Well, it is
as somene who read the books I think this looks like a really watered down version of the movies, Denis Vilnueve carried and this trailer didnt have any of the vibes the movies had nor did it feel like dune, not to mention this movie is based on the Brian Herbert books (Frank Herberts son) which are famously mid to bad books
The books are mid but some of his ideas are not. I think hardcore Dune fans can't stomach them but as a new reader & enjoyer of the verse, don't think his takes are that bad
I think it’s also to have in mind that mostly the story Denis adapted are on arrakis, giving the movies a different feeling. But this show explores more than just arrakis, it’s basically gives more of the world of Dune than Arrakis, so of course expect a different feeling.
@@sammalla5238 The first two books are some of the best works of sci-fi/fantasy and the rest are decent. Someone calling the entire book series mid is the first I've heard of it.

question for x fans: is his dune enjoyment on an action movie level or did he engage with the very overt stuff about epically long systems of blah blah blah? not asking as a bit, just curious coz he seems to like these films, but this premise is exactly the same narrative focus as the films. cheers 😊

he likes good movies the movie universe/lore around the movie doesnt matter to him he said the same about batman shortly after this clip he likes batman and joker movies but couldnt care less about the universe/world of batman

This series will not hold a candle to denis work, im calling it now. This looks like mid tier trash. good sets, costumes, etc. but weak cinematography and writing.
No, it's good cinematography with plastic and cardboard sets. Some of those shots were quite good (like the section at 0:27 turning from hand to water to sand).

he's not wrong. the first dune book is by far the best one in the series and that's not saying much. the story is a convoluted mess that's about as appealing as consuming sawdust. people hyped the shit out of dune and after watching the movies (which I liked) I went and read some of the later books. holy fuck was that a waste of time. shit read like a bad fanfic. even the first two movies based on the first book looked better than they were because of the great directing, cinematography, acting, etc. not because the story was anything special.
