Victoria Nuland said in an interview that “The United States (US) never chooses any candidate in any country”. If that were so, what then is the purpose of the Central Intelligence Agency? Victoria talked about the importance of having choices in a democracy. Although one could say that US citizens could choose between the Democrats or the Republicans, but where is the evidence that the citizens ever benefit from their government? The evidence is that 8 of the 10 richest men in the world are US citizens, while the US only has 4.2% of the world’s population. And to kick US “democracy” in the teeth, 38 million Americans today live in poverty! Paradoxically, the People’s Republic of China, with only one political party, has eradicated poverty at home, while having 4 times the population of the US. And also paradoxically, 95% of Chinese are satisfied with their so-called autocratic government, while only 40% of US citizens living in the beacon of democracy are satisfied with theirs.
Victoria said that President Putin wants to discredit the US. I say that Putin has no need to do that, since the US has done an excellent job of doing that on her own. The US is willing to destroy the people of Ukraine and Taiwan to keep making US oligarchs even richer! The world can’t believe the US’ desire to have a nuclear war with Russia and China in order to try to remain hegemon. The US is the one that is autocratic, by refusing that the world have a balance of power. US believes that she has a right to blind obedience from every country.

@@cmkar1013 Yes, it was, but it's not longer what it was, NATO changed quite a bit since then. It does cyber and law enforcement (anti drugs, human smuggling, piracy), logistics and anti-terrorism, and it greatly complements the E.U. since our Union doesn't have an army. NATO does on a military level what the E.U. does w/ schools and the workplace, it makes our troops mingle and integrate and it provides common standards to our armies, takes care of training them, and ensures quality control standards for everything, all things that every country would otherwise have to do on its own.
Thanks to NATO not having participated in the Iraq War, which is widely seen as the most controversial Western intervention in and around the Middle East, our Alliance has a great image as well. Outsiders decry some of its interventions, but people in Europe remember well how they came about, and how Libya, Syria, Kosovo and Bosnia were all causes that WE asked NATO desperately to assist with in a similar fashion as we do now. Since the only other major NATO mission has been Afghanistan and that was seen as rightful too after 9/11, NATO is seen very positively.
Here's what Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania jointly stated in explaining their desire to join NATO: "The declaration to join NATO symbolized efforts and wish of the Baltic states to become part of the European family. NATO was perceived not merely as a military alliance with security guarantees under Article 5, but as a symbol of the civilized world, where the Baltic states should find their proper place."

The old government of Ukraine didn't collapse until Feb 22, 2014.
The result of this coup is that Ukraine IMMEDIATELY went into civil war, between East and West. US funded their puppet government, Russia supported the Eastern side of Ukraine. That's when the war began.

But if you're an American, Nuland should be your hero. Putin is a terrorist with nuclear weapons who has barked like a rabid dog for YEARS about being at war with the United States. He has irresponsibly thrown around warlike rhetoric and now he is being punished for it. The Russian people are being punished for it. So, it's a secret "code" that _only you, the speaker, _*_and potentially Russia_* are privy to huh? Saying that "a better relationship with Russia" is *"code for"* something more than what is stated simply as "A better relationship", is you, not only reading something more into the statement than what is there, but means you claim to _know the mind, or thoughts of the person speaking._ Do you know the thoughts of the speaker better than we do? That's what you're saying!
It also means you claim to: *_"Know the Code being used"._* I mean, you're claiming to have knowledge of a "Code" that only you, the speaker (and potentially the Russians) have. Do you know the "Code" for the rest of this talk that we're missing out on? If not, why not? And If not, how else would *you* know what the "Code" is?
I don't think you know what you're talking about. I think you're so wrapped up in what you *want* to be true, that you'll claim to know the meaning of a secret "code". I think that sounds _crazy._ And, I think when someone who interprets publicly that what is being said, that _"that is code for" something,_ that they're seeing evidence where none exists and are utilizing a number of logical Fallacies (i.e. Post-Hoc, Slippery slope, Begging The Question, etc.).
There is no "code" in that phrase or any other part of her answers. Not unless you can prove to us that there is beyond making a blanket statement. Please, please show any evidence for your claim, or show how you know the mind of the speaker, or show how you have the inside scoop on what the "code" is being used, or retract your statement. I'm so sick of the crappy tactics used by people who have no critical thinking skills and just make claims they can't back up.

At the end of the day, the decision is to be taken by NATO and Ukraine. It is a matter for those two partners." Here's what the Georgia Public Opinion Barometer reported in 2006: "The desire for NATO and EU membership is high and stable, showing a slight increase over time. 62.8% favors NATO membership (62.0% in 2002 and in and 56.4% in 2003), 16.6% are against it and 20.6% has no opinion."
In 2006 the Georgian parliament voted unanimously for a bill which calls for the integration of Georgia into NATO and a referendum was held in Georgia on January 5th 2008 alongside presidential elections, the second question was about joining NATO. It passed with 77% of votes.
Ukraine is a bit different. While the NATO-Ukraine council was established on July 9th 1997 Ukraine unlike Georgia had deeper ties to Russia and no reason for concern given that Budapest Memorandum guaranteed its security. So Ukraine felt much less of a need for joining NATO, until Russia occupied and annexed 1/3rd of Georgia in 2008.
Even after that only 35% of Ukraine's population wanted to join NATO. What brought them to NATO is Russia's 2014 invasion of Crimea and the Donbas which marked the beginning of the Russo-Ukrainian war that is still raging today. Prior to the invasion only 35% of Ukrainians wanted NATO, afterwards it was 65%. And shortly before Russia launched its latest invasion it was still 63%.
