My jaw dropped when you took the dust jacket off!
These spine changes are slightly frustrating. I do prefer the newer design, it’s just tough for those of us that already have Vol 1 and 2 with the old design. I’ve learned to let it go since I buy my books to read first and foremost.
I've let it go, but then when book arrives that I want, like Wolverine V3 or UXM V5... I know all my harsh feelings are going to come rushing back lol.

Totally agree... if I didnt know any better I would say it's a sinister move to try and get you to buy the book again... I'm just guna live with having the original two spines and a different spine for volume 3 personally.
@@nathanboult4873 I honestly think that’s what it is. I won’t call it sinister but it’s a business, and it is almost certainly on purpose to take advantage of the habits of collectors. I think a nice solution would be to have the old design on the DM covers.

Hey Omar. Thanks for the overview and for the amazing job as usual. I do have to say that this business practice that Marvel is adopting, changing spines of pre-established collections is absolutely sickening and it pushes me away from collecting, one book at a time. Wolverine Omnibus Vol.3 is my Wolverine and what I grew up with, therefore it's pre-ordered. Beyond that, the road is unclear. First Spider-man, now Wolverine and next up surely X-Men Vol. 5 will once again disrespect older collectors. Not cool. We should at least be given the option to keep our collections consistent. Sorry for the rant! You are the best at what you do, and what you do is very nice! Peace. =)

Weird that they reprinted this so soon considering that the first one is still pretty easily found most places. I don't see much real point other then to piss off people that are sticklers for their spine art. Wolverine by Mark Millar is the one that should have gotten the reprint love.

Honestly, I can't bring myself to get too distressed by the spine changes. Ultimately, my OCD isn't that bad. I have the first printing with that excellent Byrne cover, and I'm happy with it
I always get that deflated feeling when I hear the word ‘Imak’ but it’s a nice change to hear about the paper stock. Hope that might continue with future omnis. Thanks Omar!

FYI-Wolverine volume 2 omnibus, I believe it’s from the previous printing so the spine won’t look like the one in this video, is $50 @ in stock trades as of 11/10/22. There’s two covers available, BWS cover is on spring sale & JB cover is under summer sale.
I love it but I will stick to my original copy. Marvel is the move with these awesome spine but my honest opinion they need to get on a freaking ball with the classic reprints like wth!!!. It's agonizing to wait. But I can't wait to see volume 3 next year.💯💯💯
Excellent comparison Omar thank you brother, this spine changes really hurting my OCD when I look at the shelves. On the 1st one's spine vol is not written down there, just number 1 is written, however in the second one vol 2 is written and now they change the wolverine font 😂. Marvel have no respect for us OCD people . By the way I like the new wolverine font on the spine, it's just that it won't match with the others but what can you do lol, first and second does not even match anyways haha.
I think I prefer the older cover design, to be honest, over that wrap-around art.
I got a "nick and dent" copy of this from cheapgraphicnovels for 50 bucks a couple months ago, which then encouraged me to buy vol 1 and pre-order vol 3, lol. I guess I'll know the Amazing Spider-Man omnibus collectors' pain now with the updated spines, lol. Actually, still kinda bothers me that my vol 1 reprint doesn't say "Vol" on the spine like the first printing does.
Mine says it was printed at Donnelley, but also says it's a "first printing" in the liner notes. Weird.

It kinda sucks, but I’m just glad to finally have the entire Silvestri run and most of Sam Kieth MCP in oversized.
The new edition is a *vast* improvement! Original is still good, but thr new one? Great!
Also, the logo change on the spine is 'chef's kiss' - this what they should do with the 60s stuff rather than bizarrely make the text smaller... !

So it sounds like the reprint is a strict upgrade over the older editions :/ thicker paper, curved spine, Wolverine logo on spine. Dam you Marvel! Take my money! lol
After which Uncanny X-Men issue should I start digging into this omnibus?
Marvel is kind of a monkeys paw - print most everything you can ask for, BUT skip some issues, double dip or change spines in a series or entire line.
I got this Vol 2 cheap on ebay...got luckg but havent even had time to read it. Ive been all the place with reading Spiderman omnis
I’m a little confused - does the second printing have the Havok & Wolverine Meltdown issues, or are those only in the new printing? I’m wondering which to buy if there’s a more affordable copy of the 2nd print out there.
It’s in the original printing too. No difference in mapping.

The spines should have been the font they are on the individual books this whole time. It’s annoying that they’re changing them on $125 books when they know it’s collectors who get them. They should know collectors are particular about things

I’m excited to read volume 3 because it’s got your favorite Wolverine issue. And I really liked Volume 1, but I hated this book. It’s probably my least favorite omnibus I’ve read this year of the 40 or so I’ve read.
Has the Imak printer quality improved or is it the same?
Quality varies for every single book, there is no consistency. It is like rolling the dices every time a new book comes from there
I try to point out everything in the books. So it’s really case by case. There are some books that have thin paper and some thick.

@@Rickeyjames10 Considering that it was initially due out in August, if my memory doesn't fail, I fucking hope they don't delay it again. Although having Omar say that makes me think he hasn't received a copy yet and considering we're about a week away, that makes me worry 😔

If Vol 3 uses only this new spine unless they reprint Vol 1 with the a new spine there will be no way to have all 3 match, correct?
Correct. And volume 3 does use the new spine. We shared pics of it on social media.

Omar is it possible that you meant Wolverine Omnibus vol 1 reprint had a flat spine in covid time just like black Widow Omnibus which was also printed in malaysia printer? Because I went back and double checked and looks like Wolverine Omnibus vol 2 was printed only in donnely in china. I am confident that The Wolverine Omnibus vol 1 reprint was both printed in malaysia first then imak Turkey afterwards. I got the curved spine for vol 1 reprint. Also I know because I told my friend to order Wolverine vol 1 reprint when I saw the restock/reprint which coincided with the Wolverine Omnibus vol 2 release date back then. (Exactly 1 year ago).Also Wolverine Omnibus vol 2 first print looks like it has a flat spine but actually it’s not flat when you closely look at it. Everyone who has the Wolverine Omnibus vol 2 first print have exactly the same spine(looks like flat but it’s actually curved) . I might be wrong also but I just wanted to let you know brother 😊 by the way, probably the reason you got confused is because Wolverine vol 1 reprint/restock and Wolverine Omnibus vol 2 came at the same time. If I am right
So Wolverine vol 1 had like 3 reprints I think that is why the confusion maybe, 1 of them was a stealth reprint.

Way better than the micro-fonts but still a change which tries to push old time collectors into buying again. Not cool, not fair. Why can't they release a variant with classic dress for Vol. 3?
What's funny is that eventually they'll reprint and change again the Omnis with micro-fonts to this new "original logo" design (already seen on Byrne's FF as well). And all of the people that worshipped Marvel for being so creative and awesome will finally feel what it means having mismatched shelves. 🤣
I got over the matching spines years ago. Manga will wreck your shelf with mismatching spines for the same series.
@@NearMintCondition US manga Editions, you mean? I'm not familiar with that market, only Dark Horse HCs which seem super consistent in style. Original Japanese tankoubon keep strict matching dress through the decades. But then again, how much does a US manga cost? Marvel Omnibus are 100-125 US$ on average. IMO it gives buyers the right to be way more demanding.
That said, I stopped buying all Classic Omnis with micro-fonts last year, so problem solved on my side. 😅
I'm sure they will drop the micro-fonts eventually (2024 reprints? 2025?), I'll wait for that happen and see if the next trade dress fits better with my original issues. Replicating title's logo like they did with Invaders (Bronze Age, supposedly a guaranteed micro-font) and Wolverine is definitely more pleasant to look at.
@@andreamateria3106 Oh DH was one of the worst. With Creepy and Eerie HCs. They couldn't make up their mind where they wanted the DH logo. The Oh My Goddess sets have three different designs, this is how they got my dumb butt to buy them again once they reprinted them in small format. I'm not talking about price, I'm just saying manga collectors have been through that hell for decades, eventually I got over it and just focused on the collections.
Damn a complete over haul every change on this book is an upgrade in my opinion sucks I already have this book ... I almost want to sell my old copy & buy this new printing
