    I love the cat, please keep him in the videos. He is very sweet. I have usually done most of this at leather hard stage but I will try the cylinder wrap around technique. Thanks for the many tips.

    And like the volume in this video went down and down...
    Interesting and masterful way of making a textured coffee mug.
    How many more mugs do we still need? :)

    😉 Found it! I rolled out my clay yesterday and I'm rewatching your video for tips! Hand building tall mugs is not easy for me.

    Just started to dabble in hand building this month. Was quite pleased with the three that I did even though one has a beautiful vertical crack.
    Will definitely try the cling wrap when applying my stamps.
    Will also use the plastic on the inside of the cylinder instead of newspaper.
    So many points I will have to start using my ipad out in the studio to remember them all... Rolling a coil........Ah Bisto! moment.
    Thanks for sharing!

    Hi! Thanks so much for the video, it’s super helpful for a beginner like me! Is 6mm (just under 1/4 of an inch which is 6.4 mm) too thin? I am planning on using a hand cut linoleum stamp to push into the clay. Thanks!

    • @Vsmithpots
      @Vsmithpots  Před 3 lety +1

      If you are gentle with the clay you can go even thinner. The thinner the clay slab the harder it is to handle. Try one slightly thicker first.

    I love this method. I am a beginner potter, and am overwhelmed by the myriad of methods. But this one makes sense, and looks like something I could do. Could you use pvc pipe instead of carboard tube?

    • @Vsmithpots
      @Vsmithpots  Před 3 lety +2

      Yes any pipe will do as long as you cover it so the pipe pulls out and leaves the paper or plastic inside the clay cylinder. Thanks for watching.

    Can you please say how you prevent the handle drying quicker than the cup. Thank you

    • @Vsmithpots
      @Vsmithpots  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I often wrap handles in saran wrap if I am worried they will dry too quickly, but I use a damp cupboard which slows drying a lot.

    I've purified natural clay, but it's not good for the materials that are added to the mud when you knead it to be obedient? Please help me how to prepare clay to make traditional pottery, I do not have the money to buy ready clay,

    • @Vsmithpots
      @Vsmithpots  Před 2 lety

      You need to add what is known as Ball Clay to your found clay. It makes rough clays more plastic. You can try adding vinegar to found clay, that sometimes helps.

    • @Vsmithpots
      @Vsmithpots  Před 3 lety +6

      She would be very sad to get rejected. She sleeps next to me literally all day, every day. A previous studio cat had to sleep in any bowl I put on the table. I have photos. She was promoted to house cat and now sleeps on the bed, absolutely adorable. You are right, very distracting. I probably could have made lots more pots if I had not spent half the days paying attention to them. Still I will probably live longer with less stress from petting them.

      I love you having a cat in your studio. She’s awesome! We have three miniatures schnauzers and one of them stays with me in my little studio, she just loves to lay in a chair and watch and just her being there makes me happy. You’re right less stress with a pet around. Great video! 👍🏼
