    In this lesson I'm showing you one of the must know country licks and then taking you through the first step of putting a lick through it's paces by moving the lick to other strings sets and tailoring the lick to work on different parts of the neck. Learning country licks the right way is super valuable. Grab the tab and learn these licks in G, C & D. Have fun!

    Great video! I see what you did there about the hybrid picking and not mentioning it. That forced me to not think about my picking and just find the notes in due time. Thanks!

    Great lesson sir. I absolutely love that Telecaster - sounds like the ideal Country and/or Jazz sound. I have two Teles: a real one and a black market one, which is sort of a 1/2 Tele, or just a "Tel"

  • @richardlanahan8089
    @richardlanahan8089 Před 3 měsíci +1

    Yep, great stuff. For over 25 years I've been using a .15 G and taking out the .17's when using Teles. This makes it easier to pull it down and hold as well as being less fatiguing to hold it a whole step up while doing other things.

    Twenty "likes" for this encyclopedic lick, useful in so many keys. In my early work on these bends, I find I'm sometimes out of tune at the end of a practice. Is the solution bending less? Or just keep tuning up?

    When I heard you say Danny Gatton, Jerry Donahue, Albert Lee one name pops in my mind. I think unknown for most people. Stewart Barnes. Born in Yorkshire England but lived from his early 20's in Belgium where he unfortunately died in 2023. Maybe he was the fastest picker of europe and was on stage with Carl Perkins (who gave him a guitar), Dolly Parton, Boxcar Willy, Dennis Weaver, Jeannie Denver (his wife) and I do have some footage of him when he was on stage with Jerry Donahue when he was in Belgium for a workshop. He was my father's best friend i'm sure you will like his Guitar playing 😎

    To my ears, this is in the key of C, not G, because C is where the lick wants to resolve. Great lick, by the way, and one that I usually play with slides, not so often with bends.

    • @JasonLoughlinMusic
      @JasonLoughlinMusic  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Cool. Sounds like your most comfortable hearing Ionian major keys. There's a lot of country music that's in Mixolydian. It's also a major key but the 7 is lowered. Different tonality. In that case your I chord is a dominant 7. There are some great ear training apps out there that can help you be more comfortable hearing the difference. I like Ear Trainer

      @@JasonLoughlinMusic As I was typing, I thought that really, I was just hearing the mode that seemed most logical to me, and that you probably heard it differently. I agree there's no reason why your initial lick couldn't be in G, but to me there was a definite pull, trying to resolve it to C.
