  • In today’s tutorial I will walk you through this challenging tile install that I did at my house. I wanted to make sure that the reveal around the window was even all the way around and that my miters worked out perfectly. I will show you how to start and finish your tile job.
    This is definitely higher difficulty of an install, so if you are a DIYer, proceed with caution!
    If you are a pro, this is how you can charge more for the work that you do. If you can elevate your skill level, and quality of install, you can start closing higher end jobs!
    all of the tool and materials, you can find at

    Really nice job! If I could criticize one thing it would be spraying the caulking with soapy water before tooling it, it won't stick where the soapy water rests in top of the bead so you create a little area for water to sit/hide and develop mold. This method looks great but could cause problems in the future.

    I noticed you put the mortar right on the unfinished drywall. With all that weight on the paper should it be primed? or does the mortar act as a substitute primer integrating itself into the paper?
    Ive noticed it with this one contractor who subbed his tilework out to me, he would leave me unprimed/painted drywall to tile over, they would mud it but not prime it, which is really problematic with smaller tiles because it just reactivates the mud in the places where there it is thick, so it doesnt hold well and the tile will pop loose during grouting.
    He never learned and we would argue about it every time.

    Nice work. Question: Why no red guard?

    • @krisjackson4408
      @krisjackson4408 Před 7 dny

      definitely agree, but like he asked; no tile backer or atleast Some type of water resistance membrane over raw Sheetrock? Also have heard possible for the tile, especially larger heavy tiles like eventually pulling the paper off the sheetrock and all coming down with it. Seems like flawless finish tile work but no preparation for the substrate. Not criticizing but just curious of your opinion/ point of view?

    • @ericpalmer2831
      @ericpalmer2831 Před 7 dny

      @@krisjackson4408 Water seeps through the grout joints and gets the substrate wet. The drywall will never dry out and will get really squishy until it fails. Just matter of time. It works fine as long as there is a membrane between it and the tile. That's why products like Red Guard exist.
