It's 10.30pm Tuesday night 12/03/2024 and I've just flicked the T.V. over to Ch 9 in Sydney. They were showing The Raspberries "Go all the Way" I thought "Why are they playing that?" "Is Eric touring soon?" Then I thought "Oh no he hasn't died" "Has he?" My fears were confirmed by the news voice over person. "Eric Carmen was 74" Now I can't stop crying. Not only did Eric help create one of the greatest, mind blowing Guitar riffs in Rock history, he then composed some of the most tasteful Ballads of all time. Good quality Ballads are extremely hard to write. Thanks for the great music and the brilliant singing voice Eric. Eric lived a successful existence and died peacefully in his sleep. "Come on Baby!!!" RIP - Eric Carmen
Not enough kids (especially in the US) nowadays listen to quality music; they prefer the dribble and crap of today. Even today, since I discovered the superb vocalists overseas, I can never listen to US music the same way.
In 1976 my family drove from southern Ontario to Florida for a vacation. This was one of the songs we heard repeatedly on Top 40 radio stations along the way. Yes, 1970s music is hard to beat!
This is my favorite Eric Carmen song ❤️ I hate when people call this a Celine Dion song. No hate to Celine but you have to give credit where credit is due.
2:51 "he really seems lonely" ....exactly! That's the beauty and genius of his song and his performance of it. Something the cover versions completely seem to ignore, no doubt Celine has a crazy voice but her rendition of this song is such a drop from the original IMO.
He is the original...been my favorite song for 45 years! There have been a lot of covers of this song but his version is the most painful (passionate) and has that piano solo. Thanks for playing this 💞
Eric Carmen was a Beatles fan. The Beatles still the world's greatest band even after 50 years after their breakup. No autotune and they wrote and played all their instruments. The slide crying guitar sounds like George Harrison type guitar solo.
Eric was playing in the Cleveland area at the same time my band was. We were competitors. He was very good. I'm not sure if I ever met him but all of the local bands were constantly meeting up and sometimes jamming with each other. I love this song.
The very first song on this album "Sunrise" is a GREAT song. The whole album is a treasure. This man never got the recognition he deserved as a song writer. He was unique and very talented. He had a hit years later called "Hungry Eyes" but this was his debut solo album and the whole album is wonderful. I just don't understand why he didn't have a bigger career than he did. He is a very good artist.
Carmen was lead singer for the Raspberries from '70 thru '74. This solo album was released in late 1975. Song reached number 2 for three straight weeks in Jan 1976. The first of a string of Top 40 hits.
Eric was on the turntable in my bedroom for a long time when I was growing up. Turns out he is a great guy, too. He followed me on Twitter (along with many others). "Never Gonna Fall in Love Again," is one I love very much. I will be back to check out some of the other music you have. Thanks for noticing him. (Spoiler alert: he's had a beautiful marriage and life.) 🥰❤
Wow! I've known this song all of my life and since it came out on the radio (1975) but I've NEVER heard this long version with the extended piano étūde! So cool that we got to react to it together!
Eric Carmen was the lead singer of the group "The Raspberries". I think he also did the soundtrack to the movie "Dirty Dancin'". The song was 'Hungry Eyes'.
Listen to the original melody in the 2d movement of Rachmaninoff's 2d Piano Concerto. Eric did a great job capturing the incredible sense of melancholy that was in the concerto.
Can remember when the Celine Dion version came out in 1996/1997 & being amazed that anybody would even try covering this perfection from my childhood-she stripped it of pretty much all emotion, as has every other cover I have heard of it.
Hi And yet, Celine somehow managed to turn in the definitive version. As evidenced by the numerous covers based on that version. Often imitated, never duplicated.
@@capt.blueberry9719 damn it you beat me to it. Side note I think Eric Carmen didn't know the rules to global music rights and this song slipped through and had to pay for royalties.
When they played this on the radio, they always cut out the piano piece in the middle (for time) This is the song you listened to after your boyfriend dumped you in high school :(
Eric Carmen wrote lyrics to a Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto #2. He took the music and added the words. Another famous piece is "Never fall in love again' is also a famous Rachmaninoff piece.
I used to sing this to my son. Now he sings it to his little girls. He told us that one day the three year old was singing it to herself when she was put down for a nap!
Yes! I've still got the LP! But got it on CD so I could play in the car on drives! I played this LP over and over until my parents bought me a different one just to they wouldn't have to hear it anymore! LOL!
Raymond C Nilsson didn’t write ‘Without You’, it was written and first performed by Pete Ham and Tom Evans of Badfinger. Nilsson made the best version, IMO.
Eric Carmen...Great singer and songwriter. He wrote All By Myself using music based on a classical piece. Huge hit reaching #2 in the US and # 1 in Canada. Check out his album Boats against the current. Brilliant. Also any of his music with The Raspberries. Excellent. Love you inda!❤❤
This was the original; I believe co written with Eric Carmen. Great songwriter, and singer; he even wrote under the radar for other artists. "Almost Paradise" was his from "Footloose" [1984] and "Hungry Eyes" from the "Dirty Dancing" soundtrack [1987]
Funny how they never got the national acclaim they deserved....same with the James Gang. Used to listen to them both at JB's in Kent in the early 70's.😂
t-m. d. r. I used to see them out at the old Hullabaloo in Chesterland, OH. I’ll never forget how Eric always walked through between sets with a hairbrush and a can of hairspray in his back pants pockets. Also very snobby and stuck up! But yeah, his voice was golden, so we loved him anyway!😘
I remember this devastating song. I was just a kid. But here is my take on this... he was happy just doing his own thing and using people, using girls. But when he got older everyone had went on without him and nobody cared. He was harvesting the devastating loneliness caused by his keeping people outside of his heart. But now he realizes how much they meant to him and it’s too late.

The missing element in modern music?Real musicians playing real music.
On real instruments.
No shit!
Yup.
Computer music is too easy...no soul.
Not to mention writing their own music.

Along with several other good songs like "I Wanna Be With You," "Let's Pretend," and "Hit Record: Overnight Sensation" just to name a few.

Celine Dion did a remake. Eric Carmen did the original.
No. The theme is a piece of Sergei Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 2, 2nd movement. Composed around 1900.
