The Next World War | Episode 12 | The Fall of Lithuania

- As Lithuania teeters on collapse from the Russian invasion of the Baltics, NATO launches a desperate mission to ensure the survival of the Lithuanian government.
Background:
This episode looks at the question: what would happen if (like Ukraine in the opening hours of the war when Zelenskyy refused the US advice to evacuate - his "ammunition instead of a ride" comment) - instead, what if the President of Lithuania took the US up on that offer. A pretty controversial decision. I'll leave it up to the viewer to decide whether it was right or wrong. For the President, do you save your city from destruction, or evacuate to a different part of the country and operate on-the-run, or do you fully evacuate and wait it out until NATO can retake the Baltics?
Commentary:
Soccer vs. football. The narrator is from the UK, so why am I calling the field a soccer field? I bounced back and forth on this while writing it, but came to the conclusion that because I am from the U.S., it needs to be written as such. If I was to fully immerse myself and "pretend" to write the script from a UK POV, I would get a TON of things/terms, etc. wrong. So... soccer it is. :)
Pronunciations. Oh boy, there are several in this episode that I probably butchered. I (try) to determine what they should be but, 1) even researching it, the results aren't always accurate and 2) the AI narrator struggles to get it "right". Also, sespite my best research attempt, I have come to learn since posting this video that Simonyte is a female Lithuanian name. My mistake!
Female characters. Why so few? Simply put, the 3D models available within ARMA3 are AWFUL. I have yet to find a group that works well as civilians beyond women in tracksuits or mini-skirts. Seriously. Ugh. I'm still looking for anyone who has created a better mod, but in the meantime... I'm stuck.
Night vision gear used by pilots is an approximation based on 2032.
Why am I showing the flight lead sitting in the right seat (as opposed to the left seat pilot)? I was corrected on this by Ian Brown. As he put it, "while the pilots wiggles the stick, the flight lead is doing their thing."
Lastly, please keep in mind that the equipment, “actors”, uniform rank, etc., in my video may not be perfect. Though I try to get it right, sometimes there isn’t a mod or 3D model for what’s needed. Or, I might get something wrong. I’m a One Man Show here and I’m doing my best, so I ask for some grace. The Russians in this story appear to be more competent than they are in Ukraine.
I think the first episode talks about them getting bloody in the Ukraine and modernizing their military under new leadership
@@johnreinhart22 the thing is, even with all that they would need the Chinese to start something big in the Pacific for it to matter. There's a reason they suck so bad. They were on the path to becoming like what they are in this series, and then the U.S started a series of sanctions under Obama and they're gone from a problem filled country rampant corruption and still a decently strong military, to being overrun by corruption so much that they can't even function as a competent military force. A new leader can fix the corruption, but they're out of money and without China they have no real shot of ever doing anything major.

@@nobstompah4850 I remember he said that but I haven't seen them do anything yet. And it's been what? A couple weeks of war. I don't think even with the new leadership Russia could put on enough pressure after two weeks, even one is iffy. China would have to try something first or they would have to be right on the Russians heels. China has the numbers and situation for a massive, devastating surprise attack. The cold war has left so much stacked against Russia that even without their economic failures they would be hard pressed to get a huge devastating surprise attack that could really take off pressure.
@@extraordinarytv5451 I'm not willing to discount this (in the video) scenario, especially considering recent strategic ineptitude. The opening salvo in the first view videos are largely why we are here now: a fixed, untested force (NATO) which itself had not been expecting the attack, vs. a fresh Russian army that has largely purged its rot and revitalized its military. Furthermore, NATO regional command in the Baltics was eliminated after a commander neglected SIGINT security (very likely), and got his entire staff killed, leaving the force headless. Couple this with the fact they invaded multiple countries, and are apparently bracketing the Polish border, it's very likely that the Baltics, a nation already regarded strategically as a "speedbump" would collapse in a few weeks without reinforcements. Invaders almost always have a first-strike advantage, and Russia's Ukraine gambit could have paid off if their logistics had not failed them, had their forces been more (mentally) ready, and had Kyiv's forces been more rigid/hardened in their defense, causing them to suffer massive losses, as opposed to their more liquid, unconventional defense.

I don’t think the Lithuanians would surrender, to the cost of getting their cities destroyed. With the Soviet occupation in the 1940-50s they had a large part of population deported to Siberia until the fall of the Soviet Union. Lithuanians, Latvians and Estonians have not forgotten.

I view that war as something similar to the Spanish Civil War in the late 1930s where a lot of the European powers sent their new weapons to be tested and then they were used in World War II
