Excellent set. AW Mellon, real name Andrew, came from the Mellon Family of Pittsburgh, which started Mellon Bank in 1869.They had ties with Westinghouse, Heinz, Andrew Carnagie, and General Motors, to name a few. They also founded the National Art Gallery in DC.Andrew's brother Richard (RB) ran the Mellon bank in Pittsburgh while Andrew was Sec of Treasury. Richard's name is on Pittsburgh National banknotes
Back around 1977 or so, I went to a bank, to cash in a bunch of $1-5-10. I asked for all $100 bills. I received 1 1928 Gold Certificate and 1 1929 National Currency from FRB Chicago. The other 8 were just the usual.
I hope that you kept them. Nice score!
Nope. Sold my coin and currency collecting a while back.
I have the 10 & 20. Love them!
Sweet gold Cert set Ben!
I love the look of all the Series 1928 notes. Thanks for sharing Ben.
Even though I started collecting coins in 1958, I never found, a key coin. By then all of the good stuff was gone. I did find some semi-keys and better dates like some 1911-3d and 1915d, 1931d lincolns etc. The oldest coin I found in a roll was from a bank in a small town in Michigan in 1962. It was an 1892 Barber Dime. It was so worn that the mint mark was not clear. It was ether an O or an S. Only worth 10c back then. Looked like it was in circulation for 70 years. Today it would grade poor.Only barber,no Indians at all. Fun hobby!
Now all you're missing is the small size $500 and $1000 gold certificates that each cost tens of thousands....
I knew that the 50 and 100 were scarce but I never realized that they were that valuable now. Wow, I wish I had a time machine....
Fantastic set and series. Thanks for the education 👍
So there was multiple types of currency in circulation at the same time...yeah, that's not confusing at all.
Always something to teach.
Always something to learn.
Have a nice day
Hi, Ben. I like those notes. I like the gold ink. *TYU*
Fascinating. Thanks Ben.
You said more on that later, but never came back to it. Guess you'll just have to make a video about the gold back gold certificate series
Googled the time on the 100 dollar bill, It's 4:10 and was later switched to 10:30 on newer notes, No explanation about this change or meaning of it.
Very interesting.
Been trying to save away for a set for 2 decades now and i am only halfway there
You should gift us some
