The thing about this song is that it just keeps getting better and better after the first listen. Definitely grows on you.
The musical references here are pretty extensive, Jennie starts out with a reference to Biggie's famous line "kick in the door, wavin the 44"(Jennie says Coco). Next Lisa references Rhianna's "Pon de Replay" with "One by one then two by two" and also 50 Cent's P.I.M.P. with "you couldn't get a dollar outta me". Rosé and Jisoo both reference Taylor Swift with "look what you made us do". Finally, the Jennie/Lisa rap verse is backed by a sample of Ice Cube/Easy-E's part of "Gangster Gangster" by N.W.A. They(Teddy and the girls) definitely weren't shy about shouting out their inspirations/favorite artists in this song.

Yes bro. Same thoughts. I knew Blackpink ever since they debut but I didn't consider myself a fan ( a blink). But ever since they broke their hiatus for like 2 years with this song, I got so hooked up with their music and it slowly get into me. Overall, I love the vocals, the rap, the visuals and everything ❤️

The rapper “lisa” the second rapper from the intro can speak 5 languages. Fluently in 3 languages: english, thai and korean. Advanced in japanese and basic in chinese. Majority of the other members can speak 3 languages. In this day and age you don’t need to live in america or born there to be able speak english fluently even if your asian or any minorities group

I am a progressive rock fan that almost always dislikes pop music, until I listened to the Blackpink chorus of their most famous song, Ddu-du Ddu-du totally by chance (I think in an Instagram reel) and interested me. I listened to more and more songs and quickly became obsessed with their sound, literally every song by them is good and now they are one of the very few artists that are currently active and that I love. It's pop but the mix of genres they do of pop, hip-hop, edm, eastern vibes I really enjoy, even though I am not a lover of those sounds individually. And they are also rock in their live versions at the concerts. Also I love how kpop offers a whole package, a total show, with choreography and visuals, it's just so much entertaining compared to western pop, which is so generic and repetitive, musically and visually. Plus, when you get to know the girls, it's impossible not to fall in love with them, they are stunning beauties with crazy stage presence while at the same time being the most sweet and down to the ground girls possible, they are incredible relatable as human beings and when you get to know them as 4 girls that followed their dreams at a very young age, survived in a harsh 4-5 years of training, competitive and cold environment, supporting each other as sisters, for then to get instantly at the top of the world (they literally killed the competition as soon as they debuted with the first two songs, and they have been the most successful girl group since) it becomes impossible not to love them
