Eye Pins in Polymer Clay So They Don't Come out

  • Video #402: Using the technique shown in this video, your eyepins will never come lose. No more missing charms!... More Info: www.beadsandbeading.com/blog/?... Polymer Clay Tutor.
    Topics Covered In This Video:
    * Since many of you have asked how to add eye pins to polymer clay charms, so today I'll show you my tips and tricks for doing this.
    * Many people just shove an eye pin into the top of a raw polymer clay charm and then bake it.
    * Polymer clay does not actually bond to wire, so although the eye pin may hold for a while, it will eventually become loose and fall out.
    * Some people will use glue or liquid clay on their eye pin to secure it. Although that lasts longer, it isn't the nicest looking or the most secure method for securing eye pins into polymer clay.
    * I usually make all my charms from beads with the hole running through it. That way I can use a headpin instead of an eye pin and the charm will never come off.
    * If you don't want to make a nice hole all the way through your charm, then the method I show in today's video, of bending and twisting the eye pin, is the most secure alternative

Thank you sooo much for using subtitles for your tutorials!! This helps me so much as I am profoundly deaf and it's hard for me to follow many videos on polymer clay making instructions when they don't have subtitles. I've subscribed to you now! I love your friendly manner of talking and the way you explain things to make it sound so easy! :-) :-)

Hi Rodellene Lagsit Yes you can put your headpins in first before baking. I see you are from the Philippines... I hope that you and your family are OK. I know that your country has gone through a terrible tragedy and my hearts go out to everyone effected by the terrible storm.

I'm definitely going to give this a shot. Thank you for the idea. I was bending it and inserting it wrong, then having to take a piece of clay and gently (meticulously, and annoyingly) blend in a patch. It worked, but man was it a lot of extra work.

Great tip! I have such trouble getting my eye-pins to stay it! Have spent countless dollars on all sort of industrial strength glue/bake 'n' bonds etc etc but nothing would work. Started doing the 90 degree bend in my eye-pin but was still wriggling it's way out because there's still a gap in the clay from pushing it down, never thought to twist it!! Thank you, I will be trying this for sure!

Hi dawn eliza desierto, One thing that you can do that will help you avoid squishing your charm while inserting the eye pin, is to put your charm in the freezer for awhile first. This will firm it up and keep you from squishing it too badly. Hope that helps!
