Then those dress up soldiers return to barracks to clean and polish their kit for the next time they are on duty. Granted no need for tourists etc to get up and personal, they can still get their pictures.

As a veteran of the US Marines, I'm in sympathy with the Guards. They're military professionals performing an exacting duty; they're NOT actors, scenery, or props. I can understand how people want to take pictures of the Guards, or have their pictures taken WITH the Guards. Obviously, the British Army and Government are well aware that the kind of pageantry and imagery they present are impressive and fascinating, and have made it possible, within reason, for people to record what might be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for them. But those people need to understand where the boundaries are and respect them. In addition to simple courtesy and good manners that everyone should practice in all situations, there are SIGNS! Well done, gentlemen.
It must be some historical/cultural thing, the Brits allowing people to get THAT close to ceremonial guards in a chaotic street situation. That would NEVER be allowed to happen here in the US. At our Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the idiot masses are kept well back of the marchers. But to each their own. I love watching these well-dressed British guards doing their thing. They are a sight to behold.

Yelling serves 2 purposes. 1) gets the person out of their way. 2) let’s everyone around know to stay out of the way. It’s not rude, it’s not even personal. The tourists are allowed to get way too close to the horses and guards. There is no need at all for them to be that close. There are several videos of people harassing the guards in the hopes of causing trouble. One woman seems to do it daily and should have been arrested a long time ago.

Was in London today and watched all the tourists getting soaked during the thunderstorms. Was laughing my head off.
