. Maintaining interest throughout. And Full marks to Adam, despite the initial setbacks of surgery, for finally achieving his goal.

Incredible, amazing, congratulations to you. Inspirational!

congratulations!! i bet that means so much to you!!
Superb...hugely motivating!!
This was perfect! Extremely inspiring! I wrecked on my bike 2 weeks ago and broke my clavicle. I have been out for 2 weeks and will be out for another4 to 6 weeks. This week, all the negativity starting rushing into my head as I can't do much and the pounds are adding on. I want a really low place right before I saw this film. Thank you very much for this.
Bradley Valdivia yup... been there, know how you feel! You’ll be back to normal before you know it don’t worry.
@@adthorne thank you for the encouraging words!
All the best with your recovery, stay strong and you'll be back before you know it. 👍
look up Lucy Gossage, she had a broken clavicle during her training
This is pure amazing!! Nicely done mate, the editing was really good! I am so used to these sprints, I wouldn't be able to do an Ironman
Awesome documentary. Very interesting and pleasing that he reached his goal!

Thanks 👍
So well done!
Great video and great story. Signed up for my first 70.3 this year at 44. The attitude really resonates with me. Sub 5 is the goal on the 70.3 with a sub 10 IM goal in 21.
Best of luck
A remarkable story and so well told - warts and all.
Although I’m coming into this a lot later, my philosophy is the same - I can’t “just do it”. I have to have a reason, a target - Like your sub 10 hour race. Well done of smashing that in 9:36, btw..
So, 2 years after you published this video, I’m about to set off on a similar journey.
At a point where I was beginning to worry that I really had left it too late. This video reminded me why I started my own Ironman journey. “Because it means something to me” Thank you. 👍
Glad it helped
