- I'm excited to talk about a new addition to my tech collection - the Bigme HiBreak, an e-ink Android smartphone. I've just placed an order for this device and I am eagerly waiting for its arrival at the end of June.
What makes the Bigme HiBreak stand out is its e-ink display. I've chosen the color e-ink option to diversify my e-reading experience, as I already own the Onyx Boox Palma for a black and white e-reading. So, here are some things I think people should consider when thinking about getting the Bigme Hibreak or the Boox Palma. The Bigme Hibreak is cheaper, has a front facing camera, has the option of a color e-ink display and has 4G LTE(depending on carrier). Also the CPU is at a faster speed of 2.3ghz vs 2ghz (however depending on the specific CPU it may not actually be faster). The Boox Palma has a higher PPI 300 vs 275 for the B&W model and 91.9ppi on the color model(according to Good E Reader). It has a larger display at the same 2:1 aspect ratio, so the display on the Hibreak is smaller in all dimensions. The battery on the Palma is 650mAh bigger than the Hibreak (3950mAh to 3300mAh). The Hibreak is also likely to have worse battery life due to supporting a LTE connection and having a faster CPU speed. The Palma supports a larger micro SD card (according to Good E Reader) at 2TB vs 1TB. The Palma also has a larger resolution back camera at 16mp vs 13mp. The Palma also has two speakers whereas the Hibreak has 1(according to Good E Reaer). Hope that helps some of you.

This is the first time I'm hearing about Bigme HiBreak. I didn't know such a device existed! Sounds like a good deal.
I also ordered this phone 2 days ago. Personally I went for the black and white, because I like that more with E-ink. I have no idea if the phone will be good, fingers crossed

I wish the palma had a version with a sim slot . I would’ve loved to make it my daily. Returning mine as i don’t want to carry two smartphone-sized devices in my pockets
Bigme doesn’t seem to really great at long time support. But if your review after using it a couple of weeks is decent, I’ll pull the trigger
Yes I agree ,it's not convenient carrying two large devices. I honestly only use my Palma at home most days. I still have no news on the shipment of my Bigme device. Hopefully I didn't get scammed again...

I like the idea of a social media detox style phone that encourages reading rather than scrolling.
You'd expect the eink screen to give you battery life benefits but 3300MAH is really low, android 11 is old and I can't see NFC for payments (as my phone is my wallet) - hoping all these are resolved with the better spec version and then I might take the plunge or maybe Onyx will launch a Palma phone. Thanks for the pre-review - there's not many out there at the moment 👍
Yes I think the better spec version will launch in Q4. I heard Onyx will release a phone too but the exact date is not known. I will test from r features like NFC since I need it for charging my transport card. Fingers crossed it arrives and works ok 🤞

🙋♂Hi Laura! I will be waiting on the second generation of this device and also see what reviewers have to say about the first gen. I have my doubts, this will be a great phone, due to band restriction problems and Bigme exaggerates its device capabilities. Here in the US it will have cellular connectivity issues with some carriers which would make this device a No-Go for many. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this, and kudos from NYC.🗽
Yes I see that there will be issues with connectivity in the US. I will test in France and then take it on a trip to the US in August and compare the connectivity if I can get it to connect there. I'll be a guinea pig for the 1st generation and I'm sure the 2nd generation will be a big improvement, especially with Android 14.

Looks fantastic, I bought the Boox Palma but it's obviously not a phone.
However this is a phone and I would love to know how the screen looks in bright sunlight. All conventional phones are rubbish in bright sunlight. I'd love to see how it performs in sunlight before I pull the trigger and buy one.
I will test it in the sunlight and compare it with the Boox Palma. I think the Boox Palma has a better resolution. I'm curious how they will compare for the refresh rate too.
I was going to buy and review this, but it doesn’t have good USA cell reception. Same problem as the Hisense A9 I already own and reviewed.
I think it should work fine in France. I still use 2g, 3g and 4g LTE with no issues. I know the US is much more complicated. I will take it with me on a trip back to FL this August and see if it can connect to any network.

I sent an email to this address (doris@xrztech.com) with my order information and my wish to cancel and receive a refund. I received a response the next day and the refund within a week with no issues.

No. I didn't receive any updates for shipping either so I cancelled my order and got a refund.
Seen a review on the TCL NXTPAPER the other day, similar sort of thing, bit bigger tho I think.
I would probably wait until Q4 of this year to see how the 2nd Gen. of this device with better processor and Android 14 would compare with the 1st Gen. Still, for the black and white model, the 1st Gen. may be good enough.
I'm sure the 2nd gen will be much better. I am also waiting to see if Onyx will release their smartphone to compete.

I cancelled my order. The shipping was delayed and I will be out of the country when it was supposed to be delivered. I may wait until the next versions release in Q4 this year.

@@prasadgiri3801 CZcams on eink display is not pleasant. The refresh rate makes videos a bit laggy.
Which version of kaleido it have?
Android 11 is a showstopper in my opinion 🤔
