- BEST WAY TO STOP NOROVIRUS. During cruisings restart after the pandemic. Norovirus was almost zero on cruise ships. but now it's on the rise and this one cruise tip is the best way to stop the Norovirus on every cruise ship
This should be required viewing for ALL cruisers.
It should be included in the muster drill.
LOL
I even go a step further. I put a disposable glove on my right hand when I serve myself at the buffet. Better safe than sorry and it works all the time. No sickness ever!
Great idea!!!!
Smart! Because even if you wash your hands before entering the buffet, the second you grab a serving spoon that an unwashed hand has grabbed, you’re contaminated. 😬
Great tip and reminder, “wash-e wash-e” 😂😂
Thanks for sharing
Final e is silent in English grammar. So you typed wash-wash when vocalizing. Proper spelling is: Washy washy
.

Hand washing has always been our best defense in staying well. The pandemic made everyone aware and shamed many into washing their hands. Those who already washed still do. Those who don't are putting themselves at risk.
Putting us at risk too. They wipe their butt then touch the buffet utensils, then other people get infected when they touch the contaminated utensils
Problem is, if you wash your hands before entering the buffet then you touch the serving utensils that an unwashed person does, it defeats the purpose. So I’ll be taking a napkin to grab each utensil in the buffet and toss it at the end of the line. They should have hand sanitizer at the end of the buffet stations too. That would help a lot.
@mamabar6811 That's not really a problem. I start out with clean hands just because that's what I always do. Most, if not all, ships have hand washing stations at the buffet. After serving up my food, I find my table and leave my food there while I go to wash my hands. It works out very well, and my hands are always clean, before and after serving.
@@user-yj3ob9kd3l nice! I suppose a second washing is a good idea as long as you have a companion to monitor your food on the table :)
@@user-yj3ob9kd3l not only do they put themselves at risk, worse, they put others at risk.
On my cruise, I was disgusted with the number of people not washing their hands, not only in the dining room but in the public bathrooms as well. I agree with you, Don... People wash your hands! Twenty seconds can't possibly be that big of a bother, and I promise there will still be enough of what you're craving when you done.
me too, did we learn nothing???
Absolutely!! It amazes me how many people don't do this.
Agree! It is good to put these reminders out for those who forget handwashing was not just for covid then stop. 😮 Thanks Don.
Not only Norovurus. I tested positive the day after my Alaskan cruise on the Norwegian encore in May. I thought I was extremely careful and there was someone at the buffet to basically squirt your hands or directing you to the sink if you desired. Turns out there were other cases of Covid as well as well as Noro. When we reported our case to NCL, they gave us a $200 feature cruise credit, which was totally unexpected! This wasn’t even their fault. Besides, I had a fabulous time! Most definitely will sale with them again and this was my first NCL experience.
Norwegian likes to scam customers, as shown by 1000s of stories from ripped-off customers. Avoid
Yes it has always amazed me how something so simple can be ignore. great tip.
I agree. Got the clip-on hand sanitizer bottle on my personal luggage and shore excursion bag.
Disney still has crew members standing at the entrance of the buffet telling you to was your hands. At the entrance of the main dining rooms they have crew members handing out antibacterial wipes to everyone. I also take hand sanitizer to use after touching the menus or the serving utensils at the buffet.
I keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer in my pocket to use after I’ve touched the utensils at the buffet or touched a menu (the germiest) before I eat. I also wash my hands before and after meals.
You are so right, I feel so lonely on my Sun Princess 7 nights cruise in May being one of few washing my hands on entrance to Eatery. Good thing it isn't a grab it yourself buffet on Sun Princess. Royal Caribbean does it a lot better on the Oasis class ship with many washing hands stations and controlling entry to the buffet and looks like most if not all are washing their hands. 😅Keep up the good work🤘🤟 .
Wash your hands people: it should be mandatory to wash your hands before entering any restaurant/buffet on board
I’m with you Don. I always keep hand sanitizer on a leash attached to my purse or bag. I can’t stand when people don’t wash their hands. I’ve always found that to be nasty. Even as a kid.
I wish the cruise ships would actually make people sign a contract vowing to wash! I’m not one of those that likes rules and regulations but if someone is that nasty and stupid they have it coming. I’d want to shame them. I’m to the point of taking disposable gloves for the buffet. I’m ts to the point I don’t like the buffets. Nothing but love to you Don❤❤
We always was our hands before entering the buffet and use hand sanitizer whenever possible.
We always "washy, washy" as we go into Windjammer or use hand sanitizer in the MDR. But, we see people washing up all the time. In fact, we often have to wait to wash up.
norovirus has an oil shield that repels sanitizer. Only soap will break-thru the shield & kill the virus
.
Before Covid, most folks were pretty good about using the sanitation stations and all the ships had good signage pointing to them because of valid concerns about Norovirus. Last year, with additional lingering concerns about Covid, the ships seemed to be doing an even better job, with both signage and personnel directing everyone to the sanitation or handwashing stations. All of these precaustions appear to have been fairly effective; I have never been ill on a cruise ship in 25 years of cruisng. I have been very disappointed this year; the three ships I have been on so far have had sanitation stations that are not obvious and have no signage or personnel directing passengers to them. I have seen very few people using them. This is a serious risk in the buffet, with people re-using the implements to get their food. I don't want to have my trip ruined by someone else's carelessness. I am considering bringing disposable gloves for use in the buffet for my trips this fall.
Got it at a buffet in Kissimmee years ago before Moro became well known. I was so sick.
Keep up the good work!
From my own personal experience, I've found that washing my hands regularly (after going to the washroom, before I eat or prepare food, after I get home from going out) have definitely decreased the frequency of my getting colds, etc. Back in my earlier university days I would get at least 1 cold per season without fail (once in fall semester, once in winter, and often in spring and summer as well); after I took to washing my hands regularly, this would decrease to once per year or less.
I still cant believe the number of passengers that do not wash their hands. People have such short memories!
Thanks!! I know that so many sanitizers are empty and sometimes hard to find. Soap and water is best!!
Don’t people refill water bottles from the water dispenser- wash again after getting your food! Everyone goes back for seconds, but they already touched their mouth and everything else- rewash!!! Sitting too close in MDR’s- squeezing too many into elevators!! We either take the stairs or wait for a less packed elevator- makes me angry when a big group shoves in at the next deck!!
You are so right…. We just got off the Symphony and people were not washing hands at windjammer nor using hand sanitizer. Same for mdr…. We felt like the only ones using sanitizer at the entrances.
Sanitizer doesn’t work on norovirus because it has an oil shield that repels sanitizer. Only soap will break-thru the shield & kill the virus
.
The video says it all wash your hands.
I am susceptible to norovirus. I am someone who always washes my hands, including at the buffet hand washing station. I also use Purel. I was one of the people who got the Norovirus on the May 2023 cruise on the Celebrity Summit. It made the news because more than 3% came down with it during this cruise. I got it at 4:00 am on the morning of disembarkation - not fun! My husband did not get it. The threat of getting the norovirus always weighs on my mind when cruising. Have taken 2 cruises since then and did not get the norovirus, but it’s always in the back of my mind.
TIP : norovirus has an oil shield that repels sanitizer. Only soap will break-thru the shield & kill the virus
It's just so disappointing to watch people passing by the wash stations on the way to the buffet. That just grosses us out. Even if you wash your hands going in, these people are "touching" everything in the buffet area.
Other areas also to consider, elevator buttons, stair railings, etc. And don't forget those who don't wash their hands in public washrooms!
All you can do is make sure you are taking care of your own personal hygiene the best you can.
Totally agree. Good idea to be aware of avoiding those ''Touch Points''. Unfortunately there will always be those Poppy types (Seinfeld-The Pie episode) who walk out of the toilet stall, still on their cellphones and rather stop to wash their hands, they exit the washroom, touching door knobs, elevator buttons, stair railings, back of chairs, greeting others (handshakes)....and eventually touching every buffet serving spoons.🤢
As you mentioned, it's up to us to do the best we can.
I always wash it is not just for me but for the protection of others
It is an easy step.
I was on the Royal Princess in June and they were enforcing hand washing in the buffet very strictly. They wouldn't even let you just cut through without washing your hands.
@@ekimnosettam that’s one of many reasons why I love Princess
Hand washing should be mandatory when entering any food area main dining and buffet.
I am one of the few people washing my hands before eating. After I get my food I use hand sanitizer before I touch my food.
Exactly we always wash hands going to the buffet then use one hand for the tongs then make sure you use hand sanitizer before eating. Who knows who handled the tongs before you.
Unfortunately norovirus has an oil shield that repels sanitizer. Only soap will break-thru the shield & kill the virus
Where are the washy washy staff on Princess? On my post covid Celebrity cruises they are present at the entrance to the buffet, hand sanitizer station, staff with hand sanitizer dispensers and hand washing sinks. I still take a small bottle of sanitizer and use it after I pull my chair in at the table.
I feel like there more crew at the entrance to the buffet & dining room with hand sanitizer telling people to wash their hands prior to the pandemic than there are now.
I've been saying this for a while now. My wife got sick on our last cruise. I didn't anyone stopping to wash their hands. It needs to be enforced when entering, NOT USE THE HONOR SYSTEM. It's not working.
The last cruise i was on you could only be served by the staff. I hope this didnt change😮
Washy washy!!
I have been an avid hand washer since my first was a 4lb preemie 25 years ago. I am outraged when I see people not washing their hands. The problem is when I come out of the men's near the buffet, through a door _that I did not touch,_ I don't want to wash them again and I don't want any grief for not making a show of washing my hands a second time.
The crew doesn’t give anyone grief if you enter the buffet w/o washing
@@electrictroy2010 Don isn't crew.
We wash our hands on the way in to the buffet. We get our food and then while my wife goes and washes her hands again while I stay at our seat. Once she returns I go wash my hands again. Then we eat our meal.
Tip #29. To avoid spreading norovirus, don’t touch the same tongs that everyone else touches to get a bread roll. Just pick up a bread roll yourself.
We always wash our hands a thousand times a day, even at home.
People forget to follow Mama's advice to always wash your hands before eating and after going to the bathroom.
Mama don’t teach that anymore. Societal manners are breaking down
Washing hands is always a good way because there are many other germs out there
Does the crew still sing the handwashing songs on your cruises?
It drives me nuts when people don’t wash their hands. I always did and still do. Even before the pandemic. Especially after using the restroom, no matter where I am, I cannot even begin to guess at how many men I see leave the restroom without washing their hands. It’s guaranteed. 😳😒
People need to washy washy lotsy lotsy. ⚓️
Its a simple practice. Stop and wash your hands. Before and after you eat. They even have hand sanitizer right there.
Unfortunately as long as there are inebriated passengers, there will be at least some lapses of hand washing.
Even sober people don’t wash. I see it at work all the time
It seems like every cruise we go on, there are always those people who refuse to wash their hands on the way in to the buffet, and continue to touch food. THAT is where illness comes from. These idiots need to be called out, or, it will continue to happen.
Wash Wash Wash
Wash and wash. It is simple like that 😂
don't understand why people don't always wash their hands!
I won’t go to a buffet if staff doesn’t serve the food. Disgusting to have all those people who don’t wash their hands touching the serving utensils.
Not sure why people have a hard time washing their hands. I was in the restroom and saw two women use the facility and walk out without washing their hands. Very sad and really do not understand. It is one thing if you want to act like this in your own home but please remember you are in public and as such exposing everyone to what is caused by your bad habits.
Wassup
Washing your hands has no side effects, easy way to protect yourself!
Such a simple and effective thing to do, wash your hands.
How soon we forget, people just get slack, even covid is back, it hasn't gone anywhere. I'm just getting over it and know several people people who have caught it. Everyone, please wash your hands, and I recommend you wear a mask in a large crowd of people. Take care of yourself and others.
Covid will always be here, just as influenza never left after the 1918 pandemic
Hi Don can people just wash their hands. My husband still wears his mask.
I just don't get it. It's so easy to washy washy. Nobody wants to be confined if you do get sick.
Washing hands is so basic. People need to do this or risk being sick.
Wait. After I poop, I'm supposed to wash my hands before the buffet? Lol
No you’re supposed to get your poop-stained hands into your food, so you can eat that delicacy.
It really shouldn't have anything to do with just norovirus. Just plain common sense and courtesy! Why do I want to eat someone's boogers or ear juice or sweaty armpits! Too many people are disgusting!
Washy washy! I try to not touch anything! Take 1000 mg of Vit C daily! People are just gross!! I like to use a napkin to touch anything in buffet. Then hand sanitizer or wash again before eating. People definitely need to be more cognizant. I typically washed my hands prior to walking in.
Some people are just nasty
Really, it is best to at least wash your hands.
Wash your hands especially after you use the bath room. Turning on the water and barely getting them wet is not washing your hands . I have seen many women that do this in the restroom. No soup and barely wetting your hands. You know who you are ladies and you know that you are guilty of it. Because of you people could get sick. I know your mother taught you better. It's just plain nasty. Wash your hands several times a day. If I have to make a trip back to my cabin. I was my hands. While I'm there. Just because. I Wash my many times a day. Because I know that many people don't, and I don't want to get sick.
PROPER HYGIENE ALL AROUND from All who are aboard the ship, will be a great way to help stop it!! I've been on some cruises to where folks smelled like the wet underside of a trash can lid!! Standing & coughing next to folks in the buffet line or sitting next to people in a dining area.
No sense at all that someone cannot properly bath & PUT ON DEODORANT !!!!
The ship provides free soap in the restrooms & your state room. PLEASE USE IT !!!
It's not rocket science wash your hands
Easy. Wash your hands.
May on majestic princess I saw maybe 5% of people wash hands or use sanitizer in buffet or mdr. Or coming out of washroom. Yech!!!! Gross
Please wash your hands
People are gross.
Clean hands! Dont let your kids with snotty noses serve them selves at the buffet. Why is it so hard to take a few minutes to wash??? 🧼. Thanks Don have a great day.
