  • The Diecast International Builders have invited the community to participate in a Holiday build. I’m starting with a Hot Wheels Rockin’ Santa Sled that I found at the Dollar Store back in July when my oldest daughter was visiting. I’ve changed the colors, giving it a somewhat “Spectraflame” look, adding Redline wheels, and a LOT more detail to Santa.
    It’s been painted with rattlecan Krylon Stained Glass paint and Minwax Gloss Clear polyurethane.
    Please check out all of the builds in the invitational! You can find the DIBs CZcams channel at:

    That looks really good, Jim! Reminds me of the one I bought last year and turned into a custom Christmas ornament for my wife. It was the green model out of the package with the gold sleigh blades and no lettering on the body, so I left the paint and the blades as they were for the most part. I painted in the area up front on the blades where you put the decals to give the blades some depth and then detailed Santa and the gifts in a similar fashion to yours. Then I used the screws I put in the base to add some rings for some fishing swivels for attaching it to the Christmas tree. She appreciated the work that went into it, even though she wasn't too fond of the casting itself. So it wasn't totally a wasted effort on my part. Lol. I really like the color of yours and how it turned out. I can't wait to see the rest of the models you work on this month! Have a great holiday season!

    2 yrs ago tried to join 2 of these for diecast graveyards xmas build. well didn't work revisited it for this build it was to far gone lol. but my daughter and I used the Santa's and the presents in each of our cars. they'll be in the recap. those redlines really look good on this the "blade" piece of the casting is truly a pain to deal with I cursed at mine a few times before the whole build went to the parts bin. the details on santa turned out way better than mine lol. that green looks awesome will have to keep an eye out for it a similar frost colors in the future another awesome build take care and merry Xmas if you don't build before then

    Jim you did a great job of making something nobody would look at into something others may consider doing themselves. The black decals to make the runners standout was fantastic. They now look as they should (open). Now a quick question as to where do you get the screwdriver handle that you use? When a person has bigger hands it is hard to use the little handled screw drivers for the little screws. I see you had a black device for a little drill bit as well. where did you get that as well. Thanks Rob

    • @JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms
      @JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms  Před 2 lety

      Thanks so much Rob! You're not the first to ask about the screwdriver handle so I just went and added a link to the screwdriver and the pin vise you asked about to the Tools section of my Amazon storefront (please note - there is an amazingly small "kickback" from Amazon for purchases made through the store lol). The screwdriver shaft in held in place by a set screw on mine - at the suggestion of a viewer, I shortened the length of the shaft and then put the handle back on. The screwdriver is very durable, but it's also not as cheap as many alternatives. Here's the store www.amazon.com/shop/jimsilva
